Villa Eau Claire is a unique property, behind a gate and fence, and sitting just over Magen Bay, with its own pocket beach, private deck with shower, and access to Magen's Bay, one of the most beautiful bodies of water anywhere. The property has two condo rentals; one a two bedroom property with one bath of 1000 sq ft and the other a two bedroom, two bath condo with about 1,400 sq ft.

This condo is the larger of the two and is the main portion of the owner's residence, with an extra bathroom and a much larger great room and kitchen, with vaulted ceilings in all rooms. The rents are slightly higher than for the other unit.

The house includes a covered deck for every bedroom, and the great room, and the views from the decks extend from Magen's Bay Beach to the South, the entire Bay and the Mountain across the Bay, down to the Atlantic Ocean to the northwest. The sunsets are wonderful, and the house faces southwest. The entire property was renovated completely, with all new kitchens and baths, and furniture, in 2008.

Magen's Bay is a very special place; the largest and most beautiful beach in the U.S. Virgin Islands, about one mile long and 10 to 20 yards wide, with great picnic area, and a small restaurant that serves among the best hamburgers and pizza on St. Thomas. Magen's Bay gets its unusual character because the prevailing easterlies blow from the beach outward, creating a tranquil body of water that covers an entirely sand bottom bay, with no rip tides or major currents.

There is large, comfortable bedroom and bath, with a king sized bed; and 2 twin bedroom with a bathroom.

The Great room includes a large sitting area, an inside dining area, a full sized kitchen with eating counter for five, and an outside eating area on the deck, served by a barbecue. The condo has a walk down of about 50 steps to a large beach deck, that walks directly into the water at the pocket beach.

Every room in the house opens directly onto a covered deck that overlooks the waters of Magen Bay, and the views are wonderful. The breezes are nearly constant, coming out from the beach, and they cool the property in the summer. Air conditioning is very seldom required, although it is available throughout the property.

One hundred yards to the left is the largest pocket beach on Magen's Bay, a 100 yard long beach that is the only place where nude or topless bathing is permitted on St. Thomas. The beach is used by only a few people at any one time, seldom more than 8 or 10, and it is considered the alternative lifestyle beach on St. Thomas. However, Eau Claire is separated from that beach by a rocky promontory, and it is perfectly comfortable for children of all ages.

Villa Eau Claire is equipped with a 27k generator with an automatic changeover switch that kicks in after 15 seconds. The island is experiencing frequent power outages and if you rental does not have a generator, you might find yourself very unhappy in your stay.

Please note: This condo can be rented in conjunction with the other condo at Eau Claire (#207564), which creates a four bedroom/three bathroom/two kitchen arrangement that will take up to eight people. The rate for renting both units for the same period is 10 percent off the combined rental for the two units separately.

About Annika Black

Villa Eau Claire is one of three properties that Gordon and Annika Black own and rent on St. Thomas. We specialize in rehabbing the entire property, with Gordon taking responsibility for the purchase and the basic design of the rehab, and with Annika providing the furnishings and interior decoration. Annika is a European, and it shows in the taste applied to the furnishing of the property. This is the sixth property we have done together, having sold three other villas. Gordon was in his past life the founder, Chairman and CEO of Harris Interactive (HPOL). Annika is an Interior Designer. They spend about six months on St. Thomas and the rest of the time in Paris and traveling. Julia Quetel is the House Manager and John Cooper, who built the Villa, takes care of maintenance.

Why this property? It is THE ONLY CONDO available directly on Magen Bay, with its own deck, shower, lawn chairs, and pocket beach. Villa Eau Claire is less than one half mile through the water -- a gentle sandy walk seldom above your knees -- to the main beach at Magen Bay. The views are spectacular; the sound of the waves is enticing; and the sand is wonderful. What more could anyone want? The property is gated and with good parking, and the lot is beautiful -- flowers, flowers everywhere!

What makes this condo unique

The condo is directly above the beach, with about 50 steps down to the deck below, and six steps to the beach itself. Also, the laundry room is directly below the deck. Although the property is completely air-conditioned, most guests, particularly in winter, do not use the air-conditioning because they want to hear the water at night. The beach next door -- less than 100 yards away -- is the alternative lifestyle beach and the hope to nude bathing -- the only such beach on St. Thomas.

Paradise

To say this place was beautiful is an understatement. Words do not do enough to capture the beauty of Villa Eau Claire. We arrived in the early afternoon and were greeted at the airport by the incredibly warm and helpful Julia. She took us to the supermarket and then we traversed the hilly roads to arrive at our condo. The views are amazing. We swam daily with sea turtles right in the pocket beach on the premise. We walked down to the big beach and enjoyed some pizza and rum punch and we spent the days snorkeling and swimming around the bay. This location was perfect for our two teenagers 15 and 17 and our friends that joined us in the studio apartment below. The condo was open, breezy and had everything we needed. The studio can get a little stuffy when it's quite warm, but the air conditioner cools it down quickly.

My husband developed a very serious tooth infection while on vacation and Annika the owner not only recommended a dentist, but also allowed us a later than usual checkout so he could rest before flying home. The only downside we experienced is no broom in the main condo (at least not one we could locate), but the people next to use let us borrow their broom. Oh and driving. Driving is a risky endeavor on the island, but one we adjusted to.

We cannot wait to return to this little slice of heaven on earth!

Perfection!

In my 44 years of vacationing, this was my favorite one ever. The condominium (more of a little house, really) is absolutely beautiful with gorgeous views from everywhere you look. We could not believe how good the snorkeling was right off the beach - in waist-deep water so my skittish kids were not even afraid to do it. My mother rented one of the other condos, and there was just one other family there, who had the other two condos. The little beach is amazing, and we loved the kayak rental from Magen's bay (just a really short drive away). Julia met us at the airport and was sweet as could be. I never want to return places after I've vacationed there, since I always want to see someplace new. I will have to make an exception this time! One hint: Bring cash - many places do not take credit cards!

Beautiful, Quiet and Amazing!

Amazing condo right next to Magens Bay. It was the perfect vacation for me and my two brothers. The water in the bay is crystal clear and from our balcony we could see the sea turtles swimming in the bay. You can run or walk to Magens Beach and get paddle boards and kayaks. It is also a short distance to Udder Delight which has the best milkshakes you will ever have. My brother had one on our third day there and got one everyday until we left seven days later. We rented a car because the villa has its own parking. Navigating around the island is really easy and there are a lot of activities you can do at other beaches without having to stay in a busy hotel. That was one of the best things about the villa, you were away from everything else and could enjoy a quiet beautiful day on your own beach if you wanted to.

Michelle, the housekeeper picked us up at the airport and took us to a grocery store to stock up on food. There is a grill on the balcony where we cooked our food almost every night and ate outside. Michelle also came and cleaned the house during the week. There was a washer/dryer below the condo which was really convenient. The inside of the condo is beautiful and the pictures on the site don’t really do it justice. There were plenty of beach towels and sunscreen in the condo as well. The kitchen has all the necessary cooking items/dinnerware.

The condo was away from I would definitely stay here again.

As close to paradise as you can get

Fabolous location at one of the best waters in the world, Magen's bay. A very big advantage is that you have access to your own private beach just 50 steps down from the house. Stunning views of the bay with clear turquoise water. Enjoyed watching the super Yachts anchoring in the bay. The condo is very well maintained and equipped and Michelle that met us at the airport and took us to the house the first night was super nice and helpful. We travelled with two teenagers who really enjoyed all US VI had to offer. The Property is quite steep with many stairs that get very slippery when it rains. Easy to fall even if you are careful. We would recommend that some anti slip measure is done to prevent serious injury. We had a fantastic week and will for sure return

Paradise Redefined

Annika & Gordon have recreated paradise at Villa Eau Claire. A wonderful destination where we enjoyed

the beauty of Megan's Bay. There were two couples, celebrating our wife's 50th birthdays. The accommodations, the location, the quality were superb. We've been coming to St Thomas for 10 years. This was absolutely the best 8 day stay we've ever had. Julia met us at the airport, took us to Pueblo's for groceries and onto Villa Eau Claire. She checked on us during the week. The location of Villa Eaul Claire was convenient to Charlotte Amalie, Red Hook, Mahogany Run, the airport and everything else on the island. St John, Tortola, Cooper Island, Virgin Gorda, Norman Island, Jost Van Dyke are all very accessible. I would recommend the Bad Kitty 49' catamaran for a day charter. DON'T DELAY, BOOK NOW.

Why do we have to go back home!

I traveled with my family of 5....kids aged 9, 11, 14. We had such an incredible time in STT. The home we stayed in accommodated our family nicely. I cannot speak enough to the breath-taking view from this home. From the balcony, we enjoyed seeing sailboats, sea turtles, big fish following bait fish (who were fleeing for the lives!). Julia greeted us at the airport, escorted us to the house and even offered to take us grocery shopping on the way. She went over and above to make sure our stay was perfect! The fresh flowers were appreciated! The kitchen was well stocked. We had plenty of beach towels. The laundry facility was very nice. We felt very at home and are eager to visit again!

Villa Eau Claire is the first house out from the beach directly on the water on Magen Bay. The house is located on Peterborg Road, about a mile from the intersection and about a half mile walk on the sandy bottom of the Bay shore. This is the only condo on Magen Bay with its own beach. Little Magen Beach, which is right next door, is the alternative lifestyle beach on St. Thomas where nude bathing is accepted.

Golf: The Island's only 18 hole golf course, Mahogany Run, is located less than 8 minutes from the Villa. It is a short, but beautiful and challenging course, in a magnificent setting. This is where President Obama and other celebrities play when they are on Island. Some of the holes are located above the Atlantic Ocean, which has taken tens of thousands of balls over the years.
