I was born in Detroit in the early 1960's and have lived in the metropolitan Detroit area my entire life - currently living in Farmington Hills which in a suburb of Detroit located in Oakland County. I am an Accountant working in the road construction industry, an avid gardener in my spare time I also enjoy traveling, good wine and great food!
When I began my search for a vacation property I knew I wanted a property that truly had the charm and feel of what I always imagined a 'cottage' to be like. I had always thought that I would end up finding a place in Northern Michigan ('Up North' as we call it) but once I discovered and fell in love with the Saugatuck / Douglas area I knew that this is where I wanted to find a cottage. Since I had a preconceived picture of what I wanted in a cottage I always knew that I would just know in my gut when I found the perfect property. Well after months of searching and not finding that perfect property I was convinced I would have to either change my vision of what a 'cottage' should be or maybe consider other areas. One day in late June 2006 we spent the day at Oval Beach with a good friend of ours who already owned a property in Saugatuck. As we were leaving the beach he mentioned a property on Ferry Street that he wanted to show me but wasn't sure if I'd like it, but thought it was worth taking a look. You can't see the cottage from Ferry Street so we pulled up the gravel driveway. Without even getting out of the car or setting foot inside the place I knew instantly that I found exactly what I was looking for - a classic 1920's cottage! The property was already being run as a vacation rental known as 'The Squeeze Me Inn' so I contacted the owner and expressed my interest in possibly purchasing the property but wanted to see if it was a good fit and arranged a one night rental for the following weekend. As soon as we walked through the doors I was ready to make an offer and was sure there wasn't much that needed to be done to the property. Well I closed on the property and took possession two months later just in time to spend the Labor Day holiday at the cottage. We spent the next year fixing up the place (guess I had blinders on when I looked at the place because it needed a lot of work!). I've got a photo album at the cottage that shows the before & after
