I grew up in Southern Utah, north of Zion National Park. My childhood was spent surrounded by beautiful landscape. Since my father was a cattle rancher, I had many opportunities to enjoy wide, open spaces. When I had a chance to buy a vacation home,I knew Driggs, Idaho, nestled near the Teton Mountains, was the place for me. The skies are bigger and the stars brighter. I like to spend time in places where people are friendly and hard working. This home in Teton Valley is truely western living at it's best !
Carolyn Leigh purchased this house in 2007
After an active day, you can relax on the porch or decks in a rocking chair looking at the gorgeous view of the Tetons. However, it doesn't matter which direction you look. The view is everywhere. In the early morning, having a cup of coffee in the swing counting cows and horses on the north deck is fun. As soon as the house was completed late 2007, wild grasses were planted up to the lawn. It gets better every year as the landscaping has matured and naturally fits with the surroundings. Highland Meadows is 130 acres of land with 6 homes on it. Eventually, there will be more homes but it's peaceful and quiet. It's a short drive into town, but I bought this home because of the feeling you have while you're there.
I enjoy the sun on my face and breathing crisp mountain air. If I want excitment, the Jackson Hole and Teton Valley area offers every kind of recreation imaginable whether it's fishing the Snake River, river rafting, hiking, golfing, riding horses in summer, or skiing and snowmobiling in winter. Sitting on the lawn at Grand Targhee or Jackson Hole Resort in the evening listening to music is my definition of a really great time. I also try to get to the Jackson Hole rodeo at least once every summer.
Your house was by far the nicest place we have stayed. We loved the beautiful view and gorgeous furnishings. The hot tub and stars were so relaxing after a long day's drive through Yellowstone. Happy 4th! Hope to come back in the future.
This house was exactly as described. It was perfect for three couples. The views from the porch were beautiful and the hot tub was very relaxing! We were surprised at the nice grocery store in Driggs. The furnishings were nicer than they appear on the web site and the kitchen was very convenient. We arrived after dark and we followed the directions as sent by the owner and they were exact. We were surprised that the house sits on a gravel road which just made us worry we may be in the wrong place! The drives to Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park were scenic. I would highly recommend this house for the vacationer who wants to get away from the crowds and save money on hotels and dining out. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
VIEWS!! Clean, comfortable, well designed, great hosts and fishing for my hubby. What more could a girl ask for but to peacefully read a book and look at that marvelous valley and Teton peaks? We'll be back.
My husband and I loved this place so much we came back! The house is beautiful, spacious and private, amenities abundant, hot tub fabulous, and view spectacular! Carolyn is great to work with as is her manager.
My husband had great time successfully fly fishing a different spot each day we were there. He generally travelled only 5-10 miles with only xception bein Henry's Fork which is closer to 50-60 miles. Plus, Jackson is a only a 30 minute drive. The countryside is diverse and beautiful, worth driving around to see.
I highly recommend making this a vacation home base and even a destination!
Recently spent nearly a week at this beautiful home. Whenever I was at the house I found myself constantly shooting pictures of the Grand Tetons. Everything was as advertised in the listing! The hot tub received regular use and was quite relaxing to those who chose to use the tub. Did I mention how supremely quiet it is at the residence?? The only thing you hear (outside of the occasional plane flying overhead...to include the occasional military jet, which was neat in and of itself) is the mooing of the neighboring cows.
Yellowstone (West Yellowstone) was around an hour and a half away, while Jackson and the GTNP was around 45 minutes to an hour away. Both definitely within driving distance. Stopped by GT Brewing Company in Victor, ID, was not serving at the time, but was still able to purchase a sample pack to bring home. Ate at several restaurants in town, Hacienda, Provisions (the old TWR Grill), Warbirds and Three Peaks. No complaints and recommend them all.
In a nutshell it was an awesome stay and vacation for myself. If I ever return to the area (which is a foregone conclusion) I will definitely consider this rental again.
We had the BEST time there on vacation! The home was beautiful and truly felt like home to us! Each day we would venture out, starting out early and coming in late afternoon, sometimes later and it was wonderful to see that beautiful home at the end of each fantastic day! We are Cajuns and love to cook, so we did cook several times and had everything we needed in the wonderful kitchen. The hot tub was wonderful! The first few days we were there it rained and we weren’t able to see the tops of the Tetons, but the weather cleared and it was simply magnificent! Each morning we saw hot-air balloons in the distance and it was just icing on the cake, so to speak. Your home made the trip that more memorable!
We stayed in Signal Mountain at GTNP for 2 nights and then 4 nights in YNP. We loved the parks and had a great time but after 6 nights sharing a hotel room with our kids, 11 and 12, we were thrilled to arrive at this lovely, well appointed and peaceful house for 3 nights to end our vacation.
The house had a great layout. We immediately raised all the blinds to have an open airy full view of the mountains and fields. Not sure which we liked more! Kids were thrilled to have a big tv and wifi and I was thrilled to do laundry, meet locals and read on either the front porch, back porch or swing, and we all loved the hot tub.
Although the weather did not cooperate enough to allow us to do whitewater rafting in Jackson or the double kayaks that Carolyn recommended on the Teton River, we still had a great time playing games that were at the house, hot tubbing, bike riding, going on the chair lift at Grand Targhee and doing some short hikes and eating some amazing meals at Teton Thai, Brakemans, the Royal Wolf, Hacienda C, and War Birds. Kids loved the milkshakes at the Victor Emporium.
Watching the storms was amazing-there were times you could not see the Grand Tetons at all. After one storm, we saw a double rainbow and one of the rainbows was complete from one end to the other.
The locals were so friendly. We even turned on the fireplace a few times after a storm would roll through. I loved being wakened by the mooing cows.
Carolyn, thanks for such a lovely house and for being so responsive. Scott, the caretaker, was great too-he got us an extra bike and helped with a medical issue.
We are trying to figure out when we can return next. This was a wonderful end to an amazing vacation.
