Photos and Description of the Ixtapa vacation castle rental 3 Bedrms, 6 baths, natural deep pool, shallow infinity pool, medieval antiques

Perched on a cliff above Ixtapa Bay, The Sand Castle offers an unparalleled 300 degree view of the ocean, beach and islands, the city of Ixtapa, and the nearby mountains. It is simply the finest view in the state of Guerrero. Furnished throughout with medieval antiques, you step back in time and live as no king or queen could ever have dreamed. It is not just our home, but an architectural sculpture---a photographer's delight at every turn. But above all, it is a house of peace. A natural waterfall enters the master's bathing chamber and winds through the center of the house and cascades in to the deep pool. Sunny and shaded verandas are found throughout the house, culminating at a roof garden and private pool. A professional 6-burner stove with grill and ovens awaits your culinary passions. A gondola ski lift ferries you down to the beach or up to El Faro, Ixtapa's finest restaurant. As part of Pacifica Resort, the Castle offers every amenity any hotel guest could expect.

Location: Mexico

Car: not necessary
Ixtapa is a safe and secure tourist city created by the Mexican government. Almost everything is within walking distance. An ultra modern supermarket is a short taxi ride away. Ixtapa's state of the art cinema offers the latest Hollywood releases with Spanish subtitles. 2 world class golf courses await, as does the dolphinarium where you can swim with dolphins. But above all, a haven of peace envelopes you the moment you enter The Sand Castle. Pacifica, a gated resort that surrounds the Castle, offers every amenity from a full range of massages to a beach-side pool with restaurant and bar, or, if you prefer, waiters will attend your every need at your personal beach palapa. Many of our guests, however, find that they seldom leave the exquisite privacy afforded by the Castle. It is something you will have to experience to understand.

Notes: Our experience has been that children under 21 are at risk of injury at the Castle. I have personally had to prevent excited teenagers from jumping into the deep pool from the roof garden. We have decided to limit the house to responsible adults who will treat the Castle with respect. The floors of the Castle are made up of large flag stones from a mountain quarry near Guatamala. The stones are uneven and contain grooves between them. For this reason, we ask that high heels not be worn while in the Castle. Additionally, you will note that many of the balconies are framed by heavy chains which have been welded to posts. We ask you not to lean against these chains since their welds are under continuous attack by salt-laden tropical air. We have never had a weld fail, but remain continuously aware of the possibility and ask you to do so too. Finally, we will supply liquid soap to be used in every room. We ask that bar soap not be used---it can clog the pipes beneath the stones.

The Deep Pool: The deep pool is 13 feet deep. It was created when we first dynamited the stone cliff---a single charge left a fabulous stone-sided bowl that we decided to keep as the edge of a deep pool. We went on to construct platforms at the Master and Lower Princess levels from which a person can jump into the deep pool. The Master platform is 22 feet off of the water, the Princess, 10 feet. Use of these platforms is a real hoot, but it involves risk. Absolutely No Diving Into The Pool From Any Location!!!** When using a platform, simply Step out toward The Center Of The Pool. If you Jump outward, you risk overshooting the center of the pool and hitting the submerged lip of a ledge that surrounds the pool. Always warn swimmers below that you intend to jump---we yell out, 'Incoming!'. This will prevent others from swimming into the area where you will be landing. Use of the platforms can be a lot of fun, but they must be used with safety as the first concern. Pool use is at your own risk

Pacifica Resort: The Castle is located in a residential section of Pacifica Resort. You will be entitled to all of the services and activities available to every resort guest. This includes use of the gondola ski lift which can take you down to the beach, or up to El Faro Restaurant. You may wish to check in with the resort at their reception desk ('Recepcion') and find out when their orientation takes place (usually Saturday afternoon) which will give you a run-down on everything they offer, or you can ask the desk what is available---much of the activities are listed on the board at reception. The resort has a large pool next to the beach, and individual palapas (palm-leaf umbrellas), with waiters who will wait upon your every need. The resort rents snorkel equipment and 'boogy boards' for use in the surf. Snorkeling is quite nice from the left edge of the beach toward the first island. Crocodiles come up the lagoon to be fed by the resort each afternoon--they are fenced off from the beach.

Marcelo and Dalia: I guarantee that you will come to love our resident caretakers, Marcelo and Dalia. They have been with us now for 10 years. They live in the servants' quarters just to the left of the main entrance. Dalia will be making your bed each day and plumping up the feather mattresses. However, we have instructed her not to touch your personal things, so no one is going to pick up after you. She will be doing the dishes after each meal, but don't ask her to cook for you---Marcelo says she is a terrible cook. For valuables, Pacifica offers lock-boxes at the reception. Neither Marcelo nor Dalia speak any English. It has taken them 10 years to manage a fractured, 'Good Morning'. We will leave a list of normal questions (ie. 'More ice please'). Simply say, 'taxi', and Marcelo will call for a cab. If a question is not on the list, try charades. Marcelo has had 10 years experience deciphering Gringo facial expressions and hand gestures. As a last resort, a Spanish dictionary is available.

This was a fairy tale come true... A castle in the sky! This castle deserves the notiriety it will get should The Architectural Digest publish its edition on the 10 most unique homes in the world. Very romantic for just the two of us; however we are already planning a second trip to bring our children and relatives to enjoy with us next year. Incredible views, gorgeous sunsets every night. Wonderful infinity pools with waterfalls makes this a destination that can be enjoyed by all ages. This property is very clean and well maintained with very kind caretakers who attend to your every need. Ixtapa is well known to be one of the best resorts in Mexico.
The castle although located near the top of the mountain has easy access to the beach. Gondolas take you down directly to the beach and pools at the resort below. There is excellent security and we felt very safe.

We mostly ate out for breakfast and dinner, and for lunch we enjoyed cheese and wine that we picked up at El Commercial in Zihuatanejo. One could easily use the gourmet kitchen facilities to cook in, but we loved the restaraunts. Some great ones include: El Faro, El galeon, Casa Moralos, Casa Vieja, Caprichos, Raffaelo.

The owner is a joy to work with.

This is an opporunity of a life time that you will talk about forever!

An Amazing Castle

Review Submitted: April 3, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
Mexican Riviera vacation dream come true! This castle is a piece of art and history melded into a luxuriously relaxing week of pleasure. All facilities, from bedrooms to kitchen to pools to roof top garden to caretakers Marcello and Dahlia made every day a paradise. A leisurely walk to Ixtapa for dinner or a $6 taxi ride to the fishing village of Zihuatenejo added great adventure. The 2 minute gonodola ride dropped us at the white sands and bathtub temperature ocean waters of Ixtapa Beach. Whether you are a couple or a small group of friends, this home with it's breathtaking 360 degree views makes for the vacation of a lifetime. As you can see from the photos, every detail is designed and hand crafted by true artists. The stone and iron work, painting and design make this an exceptional experience. Of course, it didint' hurt that we caught a 400 pound Black Marlin as well!

Unsurpassed Beauty

We rented the "castle" for a getaway, with friends, to celebrate our 40th birthdays. "Castle" is not an exaggeration! This place is amazing!!!!!! We enjoyed hanging by the pool all day, cooking in the gourmet kitchen and taking short (and inexpensive) trips to town. Not recommended for teens or kids.....it's really an adult paradise!
The staff, Marcelo and Dalia, are super. You don't know they're there until you need them and they keep the property pristine.
The owner, Richard, is a gem. Very caring and communicative. No problems there at all.
We enjoyed heading in to Zihuantenejo for shopping and restaurants and found things very inexpensive, in comparison to other resort areas in Mexico.
We are planning to return for a reunion in 2110!
