Cape Cod is the 'sand, sun and surf' area of Massachusetts. Harwich is at the 'elbow' of the Cape, so you will be centrally located to enjoy all that the Cape has to offer, or you can easily focus on the Lower and Outer Cape while vacationing at Beach Heather. One mile / 1.6 km, a quick few minute drive, to Red River Beach on Nantucket Sound This is a great beach with its gentle, rolling surf. Harwich also boasts many wonderful freshwater ponds, many along our scenic bike trail. The 'Atlantic Side' beaches of the National Seashore are about 15 - 20 minutes away. The village of Harwich Port, with shops, boutiques and galleries is less than a five minute drive away. The quaint town of Chatham is about 10 minute drive. Minutes away is a ferry which will take you to the upscale and exclusive island of Nantucket for a fun and memorable day trip.

Notes: Outside is a very level and grassed back yard - perfect for children to play. You will enjoy the patio and deck for lounging, eating, and breathing fresh, Cape Cod air. For cooking, the gas BBQ is easy to operate outdoors. Like to read or take a nap? The outdoor hammock is between two trees in a shady part of the yard - it's perfect!!!

Our holiday Mid-Cape in Harwich.

This is the perfect place to explore the Cape. Nothing is far away with beautiful beaches and small towns and villages throughout the area. The house was immaculate throughout and extremely well equipped. The owner's hospitality was fantastic (we were greeted with flowers, fruit and a freshly baked cake!) The area is very quiet and relaxing with a bike trail around the corner. Bikes can be hired at the local village of Chatham. We reccommend you visit Nantucket which is beautiful and hire bikes there to explore the island. Again, the ferry is very near in Harwich Port. Mini golf at Pirate Cove is great fun as is Harbor Mini golf. The Painted Lady in Sandwich was a lovely place to eat on the way back to the airport (a bit more upmarket). The only place we didn't like was Provincetown which was rather tacky, however I believe this is a great place to go whale watching (we ran out of time!). The shops in Chatham were very quaint and individual but if you want the bigger stores there is a mall in Hyannis or Boston 90 minutes away. My 8 year old visited Build a Bear twice!! The house is every bit as good as it looks and we would definitely visit again and are thinking of rebooking for 2010. An excellent base to explore the Cape.

A little piece of Paradise

Beach Heather really is a haven of tranquility and the Huckman's are fabulous hosts. From the moment we arrived nothing was too much for them. The basket of goodies that awaited our arrival, and the 'what to see and do', and where to eat binders were a boon. The whole area around Beach Heather was so calming and peaceful, it was easy to get lost in the moment. Time almost seemed to stand still, we were there a week, but it seemed much longer. There are plenty of excellent restaurants to eat at, and there is ample for people of all ages. The Huckmans provide everything you could possibly need, from basics like tea, coffee and various sundries, to towels and a barbeque, right down to the bucket and spade for the beach (if you've got kids). The setting is ideal for a romantic getaway or a family holiday. And if you like seafood - you'll be in heaven. I'd particularly recommend the Whale Watching from Provincetown if you get the opportunity. The sea was a mere 15 mins walk, or 3 if you take the car and the local beach was clean and uncrowded. We spent endless hours just relaxing with a picnic on the beach. This place really is a treasure and it really is one of the most tranquil and beautiful places to stay.
