This peaceful area is just a few miles from the shopping (including outlets), dining and activities of Nags Head, Jockey's Ridge State Park, Kill Devil Hills, Wright Brothers monument, Kitty Hawk, Southern Shores, Duck, Corolla, Roanoke and Hatteras Islands. Visit the local lighthouses (Currituck, Bodie Island and Hatteras) or take the ferry to Ocracoke Island to re-live Blackbeard's adventures! South Nags Head:
South Nags Head begins at milepost 17, commonly known as Whalebone Junction, where the roads leading to Hatteras and Roanoke Islands converge, forming the shape of a whale. The area is a long ribbon of homes bordered by the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Old Oregon Inlet Road, which takes you along the oceanside, has a paved multi-use path paralleling the road, which makes a terrific area for walking, biking, running and rollerblading.
