|Minimum Stay||2 nights|
This enchanting, A-Frame, Mountain Chalet in the North Carolina High Country of Deep Gap is in the darling, gated, community of Powder Horn Mountain. Located between Boone & Blowing Rock, near the Blue Ridge Parkway, off Elk Creek Rd. Paved roads await you, until you enter the short, gravel driveway of the Tree Haus! See a few more pictures on the alternate web site: vacationrentals by clicking on Blue Ridge, Boone and then The Tree Haus.
The Tree Haus, cozy enough for 2, but roomy enough for the family, offers 3 floors with 3 decks to watch the deer roam. Do you like to cook? The kitchen is very large and fully stocked with pots, pans, crock pot, electric skillet, micro, nice dinner place settings... just bring the food and maybe your favorite spices! Powder Horn has awesome hiking trails throughout yet is a beautiful drive to many day trips & adventures! The nearby Clubhouse (1/2 mile walk or drive) has a pool big enough for lap swimming, air hockey, ping pong & more.
Wondering what you can do while staying with us: Here is a quote from MSN City Guides article: 'America's 10 Best Outdoor Towns' regarding Boone: 'The tallest mountain in the East lies ....near Boone, NC. It's 6,684-foot Mount Mitchell, a centerpiece of the Pisgah National Forest and Blue Ridge Mountains, whose valleys hide hip little hiking towns like this one. Appalachian State University attracts outdoorsy students to Boone, where you're as likely to find a latte (Espresso News) as a low-key country restaurant with fried chicken (Dan'l Boone Inn). Paddlers hit the Nolichucky and French Broad Rivers for Class III and IV rapids (Mountain Adventure Guides, Erwin, Tenn.) while mountain bikers wheel along the 18-Mile Ride (Magic Cycles)..... even in the summer, temperatures remain refreshingly cool.'
There are 4 Ski Resorts (Appalachian, Hawksnest, Sugar & Beech), Grandfather Mtn, Christmas Tree Farms, Tweetsie Railroad, Horn in the West Outdoor Drama Theatre, Merle Fest, Fly Fishing, Golfing (Boone Golf Course, Hawks Tail & others),...all within 20-60 minute drives. You will NOT get bored, unless you want to be bored!!

We love the best of both worlds... city and country. Come stay at The Tree Haus and you won't want to leave either!! Whether we're sitting on the decks enjoying the mountain sounds and wildlife or hitting the nearby communities of Boone & Blowing Rock for culture and shopping, we are captivated by the freedom each day brings! We decorated in a whimsical, family friendly style and enjoy sharing it with our guests, many of whom have rented more than once!! Come visit, you'll be glad you did!!
Ken & Sally Washio purchased this chalet in 2005
We set out to find a place to kick back and relax. The Tree Haus has it all! Located on beautiful, safe, gated, Powder Horn Mountain. There is wildlife galore, hiking trails, a nearby college town, art & music festivals, Christmas Tree farms, Ski resorts, white water rafting, antique shops .... the list goes on and on!!! It's perfect, It's heaven!
You can hike down our driveway on an old logging trail to the nearby creek. Follow the creek to a swimming hole, with loads of slippery rocks for the kids. Another nearby trail is an easy hike to an old 'still'. There are simulated vats of the actual still that once existed below the big, flat rock you stand on once there. (You need to take the short trail to your right along the creek to see the still). Drive the Blue Ridge, fish, raft, shop, BBQ, do nothing.... it's all GOOD!!
Our guest book journal is full of wonderful & amusing comments of Tree Haus adventures! Please add yours before leaving, for the enjoyment of guests who follow. Reading the journal is the 1st thing we do each time we arrive!!
We love that you have such great memories & are willing to share them!
Please come again!
Love, Sally & Ken
We stayed for three nights and wish it was longer. The Tree Haus was an excellent venue for our vacation. It is very quiet in a location that is within a nature setting. It is fully equipped with everything we could have asked for including a coffee maker, DVDs, board games, trail maps, and pots/pans/plates, etc. The owners are extremely responsive and helpful. We hope to get the chance to visit again soon.
- Quiet and far enough away from city life while still being only a 30+min drive away from downtown Boone
- large (three stories!) with foosball table, board games and cable/dvd player for late night family movies. Quite ideal for kids of all ages (I work in pediatrics) even our infant daughter.
- nice hiking trails all around (easy to moderate)
- close proximity to lake (fishing permitted), creek and communal lodge that has a pool, pool tables and ping pong tables. Very friendly atmosphere!
- owners are VERY welcoming and do a fantastic job at making the check-in a check-out as idiot proof as possible. Thank you!
- a little tricky to get to (but very detailed instructions from owners make this less of an issue)
- closer to other houses then expected, but far enough away to allow for personal privacy
- in the thicket of the woods, so not a great view of mountains, but easily a short drive from the parkway
Over-all: Very good experience! Would certainly recommend for family's or couples looking for romantic get-away
This house is impeccable and very well furnished. 120% cozy and located deep into the woods. I am glad we were able to stay at the tree haus and I am sure we all never forget about it.
This is the 4th year we have rented a cabin to attend a App game (daughter is now a senior) and have a little mini vacation. I have to say this is the best yet! The kitchen was so well equipped that I did not need some things I had brought! The house was very clean and plenty of space for all with privacy I might add. It is a very peaceful and calming place and we particularly liked that we could walk out the door for a hike vs having to drive somewhere. Our daughter took such a sweet photo of a doe and her two fawns that were in the yard that we sent to Sally and Ken. I hope that we will be able to return sooner rather than later! Thank you for sharing your wonderful cabin!
My sisters and I took our mother to this cabin to celebrate her 86th birthday in October. The cabin was just lovely and even though my mom has limitations, she was able to enjoy it fully! We were very close to Boone and Blowing Rock and enjoyed shopping and driving the parkway. The cabin was well appointed with all we needed as we cooked dinner and breakfast and enjoyed the peace and quiet and the freshness of the mountain air. Just lovely!
My friend and I rented the Tree Haus based on positive reviews and were not disappointed! In fact, I was so impressed with the house, and its owners, that I decided to rent it again as a Christmas gift for my parents. The house, located in a nice, gated community, is very clean and welcoming. As another reviewer mentioned, everything you need, except for your food, is provided at the home. The information packet we received from the owners was accurate and very helpful. Our only disappointment was that we didn't have more time to stay! I highly recommend The Tree Haus if you are looking for a quiet place to stay in the Boone area.
