MOST OFTEN ASKED QUESTIONS: Are you near the beach ? We are located at Banyan Beach so the beach is right beside the building. There are also 4-5 pocket beaches in Kona. I would describe them as about 50 yards in length, some are white sand. Some are white sand and lava rock.
How close is the ocean to the unit ? If you were any closer you would be in a boat. Watch our video and you will see that Banyan Tree sits right on top of the ocean and this unit is located at the closest point to the ocean.
I've been ripped off in Hawaii before, are you real ? I just got ripped off myself at a hotel in Pismo Beach, Ca. last summer so I understand where this is coming from. First off please read our reviews. They are totally controlled by Homeaway and are from actual guests. Don purchased this condo in 2007
Have traveled the Hawaiian islands for years and feel like a tour guide there . When I stayed at Banyan Tree it blew me away and I knew I had to own there. I have'nt seen anywhere in Hawaii that the ocean comes in like it does at Banyan Tree. Poipu Beach on Kauai comes in a close second. The people in Kona are absolutely the friendliest people I have encountered on the islands with the feel of old Hawaii still intact. Kona is my favorite city in Hawaii and in the future Banyan Tree will be my next home.
This place is great! The location is very convenient just south of "town" but not far from anything. The unit is very comfortable and well appointed. If you need a beach chair, it's there. Umbrella, not a problem. Snorkel and mask, yep. I could not believe the view. Every afternoon we watched sea turtles right below the window. In the morning we saw tropical fish swimming in the water from the living room window. This was my favorite trip to the Big Island. Highly recommended !!
This is our sixth vrbo, second in Kona, fourth in the state of Hawaii. This condo is lovely. The location is perfect, the owner is so very easy to deal with, and the communications were excellent. There is a dishwasher but we never used it, it seemed like a waste of electricity when it was faster and easier to do dishes by hand. Washer and dryer in the unit so helpful. Wifi worked well, and we didn't watch tv at all. We loved the ocean at night, and enjoyed watching the surfers during the day. The surfers are very respectful, and many of them leave by night fall, which was no later than 7 pm. The beach is billed as the best surf beach on the big island, and this must be true because the surf competition was held there on our second last day.
The condo is in an excellent location being 35 minutes walk to downtown Kona (go early in the am like 8 or 9) and far enough away to still feel like you are in the country. It is very comfortable, the ceiling fans were a boon, and easy to turn on or off as needed. There's a beautiful cross breeze though if you leave the front screen door open, the master bath window, and the patio windows. Let's just say that I didn't have too much problem with any "hot flashes" even in Hawaii.
The building itself is well maintained, and the majority of units in the building are vrbo. Parking = perfect. No palm trees in front of this unit to block the sunset, or the view of the ocean. We saw lots of whales, swimming and breaching, lots of dolphins - so many that after a few days we felt sorry for them being harassed by all those boats we could see too, running over to where they were and dumping their people in the water like ... well, you get the idea. If that's you on that boat, you need to chill and leave them dolphins alone. The turtles like the three little pools in the front and to the right side of the condo. Look for them around low tide, and in the afternoon. They don't come out of the water.
Thanks Don, for having your condo available to rent, we had such a fabulous time.
We loved staying at the condo. It was a corner condo with superb views of the ocean. An added attraction was Banyan Cove located on the beach next to the condo. Surfers gathered here all day to ride the "big" waves just in front of the living room. We so enjoyed watching them and got to know the individual surfer's moves and abilities.
The description in the listing was on target. The condo and the condo complex was well attended, clean, maintained and very secure. We thoroughly enjoyed having breakfast on the lanai and sitting there during the day "ocean watching."
We enjoy homemade food, so we cooked almost every evening having a well supplied kitchen. Everything was there that we needed.
Don provided us with excellent service and responded immediately when we called to say that something was left behind. He certainly takes care of his renters.
We will recommend this condo to our friends and family, and we would stay there again without hesitation!
this was a very clean and well organized condo rental. The additional items in the kitchen and bedrooms made the stay feel more like our own home than a rental we had for just a week. The provision of beach toys and chairs made our stay even better because we didn't have to waste time going to rent beach items. The Banyon Tree complex was very well maintained and friendly. The pool area was nice especially the two gas grills that were available for use. One note for future visitors to Kona is that the stores like Walmart and Target do not use plastic bags anymore so take your own bags when shopping or be prepared to pay 50 cents a bag
We spent seven nights in this apartment. The best was the wonderful view of the ocean. Because this is an end unit, there are windows and sliding doors on two sides of the living room. It made you feel that you are living in the water. I believe the review written by Cappy from Alberta Canada is true and fair. If you are a light sleeper, please consider the noise from the busy Alli drive. If you can't take heat and humidity well, please consider that the unit has no air condition.
Close to Kona, snorkeling, boogie boarding and relaxing. It was great to come home to the quiet and peaceful sound of the surf. We found a variety of great places to eat, and had lovely barbecue dinners on the lanai. Each evening we'd relax and watch the whales, turtles, and dolphins, and wait for the lovely sunset. We'd recommend this to anyone wanting something other than the usual big commercial resort type vacation. Thank you Don for the useful information you provided to us, and for a lovely home away from home.
