Guestbook comments from the owner

I have repeatedly attempted to post the following Review. At least on HomeAway, your last review is over a year old. DO YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO POST THIS?

MUCH MORE THAN WE EXPECTED! This is NOT the typical vacation rental. EXPECT TO BE VERY FAVORABLY IMPRESSED... First of all this home is on a totally private river front estate with the mountains all around. The home is very well appointed and decorated, with highest quality fixtures and appliances. The huge Living Room with high ceilings has four leather sofas providing plenty of room. There is a massive stone fireplace with remote control gas logs to take the "chill" off the mornings. The large "picture perfect" Dining Room has a second stone fireplace. All of this with views of the river and the mountainside beyond that. The Master Bedroom Suite is extraordinary. My grandsons didn't want to get out of the Hot Tub. We enjoyed the Fire Pit for Smores next to the river, and the extensive grounds for foot ball. So much to do in this area. Do not miss tubing or rafting down the river. As we were leaving, my grandson said, "I want to Stay! I don't want to leave!" We all agreed with him. DO NOT MISS OUT ON THIS FINE VACATION HOME....

Better than fhe pictures!

  • 5 of 5

We were pleasantly surprised to find the house nicer than the pictures. The river was so beautiful, with quite a few rafters passing by. River was shallow enough for our two teenagers to enjoy swimming. We thoroughly enjoyed coffee out on the deck every morning. With table seating for 8 inside and out, everyone had plenty of room to dine. Kitchen is small, so I would recommend bringing some sort of storage containers for food and kitchen items. We had a great time...thanks for sharing your home with us.

What a beaut!

Shirl's cabin is fantastic. As other reviewers have said, the pictures don't do it justice. Everything was clean and organized. The bedding was gorgeous hotel quality sheets, comforters, and tons of decorative pillows. I enjoyed a nice long bubble bath in the master suite tub with the jets massaging my back and legs. Total relaxation! Had a nice long soak in the hot tub as well, which was clean as a whistle. The cows and wild turkeys across the river provided us with a lot of amusement as we watched them go about whatever it is that cows and turkeys do all day (which is apparently eat).

Long chats on the back deck around the patio table. Fun games while we shared bottles of wine, all of us settled on the comfy leather couches in the living room. Plenty of room at the table for everyone for dinner night together. Internet was very reliable, only giving us a couple times with maybe 2-3 minutes of slow connection over the course of four days. Only mention here is for safety's sake: please pay attention to the step down from one level of the deck to the other near the hot tub. It can be a tricky thing when you've had a bit of wine ;)

Don't let the exterior photos of all the stairs put you off. There is a front door that only has about seven steps that is not listed in the photos.

I do hope to return this fall perhaps. I know that as gorgeous as this was when we were there during the rainy spring season, that fall would blow it out of the water!

Thank you, Shirl, for a beautiful property that is thoughtfully appointed and very VERY reasonably priced!

The best part is the view in the back yard. The river streaming by will be great fun for tubing or rafting in the summer, or for the fisherman in your group to try to catch dinner!

Great vaca

Thank you for allowing us to enjoy your home. The house and property are beautiful. The hot tub was perfect to come back to after a busy day. The home was clean and maintained. Had a few lady bug visitors inside the house, and the kitchen could use new towels. We replaced a few light bulbs on the back porch, dining room, and kitchen. Over all, we look forward to returning this summer. Thank you again.

An Amazingly Awesome Place

  • 5 of 5

We arrived after dark so as we entered the cabin and turned on the lights, our mouths fell open in awe. The living area is huge yet warm and cozy with the authentic decor and two large stone fireplaces that add a magnificent glow to the entire living and dining rooms. Four sofas that either recline or with ottomans. We were a family of nine and everyone was comfortable at all times. Each bedroom was uniquely decorated with a special theme, fine linens, blankets as were the bathrooms. The next day we were so impressed to see the beautiful landscape, cows, turkeys on the hill, the beautiful river that ran along side the cabin. The kitchen was small but we easily overlooked that due to all the other positives this amazing place has. I was also very impressed at the reasonable price for this phenominal place. My family has never spoken as highly over a cabin we've rented and we've done these family trips for 12 or more years from Gatlinburg - Boone/Blowing Rock annually. This cabin has truly won the prize for best all around. You can tell that a lot of love went into this place and you can feel it from the time you walk into the door till the time you leave. Thank you Shirl!

We have stayed in VRBO houses all over the Smoky's, but this one is the best! The pictures do it no justice. This cabin is awesome. Set right on the Little Tennessee River on at least 5 acres, this house has a lot to offer! Rafting in the summer, tubing in the winter (if it snows), or just sit on the porch and enjoy the dark skies and a million stars!! Once here, you might not want to leave. It is nicely situated in the middle of the Smoky Mountain area and the Nantahalla National Forest. Caution however, do not trust finding this place with GPS! The directions given are good, but GPS will take you to the other side of the river. There is no sign for the little road to take down to the house.

Owner's Response: The wind blew down the state sign but it has now been put back up and we also contacted google maps to let them know they have our home marked wrong on their maps. Their maps do now show the main road to get to the cabin and but they still have the actually house marked wrong but if you follow our directions after google maps gets you to the main road it will be easy to find.

Beautiful Vistas. Wonderful Accommodations.

This is the perfect property for R&R. The living area was huge which was great for our group of 6 to entertain ourselves with games, cards, and puzzles. The two fireplaces made for an extremely cozy and relaxing atmosphere. Across the river, cows graze on pasture and help you to forget all your cares back at home. After a day of lazy games and watching football, we would retire to the hot tub and enjoy the views of the river, pasture, and mountains in the distance. A perfect getaway. As others have said, the kitchen is small, but with all the other space and amenities, you really won't mind. We had many home cooked meals without issue. I have rented a lot of properties through Homeaway and VRBO and this home rates in my top two ever! Shirl is so accommodating and very easy to work with in setting up your stay. We will definitely be back again soon. Thanks so much for helping us ring in the New Year in style. Happy 2015!
