If you are looking for a cozy retreat with proximity to town and country alike, Plum Cottage is the place for you! You'll feel instantly at home in this charming 1950's cottage. Updated, yet full of character, the Plum is just 5 minutes from the center of Kalispell, swimming, or hiking, 15 minutes from Flathead Lake, the Majestic Valley Arena, and 2 golf courses, and 45 minutes from two ski resorts (Whitefish and Blacktail), two outstanding summer theaters, and Glacier Park. Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, the Plum will more than meet your needs.
The cottage has 1850 square feet with two bedrooms upstairs (one queen, one double), one bedroom (queen) and bathroom on the main floor, and a hide-a-bed in the living room. Each bedroom has its own TV and vanity (no sink) with mirror. The living/dining area has an open feel with large windows and an inviting fireplace where you'll want to snuggle or play board games while you enjoy the crackling fire. Bring your computer and take advantage of the wireless high-speed internet or watch TV on the new 51' flat screen.
Outside, there is a lovely creek which meanders through the property. Relax on the deck while you listen to the birds, or play badminton on the lawn. Just 1/3 mile down the road is the trailhead for Lone Pine State Park. Hike to the top and you will be rewarded with an incredible panoramic view of the valley.
Cleaniliness and minimal environmental impact are priorities. The home is immaculate. Non-toxic, natural products are used as much as possible. Recycling is encouraged, with bins located in the garage.
Staying at the Plum--your home away from home--makes it fun and easy to take advantage of all that the Flathead Valley has to offer!
Hi, I'm Kathy, the owner of Plum Cottage. The photo was taken at Hidden Lake in Glacier Park. When I retired after 25 years of teaching (mostly 2nd grade), I had no idea what the next phase of my life would bring. Then the notion of fixing up an older home to resell presented itself, and the more I told myself it was crazy, the more I wanted to do it! I had remodeled my own home to make an apartment for my father a few years ago, and found that I really enjoyed the process. So I channeled my carpenter grandfather, became a student of HGTV, and jumped in feet first! In the end, though, once I had put my heart and soul--and sweat--into this special old farmhouse, I fell completely in love with it. The original plan of reselling it was discarded, and the new plan of starting a vacation rental was born. Being able to exercise my creativity and share something I love with others has been very rewarding.
If I'm not doing Plum-related work I'm probably working on another rental, reading a good book, hiking, or visiting friends.
Kathleen Pierce purchased this house in 2006
I grew up in Kalispell, Montana. I've been to many other beautiful places, including the rain forests of Panama and the fjords of Norway, but somehow there's no place like home. Glacier National Park (near Kalispell) just takes my breath away every time I'm there.
One of my favorite places ever since childhood has been Lone Pine State Park, with its panoramic views. When I saw a for sale sign in front of an old farmhouse on my way to hike at Lone Pine, I knew I had found my next project!
The Plum's biggest benefit is location, location, location! You couldn't get closer to town without actually being in it, so you have all the conveniences of nearby shopping, restaurants, and culture. On top of that, a sweet little creek runs through the backyard, you have a view of the mountains beyond, you're a stone's throw away from Lone Pine State Park, and Glacier Park is about a 45 minute drive.
Plum Cottage has a unique, old-fashioned charm, with modern conveniences. It has a fireplace for the cooler months, and a great deck with a gas grill overlooking the creek for the warmer months. It has central air, wireless internet, and four televisions with digital cable. The home and grounds are very clean and tidy.
We have been to time shares from coast to coast, Mexico to Alaska, and never have we found a nicer and more complete home as Kathy's. Love the place and will be back if possible.
We stayed at the Plum Cottage for three nights and found the property to be perfect in every way. Location, views, cleanliness, decor, amenities, privacy, and more!! I've stayed at dozens of VRBO properties over the years and the Plum Cottage is TOPS on my list. I felt like I was in my own little dream cottage the entire time and hated to leave. Kathy was very responsive to our needs and I'll definitely be back to enjoy this little jewel of a place in Kalispell.
This little cottage is very cozy, clean and convenient. We vistited Glacier Park and the city of Kalispell all in one day. Very nicely decorated and all you need to bring is your clothing and food.
We would definitley return.

We weren't really sure what to expect when we signed up but it sounded like an ideal situation for our needs. It was more than we could have ever hoped for. It was completely charming. The special touches by the owner shows that she really cares about her cottage and wants to make it feel like a home away from home for her guests. The owner as really set the bar high for future rentals that we have at other places. The cottage was completely stocked with everything we needed including paper towels, toilet papers and laundry soap. It had a beautiful deck out back that we could watch the deer in the morning while enjoying our coffee. We can't wait to go back!
Plum Cottage makes you feel right at home. We explored Glacier Park and the surrounding areas. When we were too tired to keep going we grilled on the deck and watched the wildlife. There were deer and raccoon's and we even rescued an abandoned kitten. Kathy made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. We felt right at home.
The owner refurbished this home as evidenced by the photo book showing each phase of the renovation. The best part is she did it right. Every inch was clean and sparkling, comfortable and included everything you might need in a vacation home. She was so thoughtful, marking cabinets with what was inside in case you needed a light bulb, extra batteries, a pad and pen, and a whole lot more. The kitchen was fully appointed with dishes, glasses, pots and pans, and appliances, and allowed you to prepare meals comfortably. There is a huge back deck and a nice view. Any questions and you got almost an instantaneous response. This vacation rental truly shows how attentive the owner is.
Plum Cottage has been our vacation rental of choice in the Flathead Valley for the last 4 years. It is a combination of comfort, spaciousness, attractiveness and cleanliness. It's furnished tastefully with a welcoming feel. The ample kitchen has everything needed to prepare meals. The deck overlooks the backyard, the meandering, tree-lined Ashley Creek, the nature refuge, a horse pasture and the mountains in the distance. We spent many an hour on the deck relaxing and just looking. Evening after evening we were treated to beautiful sunsets. It seems like a very restorative place to be...close to the beauty of nature but at the same time all the comforts of home. As if what I've described isn't enough already, the convenience of Plum Cottage to a variety of interesting places makes a lengthy list. Just to name a few:
Lone Pine State Park with 2 trailheads is within walking distance of the Plum. The trails are gradual to moderate to somewhat strenuous, but all with plenty of interesting views and forest features. The pinnacle is an overlook that provides a marvelous view of the Flathead Valley plus an opportunity to spot Plum Cottage in the distance.
The west entrance of Glacier National Park is about a 40-minute drive away. From there you can access the Going-to-the-Sun Road that traverses the park and its breath-taking scenery. There are plenty of hiking possibilities there. Our favorite is through the Trail of the Cedars to Avalanche Lake. At Logan Pass we took the Hidden Lake Overlook Trail. It requires a bit of exertion, but all along the way there are beautiful panoramas.
Kootenai Falls Trail, about 90 miles west on Highway 2, includes the falls and the swinging bridge. It's really something to see the water rushing down the falls. The bridge was pretty steady when we walked on it.
Whitefish is less than 20 miles north on Highway 93. We enjoyed going to the weekly farmers' market there, strolling around town, eating at the Buffalo Cafe and riding the chairlift up Big Mountain.
The National Bison Range is about 75 miles south, and the 16-mile, one-way drive through the park offers opportunities to view wildlife, as well as amazing vistas of the surrounding countryside. We like to have a picnic lunch near the highest point of the drive.
Nearby Bigfork has shops, restaurants, the Swan River walking trail and a great setting on the banks of Flathead Lake.
Kalispell has plenty of interesting shops, restaurants and nice places to walk, s
Snowshoeing, Bird watching, Ice skating
