We had a glorious family vacation week on St. John, made all the better by our stay at Villa Beija Flor. The view was amazing! We ( 4 adult couples, one with a 3 year old) were very comfortable in our own rooms with private baths... ( a small folding cot was provided and perfect for the little one). We loved relaxing and having meals on the decks, (and being able to cook them ourselves when we wanted ) and being able to leave the doors open to the breezes. The décor is beautiful and has a definite "island" feel...but we did have to do some simple "childproofing" .....just moving valuable items out of reach of little fingers...and devising a "barrier" between the upper deck and the stairs to the lower deck/pool area...neither of which were real problems. The location was great....far enough away from the noise/commotion of downtown, but not so far away as to prevent us from exploring 6 beautiful beaches! (although driving up and down the hills...especially on the left side of the road took some getting used to). Definitely need your own vehicle to get around...we rented jeeps on St. Thomas and took the car barge with no problem. We had a wonderful time!!!
We stayed June 8-15, 2014 with a group of 5: a couple, a single dad, and his 18-yr and 15-yr old kids. The property manager did a great job, everything expected of him - no complaints there. The Villa itself is beautiful and for the most part, nicely equipped. Things we loved: Great location, only 5 minutes from a grocery store. The big bay doors and the deck on the upper floor, which let in the breezes. The view from the upper deck was awesome, a full view of Fish Bay. We saw sharks and sea turtles from the deck, as well as iguanas below and in the trees adjacent to the deck. The pool was a great place to float and cool off and have a rum drink - we used it a lot. The bedrooms well-cooled with the individual A/C units, were roomy and the bathrooms were beautiful and well-designed for vacation renters. The supplied beach towels, beach chairs, and coolers were completely adequate for our needs. The supplied washer and dryer worked great and were very handy for allowing us to bring minimal clothing and wash it multiple times while at the Villa. Things we didn't love so much: the entertainment setup in the living room needs a complete upgrade/overhaul. The TV is small and fuzzy, and does not connect to the audio system. The old amplifier, although quality for it's day, does not have a headphone jack input, so there was no way to attach a phone or MP3 player to it. The supplied iPod dock only accepts iPhone4 and older connections. The owner could spend about $2K and get that upgraded to a modern setup and vastly improve the experience. The beds in the lower floor need replacing. They are pushed-together twin beds and they are very poor. One of them slanted to one side. The headboards were not attached and would bang against the wall when you moved in the bed - we just moved them out of the way. The kitchen knives are mostly useless - dull and old. The freezer would not consistently/adequately freeze items. The oven cooked very slowly, and the burners on the top were so weak that we were unable to boil water for pasta. Owner could/should buy new appliances and a good knife set, and it would make the kitchen a lot better. The supplied binoculars were very nice, but small and of weak magnification - a bigger or second set would be helpful. The wi-fi was consistent but slow - maybe spending $100 on a modern router would help. As a summary, we enjoyed our week at Beija Flor, but without the suggested upgrades, we would choose another Villa on a return trip.
4 couples from their 30s to 50s shared this villa over Thanksgiving week. It met all of our needs. It had 4 nice bedrooms each with its own bath, a big living room, a full kitchen, and a laundry room. The views were amazing from both the upper and the lower decks! The pool was very refreshing. The house came with coolers, beach chairs, and beach towels. There were plenty of chairs and tables and lounges on the decks.
The house was a short drive to Cruz Bay and had access to a private beach nearby. Mark, from the management company was really helpful. He met us at the car barge and allowed us early check in and late check out since he didn't have new guests coming in right away. We were all really happy with this house. We had such a great time on St.John. The island is pristine and the beaches are incredible. I was so sad to leave! The only good news is that I know I will return again!
We stayed here in Aug 2008 - 2 families: 4 adults, 4 kids 6-17 years old. It was great. The mahogany doors (like 6-pair) in the great room all swing wide open so the veranda and living room are like one, with plenty of air. The view is great day and night. Kids slept downstairs (no indoor stair) in 2 suites, so they could get away from noise to sleep and the rest could stay up (and vice versa in the AM). We were concerned a little about that separation, but the villa is very private and there are plenty of locks. We were very comfortable, even the women. (There's a loft over the kitchen they could have slept in, but it's real hot up there and no one went there). The veranda was absolutely great - huge, stone tile floors and nice outdoor furniture. Fruity rum drinks in the outdoor breezes while the kids swim and others play chess at the table - with music going through the whole house. Very luxurious place overall. Good location, though we wish it was a bit closer to the beach (but it's no worse than anyplace else). If Ditlief Point is still open, can drive there or take a 20-25-min hot walk back and forth. Nice beach and snorkeling there (it's underrated). Easy to drive everywhere else, in terms of St John driving at least. You can get 2+ cars in the driveway, but backing out is a challenge first time (the road is steep). Pool is smallish and quite warm, but it was a welcome respite for all several times a day. The 'outdoor showers' (they're really kind of indoors) were way cool, and big. The entryway was nice and big for the sandy stuff, and the coolers and chairs provided by the house were useful. Everything we needed for cooking, laundry, TV, music, etc. was there. The a/c in the bedrooms worked great. WiFi internet worked fine except when there was a storm (it was the island not the house), but that's the islands mon.
