'El Cocal' is a setting ideal for group gatherings located on the sparsely populated Caribbean Coast of Honduras between Tela and Tornabe. The spacious wooden homestead enjoyed by college students, humanitarian groups, family reunions, corporate workshops, and action seeking adventurers was built originally for family reunions in 1980. Built on 18' pilings, this 10,000 Sq. Ft. home offers maximum ocean breezes, exquisite ocean views and shady areas below. Constant care, additions, renovations and on site caretakers keep this lovely home in excellent condition. Enjoy acres of coconut palms, fruit trees, white sand beaches and generally calm surf, siestas in hammocks, and high ceilings, comfortable beds and furniture. Enjoy a romantic getaway. Take time for personal reflection. Climb to the top of the meditation tower to do your morning Yoga. Go kayaking. Play tennis, volleyball. Write that novel. 'El Cocal' Homestead is a twelve acre cocopalm plantation beachfront getaway located between two Garifuna Villages, Tornabe (1 Km west) and San Juan (3 Km east). Tela City is 10 Km east. La Ceiba is 20 Km east where ferries or airplanes are available to go to the Bay Islands and other destinations. Copan ruins are a 4 hour car ride. There are many opportunities for service work or cultural exchange at the local schools, rural government and NGO clinics, orphanages, and protected national parks. There are fun day trip opportunities to river rafting, river foraging, botanical gardens, hidden lagoons, snorkeling trips and more. But some of best times are spent right there at the homestead floating in the calm Caribbean Sea, boogie boarding when the waves pick up, playing tennis or beach soccer or volleyball, kayaking, painting, writing, reading and stargazing.

Perfect place for the gathering of family in a private atmosphere. White sandy beaches invite sunbathers and swimmers alike.

Enjoy a pick-up game of volleyball or tennis to get your heart raising before nestling into a hammock for late lunch siesta.

Our group enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere here. The surfboards were especially appreciated by our youth. THe rooms were clean and spacious. We appreciated being able to cook our own meals. Tania, the hotel liason, was very freindly and helpful for the group. We enjoyed the large sitting room where we could relax and chat and play table games. I would recommend this beach house for a relaxing break from work.

Warm Welcome, Private Beach, Nice Rooms

When we arrived at the beach, Tonya showed us all of the accommodations with a smile. The resort was more than we expected and we were blown away with their generosity. They even brought us a large cake with the word "bienvenidos" (welcome) written on it. The water was clear and the waves were ample sized for boogie boarding.
Note to travelers, bring your food with you. The roads are rough to the resort and you'll not want to travel them until you need to check-out. There is cooking available, but the food was not exceptional. The host did, however, run to the store for us on more than one occasion to purchase essentials like milk, bread and eggs. Also, the current gets really strong in the late afternoon and prevents you from getting to the shore if you are out too far.
All in all, it was a very relaxing trip and the children really enjoyed the beach!

My husband, a college professor, and I accompanies a student group here for a mission trip. It is a gorgeous location, and the beach perfect. After a day of work, we enjoyed retiring to a spacious and comfortable home. Besides having plenty of bedrooms, the house also has a large living room that was perfect for group meetings and discussions. The college students enjoyed the trip tremendously. They appreciated experiencing another culture, from helping build a basketball court for the local school, to watching a lively performance of Garifuna dance. We would love to return with another student group, and many of the students also expressed interest in returning.

I have stayed at this house several times with my extended family. The house is incredible and the beach is beautiful. There are hammocks throughout the property and kayaks and other water toys to play with. This is the ultimate place for any large gathering. I'll definetly be back.
