Location- Location-Location! Modern Cottage Enjoy breathtaking views of Martha's Vineyard and Cuttyhunk Island as well as panoramic views of the coastal countryside and South Shore/Goosewing Beach.

Enjoy lazy or adventurous days at South Shore and Goosewing Beach (the beach was recently named one of the top 5 beaches in New England by a Boston Magazine). The beaches are approximately a 5 minute walk. There is also a private lane away to the ocean in front of the house.

Other local beaches - Newport Beach and Horseneck (MA State Beach) is approximately 35 minutes away.

Local Attractions: If you are in the mood for something more metropolitan travel to Newport to visit the Mansions of Bellevue Avenue or shop at the local boutiques. Newport has boat tours, museums, fine dining and entertainment. There are several vineyards and breweries located in Rhode Island and nearby Westport MA. It is always a lovely time take a day and enjoy the new flavors of the season. Providence is also a short drive away and provides a unique Italian pizazz that can only be found on Federal Hill. Providence has upscale shopping, dining and entertainment.

Other Attractions: The Art Cafe! For all of you who must have a cup of Java in the morning then you must visit the little coffee shop located in the center of town. Judy brews the best coffee and she always has fresh muffins, quiche's, bagels and she also makes espresso and cappuccinos, mmmmm....

A walk with nature - Little Compton and the surrounding area has several nature conservancy walking and biking trails. The trails are clearly marked and are a lot of fun with children. There is freshwater fishing in the ponds and streams (Wilbur's Woods is great for trout) or you can try your luck with the Striper! The stripers run in the spring and the fall right in front of our house. People travel great lengths to catch the Striper as they make the biannual run North towards Cape Cod and then back again!

More to do...: Surfing and Kite Boarding- people come from all over New England to Surf our Coast. We please ask if you surf to respect the private property of our neighbors and use the private lane ways, beaches or town landing areas.

Ice Cream, Ice Cream - Everyone must stop at Gray's Ice Cream for a treat. Whether you fancy a banana split or a sorbet they have the perfect flavor for you. Gray's has won best ice cream in RI for the last several years! And don't forget to say hi to the cows!

If you fancy to venture out even farther the house is only 1 hour and 15 minutes from Cape Cod.

We spent 4 weeks at this lovely home (the first week of July and then 3 weeks beginning mid-July). Upon our arrival, we found the home was spotless, decor lovely, and the house well-appointed. The view is fantastic and the walk to the beach an easy stroll. When we turned on the television, we were pleasantly surprised to find a "more than basic" line-up of stations including HBO and HBO on-demand.

It's true that the only access from the first floor to the main level (2nd floor) was via the exterior staircase, but it did not prove to be an inconvenience. Our children are young adults and they were with us intermittently over the three weeks. They liked having a room downstairs away from their early rising parents. For us, the house expanded appropriately when we needed it to do so.

Surprised to read the other reviewers comments about the landlord. We found the owners responsive and pleasant. for example, when we ran out of propane cooking dinner one evening (around 7:30pm), the owner brought over a replacement within minutes. This was consistent throughout our stay.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend this cottage. It was just the seaside escape we wanted!

DO NOT Rent..

Property was super misleading and NOT well maintained at all!

Difficult homeowner...at one point we were told not her contact her as she was out of town on vacation! We were told to deal with her husband who was in town. More than 6 calls and multiple text messages were needed. Homeowner was IMPOSSIBLE to get a hold of.


Issues included:
1.Upstairs & downstairs of property was only connected by an outside staircase
2.Second bedroom was in the garage; second bath had a shower curtain as a door
3.Two adults and one young child had to all sleep in one bedroomn due to the bedroom issue mentioned above
4. Front door smashed (when we arrived) taped with duct tape; super big safety issue particualrly with a young child!
5.Landline phone did not work
6.Front door handle fell off regularly throughout the week
7.Hallway light (outside of bathroom) did not work
8.House smoke detectors were missing
9.House was 80+ degrees when we arrived at Sat @ 4pm
10.Trash was not picked up until Tues after repeated requests; suppose to be picked up on Sun. Stench was terrible!
11.Loss of cable & internet on Wed am; not restored after repeated calls to homeowner until a "homeowner payment" was received as per cable company inquiry call
12.Contact numbers in property info book were invalid...all of them!
13.Flies & cobwebs in main room; poor cleaning job

On a scale of 1-10 this property for us was a 1 at best. While location and the view was excellent, the house was not in acceptable shape for what we rented it for and more importantly, repeated calls and text messages were NOT responded to appropriately. Homeowner was SUPER difficult to deal with!
Owner's Response: Trouble from the start -upon arrival and were rude to the cleaning staff who were leaving the home. Homeaway’s policy is to post ALL reviews-they do not verify validity. We have been renting for 5 seasons & this is our 1st review/complaint. We are very sad. We built this home for the purpose of opening it up to renters & the appreciation is slinging false accusations and trying to ruin our reputation. We dont need to rent our home, but we want other people to be able to enjoy it as we do. Owner/Manger Kyle Welchman, built this home in 2008. It is not run down cottage. We live on the street & are the onsite mangrs. I want to assure you we are available 24/7. Our Cell #’s are listed on lease 2x, in the house binder and we leave business cards. Upon arrival tenants sent messages & repeated txts, stated the house was HOT. The house is not advertised with AC. I offered to have an A/C brought over. I also let them know I was out of town &all calls should be directed to Kyle. When Kyle arrived at the house w/ A/C he was told they did not want it. 1.Trash is removed on Sat & upon request. 2. 2nd bedroom is a suite, w/ lavette, curtain for privacy. 1st level bedroom has a queen & bunk beds 3. House is cleaned weekly by a prof. cleaning co. If you are not satisfied with cleaning let us know and we will have it fixed 4. Front Door: - a lovely couple a few weeks prior smashed the door, which is a special order Anderson 400 Series. A sales rep was called in to inspect the door for safety & reorder. It was secured with tape. It took 3 weeks to come in & is now FIXED. 5Telephone -Lease states NONE. 6.light–bulb replaced. 7Smokes:the previous renter must have taken them down. It is fixed. 8Cable: the area lost power, which made the cable box fritz. The tenant knew the cable was not working in the AM and they didn't call until they returned from the beach. They called and texted 6 times, emailed twice, called my brokerage firm& my assistant all in 40 minutes. They never once called Kyle. Cox cable fixed in 15 minutes. I received a call from Paul two hours later who arrogantly demanded the cable be fixed, it had been fixed an prior. No apology. I asked he not address any calls to brokerage or myself. I reminded him I was out of town & to call Kyle &gave cell # again. In parting you now have both sides of the story. I hope you consider our property. We take pride in excellent service and go out of our way to meet our tenants needs
