Lilac Haven is an early American, post and beam farmhouse that dates back to 1750. Our location is in the heart of all the excitement of the beach area, yet remains private and secluded as it is nestled back from the main road and tucked in among glorious flower gardens.
While relaxing on the private porch having early morning coffee, you can listen to the birds singing in the trees and enjoy the gorgeous butterflies as they meander throughout the garden. The serenity and peacefulness of the area allows you to plan your day for a trip to the beach (about a 3 minute walk), hiking, golfing, antiquing, or shopping at nearby outlet malls.
There are three bedrooms. On the first floor is the Master Bedroom/bathroom and a sleep sofa in the living room. The second floor has two bedrooms - 2 twin beds in one room and 2 double beds in the other bedroom, and a full bathroom. The porch is equipped with a gas grill and a large table with seating for 6.
While visiting York explore the quaint coastal villages, antique shops, restaurants & pubs. Enjoy the luxurious tree lined park beginning the York Harbor Cliff walk or, a stroll in the woods leading to the Wiggley Bridge, the ending at the York River to admire a multitude of boats that include sailboats, cruisers, motorboats and lobster boats.
In 1996, our beloved mother and grandmother retired from her job as a public school teacher in Boston and moved to York Beach. When she bought this house, it had been neglected for years and was in a very sad state. It was definitely a labor of love, but after months and months of hard work, we helped her to turn it back into the wonderful, charming home it is today. Unfortunately, we lost Sarah in January 2015, but we as a family have taken on the property and are devoted to making sure it is kept up to her fabulous standards!

Taking old, run down homes and bringing them back to life is a passion that runs in the family. Many people thought Sarah was crazy for buying this house in its dilapidated state, but we saw the potential, and after months and months of hard work, the house was restored to its natural beauty. Sarah loved to garden and took great pride in her beautiful landscaping. The whole family gets involved in caring for the big yard and gardens, making sure it is ready for our guests to enjoy.
This is a unique house with lots of historic charm, but updated amenities. It has a private porch overlooking a beautiful garden- perfect for a barbecue! At night, the lights of the amusement park light up next door and you can watch the ferris wheel spin. The location can't be beat as the shops, restaurants, arcade, and beach are just steps away. Being just a 3-5 minute walk to Short Sands Beach is truly a luxury when considering the cost and limited availability of parking.
My apologies for not getting back to you sooner--I've been meaning to email you & thank you for the lovely gift basket you left for us. Thank you again for all of your help coordinating our rental, and again for the nice gift basket when we got there! Best wishes,
My friends and I stayed at Lilac Haven for a week over the summer and had a fantastic time. The house was really clean and the location was surprisingly quiet given that it is so close to the Short Sands area. The best part was that we could walk to the beach in no time. I don't think we'd be able to find a parking space closer to the beach if we drove there. We also appreciated that we had a grill and full kitchen so we could cook out and not have to spend too much $$ out at restaurants every night. York is a beautiful place and the Kittery outlets are close by so we were also able to do a little shopping. Would recommend to anyone!
My family and I had such a wonderful stay at Lilac Haven. We were able to walk to Short Sands beach in under 5 minutes and my kids loved the fact that we were next door to an amusement park! We arrived to find that they left us a wonderful gift basket with snacks and goodies and information about all the things to do in and around York. The house was fresh and clean and the garden outside was beautiful. You can tell they take pride in their home. We will definitely be back for another stay soon!
My husband and I, along with a few family members from Europe, stayed in this lovely cottage in August last year. It's the quintessential Maine experience! Very clean and perfectly located for day trips - but the place was so relaxing - we didn't want to leave!!
