About Suzy Ballesteros

Suzy Ballesteros

Suzy Ballesteros purchased this house in 2005

Why Suzy Ballesteros chose Napa

Since 2008, Suzy Ballesteros has owned and operated Magnolia House, the Napa vacation rental home situated closest to downtown Napa's dining and shopping district. Yet despite its convenient distance to town, the home is located on a quiet residential block, boasting lovely bed & breakfast mansions. The host's goal is to meet the needs of their traveling guests by keeping a well-stocked home with updated amenities that one would expect to find in one's own home, making the property, truly, a home-away-from-home!

Guestbook comments from the owner

This house was great for our college reunion with close friends. There was ample space with many activities at the house and around the neighborhood. Some of us hung out around the fire pit both in the morning and afternoon. Others went for walks and runs and the rest of us cooked and watched basketball. The kitchen was supplied with many of the basics (spices, olive oil, cream, sugar, coffee) so we didn't have to spend extra on those items. The hot tub was great for evening soaks and fun conversations. The owners were great. Easy to work with and very helpful. It was an easy walk to downtown if you prefer to eat out but the deck and private backyard of the house rivals any ambiance you will find downtown.

Super Location!

  • 4 of 5

We stayed in February 2015. House is very well appointed. Very clean. Great kitchen for cooking. Lovely backyard for relaxing. We enjoyed the front porch in the mornings over coffee. The living room area was comfortable for relaxing and reading. We had 2 couples and 2 singles; so the bedroom layout worked well for us. Very nice to have the laundry room with a 1/2 bathroom.

Would rent this house again!

**Only thing renters need to know up front: Attached to the house is a residence of some sort where the owners ex-husband and son reside (???). This info was listed in the agreement but we did not know they would come out into the yard when we were in the hot tub and engage us in conversation. Somewhat odd!

The yard is completely fenced and we did where clothes in the hot tub but no privacy.

Also, on Saturday, the homeowner came to the house to "work inside the garage". Made our guests feel uncomfortable, as though we were being watched. Again, odd!

We made the best of both situations because we really enjoyed the house, but if your are going for full privacy, this not the house for you.

Owner's Response: In 6 years of business, I've never had guests raise concern about privacy at Magnolia House, so I am sorry and surprised to hear that despite having enjoyed the house, this party did experience a lack of privacy. I state in the House Rules sent to inquiring guests AND in the Rental Contract that "The owner's employed 21-year-old son resides in an in-law unit on the property". My son is the sole occupant of the granny unit. Occasionally his father, John, a Fire Captain in Daly City, will visit Luke, and my understanding from John was that day he arrived to help Luke set up a printer, and was climbing the steps of the granny unit's deck/entrance located at the opposite end of the yard from the hot tub, when the guests made eye contact with him from that distance. That compelled John to say 'hello' from the stairs--NOT the 'yard'--and ask how they were enjoying their stay. One of the male guests enquired if he owned the house, and John identified the house as belonging to his ex-wife. According to John, that was the extent of the exchange. As for my own appearance at the house, I arrived at noon on a-the Guests' last full day to assemble plastic shelves in the garage to hold the rental's linens; the home's supplies are located in the garage. When I showed up, 2 of the guests were tending to a vehicle repair in the driveway, and that's when I introduced myself as the owner. They seemed very nice and I proceeded up the walk to enter the side door of the garage which is on the front porch where I also identified myself to 2 women, explaining I had work to do in the garage. They were pleasant and didn't express any concern with my presence, so I closed the garage door and proceeded to complete my task. From inside the garage, there is NO access door or window that enables anyone to see or hear guest activity in the house, thus there is no reason why one should have to fear being 'watched'. The house is booked 325 days/yr, and it is a business that requires maintenance, so there should be nothing 'odd' about an owner accessing a supply area if need be, during daylight hours. But it is 'odd' that this concern was not addressed at the time by the guests instead of after-the-fact in the form of a cautionary review, for I would have happily rescheduled my task for another day. NOTE: I have since, had a privacy lattice wall erected atop the granny unit's deck, to prevent the guest's yard and hot tub from being viewable from the granny unit stairs or deck.

WONDERFUL HOUSE - PERFECT LOCATION!

  • 5 of 5

There were 6 of us that stayed at Magnolia House last weekend and it was wonderful! Suzy was easy to deal with & very responsive in the rental process and the house was exactly as shown and had everything we needed & more. The location is really ideal - walking distance to many shops & restaurants. The beds were all really comfortable and Suzy provided so many little necessities that we hardly needed to shop for anything but food. We really enjoyed the backyard & fire pit at night and the hot tub was a bonus. This really beats staying at a hotel or resort and it costs a lot less.

Great House!!

  • 5 of 5

Magnolia House was just as expected. All amenities were just as described. The home was clean and we thoroughly enjoyed the backyard fire pit and bbq area. This is an excellent and cost-effective alternative to standard, boring hotel rooms. We were in Napa for a family wedding and Magnolia House offered accommodations for what would have required 3 hotel rooms. Thanks, Suzi, for a great experience.

Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from Napa and Half Moon Bay. Magnolia was perfect for our Stay in Napa. The house was well appointed and well stocked. Beds were very comfy with top of line linens. There were plenty of fluffy white towels for 7 adults for a 4 night stay. The hot tub was amazing and the yard was lovely. The pack n play for our toddler was in excellent condition and a stroller was provided. Suzy put me in touch with a local company for a high chair rental - the cost was reasonable and the high chair was awaiting us and was in excellent condition. The kitchen was amazing - just like coking at home. The location was perfect for sightseeing throughout Napa and Sonoma and walking into town was a breeze. If we ever return to Napa, we would definitely stay at Magnolia House. The owner was very helpful and responsive to all my questions.

Charming Napa Gateway

  • 5 of 5

I rarely write reviews unless I had an unusually good experience or a horrible story to tell, and I feel compelled to tell about the most wonderful experience at Magnolia House.

I had planned a "birthday" vacation for my two adult children...both have birthdays three days apart. It has been awhile since we had vacations together and I thought I would treat them to a California Wine Country vacation. It was truly awesome! We spent a week touring both Sonoma and Napa Valley, San Francisco, and even got some zip-lining in. In planning the vacation, I started looking at hotels and felt that something like home would be a change of pace. I couldn't have been happier with Suzy (Magnolia House) and HomeAway. One I found the place I wanted, Suzy was very prompt with arrangements and confirmations.

Upon our arrival was a very sweet note from Suzy. Everything was welcoming and comfortable. The home is everything the other reviewers say. My only regret is that I didn't stay longer than a week! We enjoyed cooking our breakfast and half our dinners in the well appointed kitchen. We used the grill twice, which was very nice...and we certainly took advantage of the spa every chance we got.

I look forward to another chance to visit the Magnolia House again in the future, and certainly would recommend it to anyone looking for a "home away" from home. Thanks, Suzy, for all the hospitality!
