This architecturally unique home set in the quaint Gordon beach section of Union Pier offers you a home away from home. The decor is in warm woods and relaxing hues that make it easy for you to unwind and forget the pile of mail you left behind. The home is set on a triple lot only a short walk to a private association beach on the shore of Lake Michigan. The owners took a page out of Pottery Barn and then added their personal touch to make sure you have comfortable furnishings and all the amenities you desire for your stay. Interesting antique pieces, found at local haunts, accent the rooms and eclectic art pieces make the interior special. Forty-two windows bathe the home in light and when temperatures drop the wood burning fireplace can be stoked with the ample pile of wood made available to you. No expense was spared in equipping the kitchen allowing you to entertain guests with pride as you prepare a gourmet meal or serve them a glass of wine in a crystal glass.

Nearest Airport: south bend regional airport at 35 Miles
Nearest Train: Amtrak at 5 Miles
Nearest Motorway: 94 at 2 Miles

Notre Dame football games make fall weekends even more exciting. The stadium is only a half hour away and the restaurants near the lake are not crowded for the post game festivities. Chicago is an hour commute by Amtrak or car, some have even windsurfed across the lake to arrive on the shore of Union Pier but that is not for the occasional board rider. Detroit residents can choose to watch sunsets on a great lake with a three hour drive west and Indianapolis is about three hours to the south. The home is close to exits 4 and 6 off I 94, just beyond the Indiana border. New Buffalo, 5 miles to the south, offers a wide range of shopping and restaurants.

Water sports: While our family enjoys the simple life of sand and water we do recognize that some people like to boat. There is a marina in New Buffalo, 5 miles south of our property that offers docks for your boat. There are jet skis available to rent in Michigan City, Indiana, and the local boating store in New Buffalo rents canoes and kayaks. If you do bring your own small boat you may store it in the dunegrass near the base of the stairs while you are renting. We have some rafts, boogie boards and beach toys for your use in our garage.

Rainy day/Off season ideas: We are never at a loss for a new art gallery or antique store to explore in Harbor County. The town of Michigan City to the south has a large outlet mall for the shopper in your group. East is Three Oaks, known for its theatre, and north is Bridgman, home to Warren Dunes State Park and the famous 'Tower Hill'. They have well groomed cross country ski trails, marked hiking trails and a toboggan slide in the winter. Apple and fruit farms are dotted throughout the county for berry picking and several area wineries offer tours and tastings. There are massage and day spas in New Buffalo and restaurants for any palate.

Need more space?: While 5 bedrooms and 3 baths are enough for most groups, occassionally larger groups want to know if there is another home to rent near by. We have a sister property on the same block, just 6 houses west of The White House. Check it out on the site #158066. It is a charming 3 bedroom, 2 bath home complete with an indoor hot tub.
