ULU PUA, which means 'flower garden' in Hawaiian, is a classic, Kauai-style hale, or home. Situated in a lovely landscaped surround of tropical fruit trees and flowers. The ocean view is framed by brightly flowering hibiscus, plumeria, mango and coconut trees. The home sleeps six and features a large, inviting lanai with wonderful views of ocean and garden, and a homey living area with plenty of space for cooking and good conversation. Just a short walk to one of Hawaii's most beautiful beaches, it occupies a private spot set back from the road. One man, who spent time at Ulu Pua, left saying that this is a home that makes people happy. The decor is playful with hand painted petroglyphs lining the rafters and birds singing in the sunset. If you want to get a feel for the way most Kauaians live, Ulu pua is a good choice.

On the south side of the island, Ulu Pua is close to a surfing school, world class golf courses, beautiful beaches for swimming and snorkeling, resorts and restaurants, and a harbor where snorkel and whale-watching boats conduct regular ocean tours. The area offers wonderful experiences for nature lovers including hiking in tropical forests, the world famous Waimea Canyon, and the world's highest swamp, the Alakai Swamp. The National Botanical Gardens, where scenes from 'Jurassic Park' were filmed is two miles distant. A two minute walk from Ulu Pua can allow one to see sea turtles, porpoises, monk seals, whales and a wide variety of birds.

My family and I have stayed five different times in this house for 35+ nights at a time. It is truly a fabulous place. Summer 2013 will be our first summer not staying at Ulu Pua and I'm super sad. This house has all the comforts of home, is well stocked, and beautifully decorated. It is perfect for relaxing, cooking, and entertaining. The location is PERFECT! The house is so close to the beach, yet very private at the end of the day. The screened in lanai is awesome for afternoon naps! The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. I especially LOVE the shower head in the master bathroom!! Another plus to this house is there are no critters!! Many homes in this area have ants and tiny roaches, but this place is BUG FREE!!! You really can't beat the price of this place either. You will not find another place in Poipu so reasonably priced....and if you do it won't even compare to Ulu Pua. I know next summer I will be crying because I won't be staying here!!
