Simply Heaven!

Review Submitted: September 21, 2010 Date of Stay: September 2010
We arrived in just before dusk and when we saw the house, the pictures definatley do NOT do it justice! It is simply gorgeous! As if the owners had planned it, a bald eagle flew above us. When we walked in, we definatley knew we made the right choice!! Jerry and Deb have thought of EVERYTHING! There is nothing this house needs that it doesn't have! Linens, tv, dvds, binoculars, first aid kit, ample kitchen utensils, dishes, pots pans, microwave, coffee pot cleaning stuff, laundry supplies.... right down to the lobster pot! It's clean, quiet and is, dare to say it again SIMPLY GORGEOUS! Settling in we had a glass of wine on the porch and looked up at the stars, so crystal clear! Lay on your back on the porch! In the morning watched the sunrise and walked the path to the cliffs. There is a rope on the right side then can guide you down where you can walk the rocks and to the left there is a little inlet where you can find the most gorgeous rocks, sea glass etc....we spent a lot of time down there, we saw whales pass through! If you travel to the end of the road and walk down the rocks there, you can find black volcanic sand. The sunrises are to die for! We visted the local sights, East Quoddy on Campabello Island, West Quoddy Lighthouse,Eastport was awesome to, and Lubec, where we met Jerry and Deb at Northern Tides, who are the sweetest people on the planet! Deb's hugs are with warmth and love! Love her! I bought the most gorgeous necklace at her shop, couldn't resist! The shops downtown Lubec are fun hometown warm and welcoming! The people are just as warm and friendly! We didn't get to do as much as we planned as the area had its own agenda for us! We did a lot of hiking and enjoying the beauty of the area! There is so much to see! Hint, for freshest Lobster at a great price, talk to the owner of Bayside Chocolates whos also a lobsterman! The people we met gave us a lot of history of the area and it is sooo intresting!Overall, we would rate this as the most relaxing wonderful vacation ever! ( I don't know what kind of beds Deb and Jerry have there, but, OMG! They are the most comfortable warm beds on the planet!) wanted to take them home, but wouldn't fit on the roof! HAHAHA- Jerry and Deb, thank you so much for sharing your wonderful home with us! I would definatley go back in a heartbeat and never wanted to leave! EVER! Thank you Jerry and Deb!

Gem in the woods

Review Submitted: October 27, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2011
This home is simply lovely and we had one of the best vacations of our life here. The house itself is spotless, comfortable and gorgeous. As NYC denizens we really appreciated the new, spacious kitchen with thoughtful appliances - nothing was missing. We also loved the living room with breathtaking views and the lovely window above the bed in the loft. We could see the stars at night and the sunrise in the morning. We didn't take advantage of the barbecue area in the side yard, but it looked nice.

While in Lubec, we hiked the long way around the Bold Coast Trail, which is not to be missed. We also hiked through the Campobello parkland, rode our bikes in farmland near Machias, saw the reversing falls nearby (stunning) and hiked through a smaller nature preserve a mere 10 minutes away - the name escapes me. There are hundreds and hundreds of spectacular and well-maintained hiking trails to keep you busy for weeks, many of which wind along the ocean and over mountain tops.

Don't miss this place - it's magical.

One note on the internet: the dial-up service was not sufficient to check my work email or gmail account and the house is in a dead zone for mi-fi. This ended up being a huge bonus for us - I really enjoyed the peace and quiet. But if you have a job where you absolutely need internet access in case of emergency, this is probably not the house for you. I am now a convert and will try to take every vacation in a wireless dead zone!

Absolutely amazing. Could not ask for more.

Review Submitted: October 24, 2011 Date of Stay: October 2011
My wife and I spent our honeymoon at this property and we could not have been more happy. The owners were an absolute pleasure to deal with. Meeting them was even better. They are some of the most wonderful people we could have ever hoped to meet. Then house was absolutely wonderful and had everything we needed for our time there. The view from the property was nothing short of amazing. I'm propbably one of the most critical people on the planet and I can hinestly say this was so far beyond what I expected that I cannot put it into words. Jerry and Deb are some of the most wonderful and genuine people I have been luck enough to meet. My wife and I spent our honeymoon here and we already are counting down the days until we can come back. We could not have scripted it any better. It was an absolutely an amazing trip. I cannot thank you guys enough!

Beautiful location

Review Submitted: August 13, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
This is a lovely rental, clean, charming, stocked with everything you need. But for me, the most amazing feature was the location and views. What a beautiful place to wake up! After a few days greeting the morning from the deck, looking out over the Atlantic, I never wanted to leave. At night, you can stargaze from the same spot, the moon's light reflecting off the water, the ocean as your soundtrack. It's a gorgeous, romantic setting.

Jerry and Debbie will help you with everything you need. They are warm and hospitable, and they take very particular care of their property. I hope I get to stay here again soon!

Skunking/Rain can't detract from Gracious Rental

Review Submitted: May 29, 2011 Date of Stay: May 2011
We recently stayed at this getaway cottage during a cold, raw, rainy Maine spring weekend after the cottage and owner had been sprayed by a skunk! And, I can't wait to go back! The natural surroundings are tranquil and the ocean view serene, which is echoed by the spacious, uncluttered feel of the interior. The amenities lack for nothing and provide much in the way of private and public shared space. Inside everywhere your eye lands shows meticulous attention to detail and hospitality. Flashlights abound. There's a garlic press in the kitchen. There are empty shelves and cupboards to put your own culch which you invariably must have. Hidden additions are birding books, DVD's for all ages, a fishing pole, charcoal. Our needs were provided for in every way. This doesn't even mention the delightful wooden spiral staircase and desk built into the eve in the loft. There weren't enough days to use all the spaces provided to welcome us.
Debbie and Jerry were wonderful hosts as well -- particularly attentive because of the skunking and subsequent airing out our accommodations needed. I would also strongly suggest visiting their downtown Lubec gift shop Northern Tides where you will find a non-existent "crap factor" to quote my non-shopping husband. We found lovely, inexpensive to fairly-priced pieces of local/regional art, jewelry and unique small gifts. We went back twice. Plus, they're just delightful people to chat with about the region and gave us great tips for biking and eating. We look forward to renting from them again.
The weather didn't allow us to see the stars at night, but we just think that means that we need to go back soon.
