Ask anyone who has been there, Santa Fe offers the best of two worlds any time of the year. Enjoy homelike comfort (mountain views and bird-song included), plus all the cultural attractions, shopping and fine restaurants of Santa Fe. The Plaza is a short 10-minute drive away and parking is plentiful. And we're just across the road from the Four Seasons Rancho Encantado resort.

Spring comes early to Santa Fe. By April we are already enjoying warm, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. It's a great time for hiking- there's a very nice trail just across the road. The tourist season has not yet kicked into high gear, which makes everything in town a little bit less hectic. Back at our retreat, (in the Rio Tesuque Valley) there is perfect serenity year-round.

Why stay in a faceless corporate hotel, when, for the same cost or less, you can wake up every morning in our light-filled, superbly appointed 'home away from home'? After a gorgeous Santa Fe day, you'll love coming home to a place where you can spread out and relax. We're sure you'll agree that it beats a minibar and a Do Not Disturb hang-tag.

Pueblo Encantado is a 95-acre community of 36 adobe-style homes in Tesuque, NM. Our light-filled, 1200 sq. ft. 2 bdrm/2 bath condo features a large living room with a wood-burning fireplace, beamed ceiling, and sleeper-sofa. We have two full bedrooms with king-size beds, two full baths, a fully equipped kitchen and a separate dining area. The master bedroom has its own entrance, kiva wood-burning fireplace and small patio. A large patio off the living room is ideal for relaxing and watching the sunset over the Jemez mountains. Amenities include air-conditioning, gas-grill, 150-channel satellite flat-panel TV, and Wi-Fi internet access from any room. The pool is open from May to October.

The Culture: Santa Fe and the surrounding area is a unique blend of three cultures- Native American , Hispanic and Anglo. Indian cave dwellings dating back 1000 years, Spanish villages from the time of the conquistadors and frontier towns founded as our country expanded westward present a fascinating overview of American and pre-American history.

Activities: Hiking trails, horseback riding, whitewater rafting in spring and autumn, winter skiing at Santa Fe Ski Basin, Pajarito Mountain near Los Alamos, or Taos Ski Valley. Shopping is excellent, whether you're seeking clothing, jewelry, art or antiques. Native American crafts and the work of other local artists are one of a kind and especially recommended. Area restaurants are justly famous, offering enough variety to suit all tastes and wallets, plus the best Margaritas to be found anywhere. For those who need to stay in contact, we have high-speed DSL and Wi-Fi.

We're across the road from the Four Seasons Rancho Encantado Resort, just 10 minutes from the Santa Fe Plaza, about 20 minutes to excellent skiing, and a short drive to Bandelier National Monument and Native American pueblos, Santa Fe has many museums, including the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum and the International Museum of Folk Art, and a fascinating childrens' museum. Visit Canyon Road, a winding street of art galleries and fine shops and restaurants. In summer, the Santa Fe Opera and the Santa Fe Chamber Music Festival put on highly-praised performances. The Lensic Theater, near the town plaza, is open year-round offering a wide range of music, dance, and talk. A beautiful 60-mile drive along the High Road brings you to the unique and colorful town of Taos. The Los Alamos Museum, 29 miles away, is devoted to the history and science of the atomic bomb and the people who built it.

Other Activities: sightseeing, bird-watching, freshwater fishing

Golf: Buffalo Thunder Resort about 5 miles north on US84/285.

Home Away From Home

5 of 5
Submitted: September 15, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
We had a wonderful stay at Pueblo Encantado! In town for a wedding at a nearby resort, the community was conveniently located close to downtown Santa Fe and the other wedding events. At the same time, it was quiet and peaceful, and provided a great place to kick back and relax.

The property was well maintained and equipped with everything we needed. At one point the batteries ran out in a TV remote and we found that the owners had extras available. They also provided a lot of useful resources detailing local restaurants, merchants, and other points of interest. They have carefully considered what to have on-hand to allow their visitors to unwind and enjoy their time in Santa Fe.

We hope to return, and absolutely recommend staying here.

Quiet Mountain Air Near Santa Fe

5 of 5
Submitted: September 14, 2012 Stayed: September 2012
Quiet and relaxing, great mountain views from patio, bedroom and living areas. Very well stocked home. You're only 10 minutes from the Plaza, which makes it really easy to kick around Santa Fe, then come back and relax in an area that feels really remote... but isn't. Also a great place to launch a trip to Taos or points north. Very clean property. Nice, comfortable southwest furnishings. Just a really nice place to vacation for a few days, a week, or a month.

Peace at Pueblo Encantado

4 of 5
Submitted: July 14, 2012 Stayed: July 2012
We arrived after a very long drive to find a beautiful, art-filled home away from home at Pueblo Encantado unit 219. The condo is equipped with everything you could possibly need, and then some (except a large pot for boiling pasta would be nice - just a suggestion). I'm guessing Rich and Joan are art lovers, because every wall and surface boasts gorgeous regional art, including a beautiful display of kachinas over the master bedroom fireplace. The beds were blissfully comfortable, everything was clean and tidy, and the information provided to travellers was plentiful.
As for location, if you are looking for peace and quiet, you won't find a better place for it. The condos are about a five- to 10-minute drive into Santa Fe, and from our unit you could hardly even tell that civilization was anywhere nearby. Rolling hills dotted with sagebrush sweep as far as the eye can see to the east and north, and bump right up against the dining room window, too. We heard coyotes howling early one morning, saw deer, hummingbirds and cottontail rabbits near our place too.
The only thing I would note is if you like to be in a walkable location, this isn't the place for you. You will have to get in the car every time you want to go out for dinner, get groceries, see the sights, go shopping. Also, there's no fitness facility for working out - so if you need your daily workouts, be prepared to run on the narrow, windy road nearby. You are quite isolated here.
One more thing to note - the pool is wonderful. We had it to ourselves every time we went, which was daily. It is very well maintained and clean, and the temperature is perfect on a hot summer day.
We had no complaints at all about the help we received from our hosts. Thanks for providing a beautiful place to get away from it all.
Sasha, Bob and Zander
Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind and well-written words. We're so glad you enjoyed your stay. We've put a pasta pot on our shopping list.

Perfect for small family

5 of 5
Submitted: July 4, 2012 Stayed: May 2012
We stayed at this house for 4 nights in May 2012. Attended a wedding across the road at the big resort. We're SO glad we had a house rather than a room at the lodge. The house was perfect for us and our two girls (ages 4 and 5). We had a nice place to relax when not attending wedding events. The girls loved the games in the cabinet in the den. Full kitchen allows for relaxed meal time (vs the much more formal offerings of the lodge). Nap time was easy. Pool wasn't open yet, but it looks great. Classical station on the radio was fabulous. Never did get the TV or DVD player to work in the den, but TV (and the DVD player) worked in the bedroom. Charming and convenient!
Owner's Response: Thanks for your kind review, John. We're so glad you had a good time. We fixed the TV in the living room! Best wishes to you and Laura.
