Fantastic - Old Orchard in the Off-Season

Date of Stay: September 2009
We rented Mike's condo at the Grand Victorian for three days in September 09 following Labour Day. The condo is well appointed, with comfortable furniture, and ample light and air on two sides, with east and south facing windows and balconies. Mike's new high-definition flat screen TV is also impressive.
Because we were there in the off-season, the amusement park across the street was not operating, and many restaurants and stores only operate Friday to Sunday in September, but there were more than enough shops, stores, restaurants and amusement facilities to keep us more than satisfied. The result is a quiet stay. You can literally park the car and leave it there, taking in a lot just by walking about. The Amtrak station is only a block away, and the train coming through is actually quite quaint. It's about an hour to Boston if you want a day trip. It doesn't run during sleeping hours so it won't wake you when it sounds it's horn at the level crossing one block from the building.
By the way, some of the best fried clams can be had at JJ's Too, also just a block away.
Mike's condo was exceptionally clean, with a well equipped kitchen, granite countertops, wall oven and wall microwave, and a full featured ceramic-top cook surface. Amateur cooks will love this kitchen. Hint, bring along a small herbs and spices kit, with maybe your favourite saute pan. I did and it made for a great cooking experience.
We will most likely stay here again. It is close to LL Bean (less than an hour north, and the Kittery outlets (just a half-hour south). There is a Hanafords within a ten minute drive for your food essentials. Really, this is a great location.
But best of all is the beach. At this time of year it is still warm, but without the crowds, and you can walk for miles and enjoy the surf, on the only sandy beach for miles north or south. Enjoy.
