Vista del Monte (View of the Mountain) is a totally private - walled and gated authentic 1940's Spanish hacienda home.

The property has been totally renovated and includes all modern conveniences. The attention to authenticity, comfort and detail is rarely found in a rental property.

The home evokes the romance of early Palm Springs and the history of early California ranches.

The home was restored by San Francisco-based designers' Candra Scott and Anderson. The firm specializes in the restoration of landmark hotels and properties throughout the world.

The home has been published appeared in the book PALM SPRINGS LIVING.

The completely refurbished property contains original period pieces. Furnished with authentic vintage pieces from the time; Monterey, Del Rey, Karpen, and early Navajo rugs. The original wrought iron light fixtures and original art create an atmosphere that is unique and distinctive. Vintage decorative tiles from the Victorville Armory have been used throughout the kitchen, bathrooms, and exterior fountains.

The property has three bedrooms (one king, one queen, and two twin beds) and wonderfully appointed bathrooms that include complementary Molton-Brown bath products.

The property is large enough to sleep six, yet intimate enough for a romantic hideaway for two. The backyard invites one to lounge underneath grape covered arbors, relax in the saline pool, or enjoy playing a lively game of Bocce on the regulation size (10' x 60' court).

Perfect Desert Retreat

Our vacation at Palm Springs was just fantastic! What really made the trip so special was staying a Vista del Monte. This beautiful retreat was so comfortable and welcoming. We spent hours enjoying the amazing warm pool and lush courtyard. We were fascinated by the variety of cacti and we are on first name basis with the humming birds! The house was perfect for us and we appreciate the genuine and tasteful decor. You can tell that a lot of hard work and love went into the restructuring and design of this house! My personal favorite is the beautiful wood sideboard with the charming lamp, bear statue and the framed flag. The statue of St. Francis in the garden is delightful. The artwork and decorative detail throughout the house and courtyard was outstanding! Our daughter especially liked waking and falling asleep to the sound of the fountain outside her window. This home set the stage for a perfect family vacation.

The house is well situated, just a short drive to the eclectic shops and restaurants on Palm Canyon Drive. Here you will also find some awesome home décor stores. Access to great hiking trails and the tram to Mt. San Jacinto was a breeze! Vista del Monte’s poolside view of the mountain is spectacular.

As experienced VRBO clients, we cannot overstate how impressed we were and how appreciative we are with owner Brandon’s attentive care and hospitality. It is abundantly evident that this is his home and not just a rental property. We also want to thank the property manager, Cliff (such a gentleman!) for his warm welcome and care throughout our stay.

We will definitely return and look forward to staying at this Desert Retreat!

Surprise ending

The home itself, during our stay, warrants a four star rating. However the customer service received after the stay overshadows this rating with two stars. The home is authentically decorated and has been updated with some 21st century comforts. It feels safer with the fenced and gated property. The landscaping is beautiful. I highly recommend heating the pool in order to enjoy early morning and evening swims. The property manager was receptive to the request for more towels, toilet paper, and linens, and overall dirty floors and dust bunnies under chairs, dressers, and sideboard. The homeowner never addressed our complaint about the BBQ (not fully operational with a missing knob). Unfortunately my experience after the stay has become very unpleasant. After we were not afforded the opportunity for a walk-thru upon check-out, my security deposit became a target; we had two children on this vacation, also it seems an offense was taken to a comment from one party to the other. After this things turned malicious, including making false accusations. This has been a sad set of circumstances for me as I pride myself in excellent communication, professionalism, honesty and an experienced VRBO renter. One example, we have been accused of tampering with all of the homeowner's locked cabinets, which is absurd. I received a 7 page letter and half of my security deposit. Every tiny offense was put under a microscope. We were even charged for a wood band that popped off from the underside of an old chair; hopefully for the next guests this was caused by a broom sweeping under it for dust bunnies. I will never know how it went so wrong, all I can do is find peace in the truths that I know and share some advice. If you choose to rent: Consider VRBO insurance. And participate in a very thorough walk-thru upon check-in and check-out. If in doubt, report any deficiencies, concerns, damages, and cleanliness concerns immediately; stop enjoying your vacation, and report immediately no matter how trivial, otherwise you too could receive a letter stating what I received, “I find it quite suspect that an onslaught of issues were documented post departure and only after you learned that I would be withholding part of your security deposit.” Lastly, stay accountable to one another in your party, even if one of you has stayed there before, you're in it together no matter how differing your styles. Trust and credibility shouldn't be taken lightly. Let's be good to one another.

Owner's Response: Vista del Monte’s abundance of stellar five star reviews speaks of the exemplary service we provide our guests to ensure their comfort and enjoyment. Unfortunately this guest and her party were disrespectful, destructive and unhygienic. Interestingly, her complaints were revealed only AFTER she learned that portion of her deposit was being withheld due to the following reasons: Broken glass window - Destruction of furniture - Deep cleaning and sterilization. She neglects to mention that her party, violated the terms of the rental agreement, which would have caused her immediate evection if discovered during her stay. Her vengeful review is clearly a result of her taking no responsibility for her negligence. Otherwise, we wouldn’t have received the following text messages during her stay: “… Love the place. Perfect weather. My sister and family love the place….” In fact they enjoyed their stay so much, we received the following text message requesting an extension for another night: “Hey is this place booked Friday night?” Quite a different experience than she expressed in this venue.

Every detail of Vista Del Monte was perfect. You could tell that the owner takes great pride in the property. And as wonderful and authentic as the inside was, the back pool area was even better. From the cactus garden, to the pool, to the bocce ball court, you felt as if you had been transported to another world.

The master bath even had bathrobes. How thoughtful!!!

The owner even called shortly after our arrival to make sure everything was to our liking. It's kindnesses like these that make for a perfect stay. Thank you!!!!!

What a class act. It was decadent to have to myself so had some friends fly in to share. Secure, away from the hub bub of downtown but five minutes and you're there. The historic sense of the place was wonderful without sacrificing anything. Call me when the hot tub gets added!

Home away from home

Our family of four just concluded a short stay (3days/4nights) at Vista Del Monte. This was our first experience at renting a home, having stayed over the years at different levels of hotels in the Palm Springs area. It was such a relaxing, enjoyable experience that we are already talking about next year! To wake up and not have to worry about hotel issues such as housekeeping, paying for over-priced breakfasts, trudging down hallways, elevators, etc., resulted in a much more quality visit.

About the property. It's a Spanish Revival styled house built in the 40's. It's laid out in a U-shape with the main and twin bedroom and bath on one side, and the queen bedroom with another bathroom on the other. The living area is between along with a very well appointed kitchen and small dining room. The pool area was sensational. Roomy, with areas of shade and sun all day. Ample lounges and chairs and a wonderful barbecue area. There were even fruit trees (grapefruit, lemon) that were ripe and deliciously sweet (they even had a juicer in the cabinet). The real kicker were the furnishings. The property was decorated with early California furnishings: vintage rugs, furniture, light fixtures. Much tile work throughout. There were even old scrapbooks (my favorite was the one that contained old recipes). It made for a very cozy and warm environment.

The manager, Cliff, was very helpful on check in and check out. He made the process easy and helped us with security codes and was available all hours.

The property is a short drive from downtown, located just east of the Tramway Visitor's Center. It is on a busy street, but once inside the gate and the very private walls you wouldn't know except for the very occasional truck horn or siren. All in all we had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend the home.
