The property is situated between Seneca Point and Carpenters Point, just south of Charlestown. Being on a point results in less through-traffic and, aside from the boats, a very quiet setting. We see abundant wildlife: bald eagles, great blue herons, ospreys, wood ducks, mallards, river turtles, beavers, deer and foxes. We own 19 acres of woods and marsh, and there are another 70 acres adjacent to the property full of wildlife visible by foot or by boat. In warm weather boaters anchor in the shallows to the north to on the weekends, and the nearest home to the north is a 1/2 mile away. Elite anglers have stayed here. During the Revolutionary War, Charlestown was a major supply depot for the Continental Army. Early in the war, a British ship blockading the port was captured and its officers and men marched through the streets of town. In August 1777 the British bombarded the town as a diversionary tactic while General Howe’s troops sailed up the Elk River to land in Elkton.

Our stay at Little River Road

YoungatHeart Philadelphia, Pa
Review Submitted: September 25, 2008 Date of Stay: September 2008
We stayed at Little River Road the weekend of September 20. The house was immaculate, and the view of the river spectacular!
We were 5 girlfriends, gathering for a reunion from 3 different states. We stayed in the upstairs apartment, and with the two balconies there was more than enough room for all of us to roam. There were also more than enough Adirondack chairs for all of us to sit by the shoreline to chat and admire the sail and sports boats going by. It was really quiet and peaceful, something we all needed! The water lapping on the shore was as relaxing as a massage.
Anything you could ever need is provided - washer/dryer, iron/ironing board, full-size fridge, microwave, pots, plates, utensils, comfortable beds and bedding, tvs, stereo, books and binoculars (lots of bird sightings). Much more comfortable than a hotel.
On Saturday evening we had a great seafood meal at Woody's in North East, a 10-15 minute drive. Sunday morning was Waffle House takeout which we ate at a picnic table on the balcony facing the river.
My friends and I had such a great time we are thinking of making our gathering here a yearly event! But after seeing the moonlight shining on the water on a calm Saturday night, I think my husband and I will be back much sooner for a romantic weekend:)
Owner's Response: This was this guest's second stay with us this year. We appreciate the kind words and are working to make our beach house the best rental on the Chesapeake.

Wonderful!

Jason B Falls Church, Virginia, USA
Review Submitted: July 26, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
This is a great house! We wanted to find a place where our two families (including three young children) could spend time together. We were coming from New York City and Washington DC, and this house was perfect.

We rented the entire house for a week and had a wonderful time. The house is clean and well-furnished, and there are lots of activities to keep the kids busy. The kids especially liked playing in the water, fishing, watching the eagles, and chasing fireflies. We also enjoyed exploring antique shops and other sights in the nearby towns. The weather was perfect -- clear skies and full moon. We are so happy we found this house.

We all had a great time and I hope you get to enjoy this home soon!

Perfect Getaway!

Rebekah & Anthony Wynnewood, Pa
Review Submitted: April 26, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
My husband and I have visited this home in June 2008 and April 2009. Both times we experienced nothing but true comfort and relaxation. The first time we stayed in the home we rented the upstairs which had a spacious kitchen and bedroom as well as great views of the river. The front and back decks upstairs were used quite often as we enjoyed the wilderness (which included bald eagles, hawks, mallards and cranes) and the beautiful Chesapeake weather. This latest visit we rented the downstairs which was just as spacious and with the same spectacular views. Regardless of either floor, you are provided absolutely everything you would use in your own home. They have shampoo, food/kitchen supplies, entertainment, laundry supplies, canoes, etc. The only thing you need is yourself and a toothbrush! The home is so clean and comfortable. You can see instantaneously upon your arrival that the owner takes pride in his property and ensures his guests feel right at home. The owner, E.B., treats his guests as if you are family. He invited us to his home and was always available to recommend restaurants and attractions. It is hard to find individuals like this today. We also appreciate the fact that we are allowed to bring our Golden Retriever, Mya, who absolutely adores this home, the water, and the entire community! We enjoy the natural beauty and the very courteous community so much here. The convenience of the private beach that is a few steps away from the back door is wonderful. Many evenings were spent on the adirondack chairs under the stars with our feet in the water next to the bonfire. Even if we are not able to spend a week in this home we have decided we would even come just for the night because we enjoy it so much. It is very difficult to find a place you can call a home away from home, but this is most definitely it! E.B. - thank you so much for sharing your treasure with us! It is truly selfless and it is more than apparent you take pride in making your guests happy! Your kindness and generosity will make memories for many families! There is no other place we want to stay!

Relaxing, with Issues

BmoreCityGirl Baltimore, MD
Review Submitted: March 11, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
My non-profit organization decided at the VERY last minute to extend our board meeting into a weekend retreat. The owner was very accommodating. We drove up at night, which, for a group of young women, I do not necessarily recommend. The roads are extremely dark and the street signs are hard to read. If you have a navigation system, it will be your best friend! The porch is lit up in Christmas lights, so had we known that ahead of time, we would have easily found it initially. (A tip I would give the owner would be to note on the contract/instructions that the mailbox is at the top of the road and that the front porch is adorned in Christmas lights!).

The house is very large and comfortable. The downstairs is more modern than upstairs, but both are quite comfortable. The kitchen is stocked with all of the amenities of home. The view of the river is absolutely GORGEOUS! It is very peaceful and scenic and perfect for reading a book, star/nature gazing or sipping a glass of wine, especially with the waves lapping onto shore.

One negative for me would have to be the neighbors. They had 3 very large dogs that were quite menacing. Apparently they frequent the back yard of this property because there was dog excrement everywhere. It prevented us from doing any type of activity outside on the grass. Since the houses are so close together, I would also suggest that curtains/blinds were added to the windows downstairs. If you are washing dishes or walking/standing around downstairs and the neighbors happen to be outside, (which they or their guests frequently were) they can see you clearly and vice versa. The good news is that there is only one neighbor to deal with. The other side of the house is pure wilderness.

The other negative for me was the check out checklist. I had no problems with some of the items on the list (emptying/replacing trash bags, loading dishwasher, etc.), but I felt some duties were a bit much. If I am on vacation, I do not want to wash/dry towels/sheets, clean/scrub a bathroom, vacuum, etc. Most vacation homes I’ve rented in the past requested I leave the towels/linen in a pile. My extent of clean up was washing dishes and putting them away, emptying trash cans and that’s it.

Overall, we had a pleasant stay and a productive meeting. If a privacy fence was added and some check out requirements were relaxed a bit, I think the future renters will have nothing but positive remarks for this property.
Owner's Response: This was a same-day reservation for which the guest received a 10% discount. As always, instructions regarding the key pickup were given to the reserving guest prior to arrival, along with written directions. I did not receive instructions to send information to any separately arriving guest.

While I found out that our neighbor had taken in two of his son's dogs, I was not aware of that until during this guest's stay. The guests also advised me someone's car got stuck in a wet area, and that the neighbors graciously helped them extricate themselves.

As far as the yard issues, my inspection following this guest's departure revealed that a large group of geese had recently visited our waterfront area. Since I live just up the road, I would have been happy to clean up the offending material had I been advised.

We have used the departure checklist since beginning our rental business in 2007. We are always happy to work with guests who are pressed for time on their departure day. If requested, we can take care of the cleaning and linens for an additional fee, or guests are welcome to bring their own linens. I am pleased they enjoyed themselves despite their issues and hope they will stay with us again.

Awesome birthday experience!

-SJS- Baltimore
Review Submitted: December 20, 2008 Date of Stay: December 2008
We rented the house for my 30th birthday party in December and what an amazing experience. When we arrived, the place was already warm and inviting. There was a fully trimmed Christmas tree and we could tell that the owners put a lot of love into making it feel like a second home and not just a money-making property. A heavy door separates the upstairs unit from the downstairs, making it very easy to cut down the noise of a party while others are sleeping. Also, the fully-equipped kitchen made cooking for a group pretty easy. The views from the balcony and jetty were spectacular; ducks and herons fishing by day, a full moon and superb view of the stars in the evening. No traffic noise either, so it truly felt like a retreat. It is a rare experience to have a fire on the water, let alone a place to have one already available, i.e. fire ring!. During the day, we headed over to the nearby hydroelectric dam and saw many Bald Eagles; we were told by the professional wildlife photographers that this area was the best Bald Eagle spotting place on the East coast. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a nice getaway that's not too far from the Baltimore/DC area. Thumbs way up!!
