About Jamie Sutherland

My partner and I, Pat, who is camera shy, had been taking our entire families on vacation for years in lieu of presents. We both love to travel and needed a warm and accessible place to get away and relax. We love Mexico and in particular Puerto Vallarta for the combination of mountains, beaches and the ocean. We decided the minute we walked through the Spanish Arches of Casa Vista los Arcos and saw the view and beautiful villa that this was for us. Welcome! Jamie & Pat, Chicago, IL.

Jamie Sutherland purchased this villa in 2007

Why Jamie Sutherland chose Puerto Vallarta

For us, the south side of Banderas Bay was the preferred spot. You have the combination of mountaiins, jungle, wildlife, beaches, water actvities and many of the family activities such as zip lines, boating, jungle treking and the botanical gardens. The south side is truely Mexico. If you want to see water, mountains, beautiful beaches, fantastic villas and wildlife instead of McDonalds, then the south side is for you.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The owner donated a week to our anual auction. I am CFO for an agency that provides HIV prevention and treatment services. It was our largest donation ever and I also know that the owner has been very generous to not only our organizations but many in The Chicagoland Area. I was the winning bidder at another charitiy's auction. I took my sisters, their children and my partner on the vacation of a lifetime that we will all remember. This property is even better in-person than the photos even depict. I have never been to such a tranquil place in my life. I highly recommend this property, it's staff and it's generous owner.

Awesome family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here with two families including 5 kids ranging from 8-14 years old and we had a blast. The house was awesome; the girls and boys had their own quarters, and both master suites were great. The walk down to the beach was easy, and we managed to get a $5 deal for a ride back up each day (at the Taxi stand). They are quite negotiable. The highlight of the trip was dining at La Choza (Tony's) in Mismaloya at sunset. Ask for Tino on the beach; he works at one of the small restaurants and took care of us all week. The locals on the beach will beat any tour/excursion price. The El Eden zip lines were a blast, and we fished and snorkeled from the Mismaolya beach. I think if I were to do it again I would get a rental car just for the ride up and down the hill. We had breakfast included each day, which was wonderful. We purchased some food at a tiny store in Mismaloya and cooked our own dinner a couple of times, with the remaining meals on the beach or at one of the restaurants in town. 99% of our 7 days were spent in Mismaloya; there is not much reason to leave. I would do it again!

Wonderful two weeks in this beautiful Casa

  • 4 of 5

We just returned the end of Jan from this beautiful home away from home... we had a 60 th birthday celebration and we were able to enjoy the first week with very close friends of ours ...4couples and the second week with our sons and their significant others.... We will cherish the memories that we will hold close in our hearts. the views were amazing and Jorge and Anna made our stay very comfortable. We didn't mind the walk down the road to the beach and into Mismaloya proper but some older people might not enjoy this as it is a bit of a work out on the old knees... a cheap cab always got us home and the bus into town is cheap as well. We didn't rent a car but chose to hire private driver for day trips... To Seyulita... A great surfing town... Everyone loved it and then we hired our own boat guy to tKe us to Yelapa for afternoon and did a bit of fishing with the guy. my husband caught a beautiful 20 lb bull head dolphin which we really enjoyed eating at our villa. The Villa was fully equipped with everything you need to make your holiday a truly relaxing time. We would return to the villa again if we decide to come back to this area. The only thing my husband and I really wished was that the actual beach was one that you could take long walks on... And that unfortunately isn't an option...El Jaculitas was our very most favorite and so reasonable... we ate at Tony's and it was good but compared to El Jaculitas we all agreed the food wasn't as good for the money. we had a great dinner in town at the Blue Shrimp... And for shit and giggles we all headed over to Andeles where we drank a little too much and once again my husband made another memory...ride the donkey... No you are never too old to have fun... We sure did. thanks Jamie for all your help and information before hand ... And say hi to Jorge and Anna when you speak to them... Tell Jorge and Anna I'm missing my breakfast each and every day....

"PARADISE" WAS THE GENERAL CONSENSUS

  • 5 of 5

This trip was a Christmas gift to my adult children and grandchildren who all went and had the time of their lives. They just raved about Jorge and Lorena and their family who they met. They loved the accommodations and the house help and the area and it sounds like they did it all: snorkeling, swimming with dolphins and sea lions, in to PV and Sayulita and San Pancho and some other deserted beach just north of there....they hiked, they paddle-boarded, body surfed and just in general lived la vida loca for 11 days!! It will be hard to top this when Christmas rolls around in 2015...I think they would just like an annual pass to this beautiful villa in Mismaloya.

Amazing!

  • 5 of 5

This house is absolutely beautiful we enjoyed it a lot. The houseman Jorge is awesome and extremely friendly and helpful. The only down fall was the construction next door which I knew was going on when I booked the house. It was a little noisy but totally doable and I would stay here again no questions asked. Jay was great to deal with the entire time leading up to the stay.

Map

Car: recommended

Casa Vista Los Arcos overlooks Mismaloya Beach, the beach where 'Night of The Iguana' was filmed, which made Puerto Vallarta famous. Just beyond the beach lies Los Arcos, the large rock formations where everyone goes to snorkel, fish and watch the whales. The general area is termed Conchas Chinas (The Gold Coast) with large villas sprinkled across the jungle hillsides and along the coastline. The area offers an abundance of fine dining and local fair along with activities galore. The New Botanical Gardens, The Zoo, Chico's Paradise, canopy tours, hiking, fishing, snorkeling, and jungle excursions on foot, horseback or on ATVs are all minutes away. There are also many small fishing villages and private beaches that are accessible only by boat. And for those who want to party and shop, Downtown Puerto Vallarta is only 15 minutes up the one main road. Drive, take a taxi, water taxi or bus to town--The villa is perfectly located to relax during the day and go to town at night.

Other Activities: Canopy tours

Notes:
Our home has an English-Speaking houseman and daily maid service-- except on Sundays and Mexican Holidays. We or our houseman can arrange for almost anything not already provided-- just ask! We would suggest renting a car or two (instead of one big SUV) as it may not fit in the garage. A Jeep Liberty or small mini-van is the largest vehicle that will fit! Don't kill yourself dragging hair dryers etc or too many clothes as we provide almost everything and the maid can do laundry for an extra charge. The Casa also comes complete with wi-fi and satellite T.V. with English and Spanish Channels including sports.
