2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, sleeps up to 5 maximum

The Matzinger Cottage is located on the east side of Lower Herring Lake with its own sandy area and dock. It is set 100' from the lakefront and located back amongst the pines and birches creating a quiet setting. This cottage has a complete, clean, modern kitchen with dishwasher. There are two bathrooms and two bedrooms. An eco friendly clothes washer and dryer are in the cottage. There is a dining/living room with fireplace, eating area with a lake view, a front sitting area with lake view and a deck with table and chairs and charcoal grill. There is a large table inside for eating, doing puzzles or for games. This private, end of lane cottage, has a beautiful view of the lake and woods. It has a stone fireplace inside. Rental includes satellite tv.

Sand Toys and Swimming: Sand Toys are available for play outside in the sandy area on the lakefront.

The lake is a good swimming lake with a gradual change in depth.

The beach in front of the dock is sandy. We have added sand for a play area. There is some lake grass right on the shoreline. It is about waist deep past the end of the dock and stays at that depth for a good ways out. The inlet from Herring Creek carrying water from Upper Herring Lake separates the cottage from foot traffic.

At the water's edge there are small stones and sand mixed. The farther, and deeper out you go, the sandier it becomes.

Frankfort, nearby to the north in Betsie County offers a range of activities, such as biking on a paved trail, grocery, bakery, bookstore, gift shops and many places to dine out and the recently restored Garden Theater. The Interlochen Center for the Arts is within an hour's drive.

Nearby Beulah and Benzonia have shopping opportunities.

Farther up M22 you arrive at Sleeping Bear Dunes and on to Leland for shops. Take M115/US31 to Interlochen and then on to Traverse City which has many more options for dining and shopping.

There is a range of golfing opportunities in the area.
