About Marco & Silvia

mok'house is primarily a concept of hospitality: our aim is to ensure that our guests really get to know the real Rome, avoiding the tourist traps and making the most out of their stay. We like to reccomend the best solutions according to the taste and interests of our guests.

mok'house is the result of hundreds of trips for study, work and holiday, a master's degree in hotel management and 10 years of experience in customer care in major global sport events (Olympics and World Cup).

Marco & Silvia purchased this apartment in 1901

Why Marco & Silvia chose Colosseum area

I was so lucky I didn't have to buy it: my great grand father bought this building at the beginning of the past century (1901). Now that is one of the most famous neighbourhood of Rome (the 1st and most ancient too), I started this business with the aim of giving the best of Rome to my guests!

What makes this apartment unique

All our guests also have access to our rooftop terrace, the ideal space to enjoy a glass of wine while admiring a stunning sunset, having a BBQ (upon request), or play chess while listening to music.

You will live right in the heart of the true Rome: we are in the so called 'Rione Monti', 10mins walking from the Coliseum and walking distance from all the main monuments. The area is alive but not noisy. The restaurants and the wine bars that populate our neighbourhood are the best in the city.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Mok'House was a great place to stay - clean, comfortable, convenient. The hosts were a pleasure to deal with and provided many helpful suggestions from beginning to end. Rooftop deck was lovely, especially at sunset. Apartment was modern and well cared for. We would love to return some day.

What a great place to stay in middle of Rome!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had the opportunity to vacation in Rome the in July. We were fortunate enough that we "found" MokHouse and Marco. The accommodations were better than advertised, and Marco's attentative manner was above and beyond what we expected. His excellent English made communications very easy. His recommendations for sight seeing and restaurants were spot on as well. One cannot go wrong staying at the MokHouse!

Owner's Response: It was a great pleasure to have this fantastic family here at mok'house. I will always be grateful for their good words and for recognition of my "back of house" work. I know I did a good job when my guests feel just like at home!

simply the best

  • 5 of 5

we stayed at mok'house for the second year in a row over Christmas - it was fantastic as our last stay. the apartment is great - exactly as described in the listing and very spacious for our family of 4 with 2 teenage boys - and we love the Monti neighborhood (not touristy but close to the things we wanted to do). but what really sets this place apart is all the little things the mok'house team does. we've stayed 4 other places (1 in rome & the others in other European cities) and mok'house has the attention to detail that makes the difference between staying at a good apartment and having a great trip. from the onsite manager (who helped us track down a package of Christmas presents from the delivery company) to the notebook filled with all the details you need to really enjoy your stay (where are the 3 closest grocery stores, etc.) to the fully stocked kitchen, they really do a great job.

when we visit Rome next time, we'll be staying here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your good words! We are so happy when our guests enjoy their stay at mok'house and appreciate our level of service. We like to provide you a home in Rome rather than considering you simply "the guests" and we are so happy when we read such reviews! Looking forward to have you back one day! Ciao!

Our Home in Rome

  • 5 of 5

“Our” apartment in Rome was amazing – huge and containing everything we needed. We felt truly part of an Italian neighbourhood – leaning out our windows to see what was happening and walking everywhere. We had lots to look at out the five windows – two weddings, the Irish pub, Il Pane (the bread store, which was only open in the morning Tuesday-Saturday), the closest restaurant, and other neighbours. But closing the very good windows shut out any noise very effectively. In our seven days there we took the Metro only three times, even though two stations were very close, because the apartment’s location was so good.

Marco was the perfect host and went above and beyond to help us. He organized tickets to the Galleria Borghese (book at least two days ahead) and did a spectacular job of finding us a reasonably-priced private tour of Pompeii, complete with being picked up at the Naples train station, a quick tour of Naples, followed by a tour of Pompeii. We often dropped into the office after our day out, when Marco and his staff always appeared delighted to see us and expressed interest in our day. Our questions were answered promptly and email communication was excellent.

Great, spacious apartment

  • 5 of 5

Marco was great to deal with and very accommodating (for example, we needed both an early check in and late check out and had one issue where the hot water stopped working and he was there in 2 minutes to help). He gives you some great recommendations for restaurants and markets as well, and maps and guidebooks are available for your use.

The location is nice, in terms of being super close to both metro lines, a quick jaunt to Termini station and in between the Colosseum area and the other tourist sites, while tucked in a side street. Be aware, however, this is Rome so bring your ear plugs as there is a bit of city noise most of the time. Right on the street, you can find a bakery and some quick food stops along with trattorias and an Irish Pub, which is quite convenient if you'd like a nightcap as it is directly across the street.

The apartment itself is very spacious. It would be way more than one couple would need, good for two couples or a family especially if you wanted to cook in the apartment or spend time relaxing there between sightseeing. We were out and about so much we probably didn't need all that space, but you'll find plenty of room to spread out. The layout is pretty separated so it allows everyone their own space, not often true in European apartments. One bedroom is on the far side of the living room (facing the front street), with use of a bathroom at the far end of the hallway by the kitchen. The other bedroom is across from the entrance with en suite bathroom. The living room is large with a (pull out, I believe?) couch and chairs.

Very clean (you also get a cleaning after 3 days, which I have found is not usually the case in rental apartments, so it was nice this was provided for change of towels, freshen things up) and nicely furnished. Cute theme of the Mok, with lots of related decor.

Just to make sure you know the details (all laid out in the listing exactly as stated): No washing machine, no freezer (typically fine for vacation anyway) and pretty small showers...nothing unusual for Europe. Up one flight of stairs with no elevator.

Marco manages other apartments and a B&B in the building (and their office is downstairs) so it is also nice having such ease of access for any needs you might have.

vacation

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect place to stay--very clean and centrally located. Marco and Andrea were wonderful. I'd recommend writing their many suggestions of restaurants down; it was almost too much for me to remember. We loved the gelato place down the street that they recommended. The "500" apartment is very clean, nice little balcony. It's on the 4th floor, but they saved my husband a heart attack by carrying up our luggage. We would definitely stay here again. Even the van they called to take us to the airport was a good experience-- a very interesting man drove us. Recommendation to guests staying in Rome: it's worth it to make reservations at restaurants in Rome. We missed out on a couple by not doing so.

WE LOVED IT!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this apartment! It was a new neighborhood in Rome for me-one that I hadn't stayed in before-and although it was a ways away from the center, I found a whole new world. The apartment was great. It was clean, stocked with kitchen supplies and full of local art. Check in was very easy, and Marco welcomed us despite us arriving so early in the morning! Thank you Marco for a wonderful stay in Rome! We will definitely come back and stay in the Mok apartment again!
