About Jay Lee

My partner and I, Pat, who is camera shy, had been taking our entire families on vacation for years in lieu of presents. We both love to travel and needed a warm and accessible place to get away and relax. We love Mexico and in particular Puerto Vallarta for the combination of mountains, beaches and the ocean. We decided the minute we walked through the Spanish Arches of Casa Vista los Arcos and saw the view and beautiful villa that this was for us. Welcome! Jamie & Pat, Chicago, IL.

Jay Lee purchased this villa in 2007
Why Jay Lee chose Puerto Vallarta

For us, the south side of Banderas Bay was the preferred spot. You have the combination of mountaiins, jungle, wildlife, beaches, water actvities and many of the family activities such as zip lines, boating, jungle treking and the botanical gardens. The south side is truely Mexico. If you want to see water, mountains, beautiful beaches, fantastic villas and wildlife instead of McDonalds, then the south side is for you.

Casa Vista Los Arcos overlooks Mismaloya Beach, the beach where 'Night of The Iguana' was filmed, which made Puerto Vallarta famous. Just beyond the beach lies Los Arcos, the large rock formations where everyone goes to snorkel, fish and watch the whales. The general area is termed Conchas Chinas (The Gold Coast) with large villas sprinkled across the jungle hillsides and along the coastline. The area offers an abundance of fine dining and local fair along with activities galore. The New Botanical Gardens, The Zoo, Chico's Paradise, canopy tours, hiking, fishing, snorkeling, and jungle excursions on foot, horseback or on ATVs are all minutes away. There are also many small fishing villages and private beaches that are accessible only by boat. And for those who want to party and shop, Downtown Puerto Vallarta is only 15 minutes up the one main road. Drive, take a taxi, water taxi or bus to town--The villa is perfectly located to relax during the day and go to town at night.

Notes: Our home has an English-Speaking houseman and daily maid service-- except on Sundays and Mexican Holidays. We or our houseman can arrange for almost anything not already provided-- just ask! We would suggest renting a car or two (instead of one big SUV) as it may not fit in the garage. A Jeep Liberty or small mini-van is the largest vehicle that will fit! Don't kill yourself dragging hair dryers etc or too many clothes as we provide almost everything and the maid can do laundry for an extra charge. The Casa also comes complete with wi-fi and free unlimited calls to and from The U.S.

One of the best family vacations ever!

5 of 5
Submitted: February 17, 2008 Stayed: February 2008
This was my families first vacation together at a villa. Previously we had always stayed at resorts, mostly all-inclusive. After staying at Casa Vista Losa Arcos, we will never go back to a resort. The villa was amazing-- especially the view. It was private, sunny, relaxing and the staff was extremely professional-- they were around when we needed them and invisible when we didn't. The hosekeeper, Vernoica, was also an exceptional cook and it was great having breakfast waiting for us every morning. My entire family agreed that we felt part of the ultra-wealthy for a week and we spent about half of what we would have spent at a resort.

Owner's Response: This guest touched on something that I think is very important that I want to reiterate: Compared to staying at a resort, villa life is much better, in my opinion. We made the switch as vacationers years ago and now I am an owner. I don't think there is any better testimony to how comfortable and enjoyable a stay with family and friends can be at your own villa vs with crowds of people at a resort.

MAJOR CONSTRUCTION RIGHT NEXT DOOR not a relaxing atmosphere at all!

1 of 5
Submitted: May 6, 2013 Stayed: April 2013
Nice House but there is a massive construction project next door, literally right on top of the house. IF your planning on sleeping in or relaxing around the house forget it. Work begins at 7:30 am and doesn't end till after 6 pm. Between the dust in the air and the pool, the nonstop BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG from sun up to sundown, and the constant gawking from the crew, is unnerving to say the least and not the relaxing atmosphere we were anticipating.
The main kitchen refrigerator and freezer did not work at all, and having to spread the food, drinks and ice we purchased between the lockout on the fourth level and the pool side fridge on the first level was a real pain. There is no hot water in kitchen sink, so plan on the dishes not being sanitized.
A car is necessary, the 1/4 mile walk to the beach disclosed means a 30 degree angle hill to hike. Just below the house is a local squatting area where the local litter like crazy...plan on seeing that to and from the house.
Plan to be harassed on the beach by locals selling there wares, it is constant, the owners told us they dont do that.
The "free phone line to the USA/Canada" didnt working and the internet access is sketchy at best.
The owners dont think its necessary to disclose any of this and claim it is out of their control.
Owner's Response: I am very disappointed in this review as a property does not go from four and five stars in all of the other reviews overnight to one star. Please see other reviews. Unfortunately the guest is correct in one thing, heavy construction started next to us a week before their arrival. This includes pounding of support beams into the ground, which is very noisy. For that I am sorry, but we didn't know about it at the time the guest made the booking or before their arrival. That part of the construction will be done within two to three weeks as we have had a chat with the construction manager next door. I really take offense to this guest implying that they were mislead. I actually think they were just upset which is understandable but to be fair they were already staying on a much discounted rate. The guest did not notify us of the other problems until well into their stay and quite honestly they started to nitpick which unfortunately is the case when someone isn't happy. The refrigerator/freezer has been replaced, the internet fixed, which also fixes the Vonage Line (internet is still spotty in Mexico everywhere) and you do not need a car if you don't mind a walk. It is personal choice whether you need that or not.

Awesome family vacation!

5 of 5
Submitted: May 4, 2013 Stayed: March 2013
We stayed here with two families including 5 kids ranging from 8-14 years old and we had a blast. The house was awesome; the girls and boys had their own quarters, and both master suites were great. The walk down to the beach was easy, and we managed to get a $5 deal for a ride back up each day (at the Taxi stand). They are quite negotiable. The highlight of the trip was dining at La Choza (Tony's) in Mismaloya at sunset. Ask for Tino on the beach; he works at one of the small restaurants and took care of us all week. The locals on the beach will beat any tour/excursion price. The El Eden zip lines were a blast, and we fished and snorkeled from the Mismaolya beach. I think if I were to do it again I would get a rental car just for the ride up and down the hill. We had breakfast included each day, which was wonderful. We purchased some food at a tiny store in Mismaloya and cooked our own dinner a couple of times, with the remaining meals on the beach or at one of the restaurants in town. 99% of our 7 days were spent in Mismaloya; there is not much reason to leave. I would do it again!
Owner's Response: This review is completely accurate and representative of the house and of Mismaloya. Obviously this family appreciates enjoying what an authentic Mexican vacation really is about. Koodos and Thank You!

Would recommend this for a relaxing and beautiful vacation spot. Restaurants, beach and shopping are close by yet everything is far enough away to feel isolated and private. Very clean and the layout is amazing. Best vacation so far.

Refreshing and Relaxing

4 of 5
Submitted: June 5, 2012 Stayed: May 2012
Casa Vista Los Arcos is a breathtaking experience for anyone looking for something other than the normal experience at an all inclusive resort. My boyfriend and I, along with a few of our favorite couples, had the pleasure of staying here for our week away from everything this year. The rooms are separated in a way that everyone has full privacy, which makes traveling with friends much easier. Every day I would wake up and just stare at the ocean for a few hours, to have breakfast waiting when I went downstairs. The afternoon heat was easily escaped by jumping in the pool and not coming out until the sun had set over the horizon. The location of this villa makes disruptions from the outside world very minimal, but if you're looking to sit at the beach, it is just a short walk away.

Now to stop oogling... the owner of this villa is incredibly attentive and provides a wonderful packet of information about the surrounding area. I had many questions before my arrival, and he answered all of them very quickly! A few things I learned on my journey that weren't in the package:

-Ley is probably the best grocery store in Puerto Vallarta. They had everything, and it was very reasonably priced!

-For the picky eater, the downtown location of Domino's pizza delivers to the villa (ask for extra salsa picante for the pizza, SO delicious!)
