The Makaha Valley Towers are located in the majestic Makaha Valley on the sunny side of Oahu. Local Beaches: The world famous Makaha Surf Beach was home to the first organized surf meet in Hawaii in the 1950´s. With huge waves in the winter months, and a huge community of 'regular' surfers, Makaha is excellent for summer snorkeling, sunbathing, and surfing. Makua and Yokohama Bays, at the extreme northwestern tip of the island, are two of Oahu´s few completely unspoiled, uncrowded beaches. Concierge.com´s review of Hawaii´s top beaches mentions Yokohama Bay. The nearby Ko Olina Marriott Resort and Disney's Aulani Resort are located by four man-made lagoons that are completely protected from waves and currents, perfect for families with young children. The resort is beautifully landscaped and maintained, all the beaches are open to the public.
Dining: The Makaha Valley Country Club is open for breakfast and lunch. The Sunset Cafe is an open air, casual restaurant, located at the Army Recreation Facility in Waianae. It is situated right on the beach with amazing sunsets. The restaurant is open for dinner every evening with live music and dancing Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights and karaoke Monday thru Thursday. They are open for breakfast and lunch on week-ends. Taco’s and More serves authentic Mexican food with live music on Thursday nights and is a local favorite. It is located on Farrington Hwy in Waianae. A Starbucks and Jamba Juice are located at the Waianae Mall.
Leeward Oahu: Makaha is located approximately 15 miles from Kapolei and 40 miles from Honolulu/Waikiki on the west coast of Oahu. Despite the close physical proximity, it takes approximately 25 minutes to get to Kapolei and around an hour to get to Honolulu. Many of the roads on the Leeward Coast are still small highways with lowered speed limits. Makaha´s nearest neighbor is Waianae. Makaha has a population of approximately 8,000 and Waianae´s population is approximately 10,000. Kapolei is the nearest major town and is quickly growing into a bustling city. Already called Oahu´s 'Second City' (second only to the capital of Honolulu), Kapolei is a carefully planned mixture of commercial spaces, housing, government buildings, and parks. A Costco, Target, Ross, K-Mart, Movie Theater, Safeway Grocery Store, Long's Drug Store, and numerous small shops and many restaurants are all located in Kapolei.
The Makaha Valley is Oahu's best kept secret. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, Makaha is the place for you. The beautiful Waianae Beaches are perfect for complete relaxation, just sleep or read one of the great books we provide. Makaha Surf Beach is 1 mile straight down the road, and is famous for world class surfing. If you want more activity you can scuba (the Makaha Caverns are awesome), snorkel, hike, or rent bikes, kayaks and water sports equipment down the road (see www.halenalu.com for it's Waianae location and rental prices). The Makaha Valley Country Club Is less than a mile away. The golf course is known for it's beauty as much as it's rigor and offers breakfast and lunch in a relaxed atmosphere.
