On the third floor of a hundred years old brownstone, la Maison des Sirenes is perfect for anybody appreciating style and comfort. Affordable but not 'cheap', La Maison des Sirenes is well dressed!!! The apartment was decorated with taste and I meticulously picked every single of furnitures myself. This is the first apartment I ever rented as a vacation rental(August 2007).
It is located on one of the most coveted block of Bedstuy(tree lined). It features a master bedroom,an antique bathroom, fully equipped Tuscan style kitchen, dining room, living room and an amazing bamboo lined deck with table, umbrella and wrought iron daybed. Perfect for barbecue in summer, sun bathing brunches on weekends or simply relaxing.
Most importantly the apartment is a few statins away from Manhattan.

Bedstuy used to be known for its motto 'do or die' . Not anymore!!!! Now it is best known for its incredibly beautiful Brownstone. It was fearures recentlt in the Time Out magazine as ' one of the best neighbourhood ' of NYC.The strong community and abundant beautiful brownstone townhouses contribute to its growth and charm. New cafes, restaurants, bakeries ,boutique ,galleries nd wine bars are sprouting everywhere receiving much attention by Zagat, time out,NY magazines and blogs. A diverse mix of students, hipsters, artists, crative professionals, architects and attorneys of all races continue to move to the neighbourhood.
The area is serviced well by the A abd C train with commute times 15 mn to lowervManhattan and 30 mn to midtown.(times square).
Bedstuy was home to famous artists such as Notorious BIG,Lil Kim,Mos Def,Chris rock,,poet June Jordan and activist Hattie Carthan. Bedstuy streets are often represented in media : Spike lee movies, MIA music video.....
There is a strong sense of pride being part of Bedstuy and being its pioneers.
I simply fell in love with all the stain glasses and beautiful intricate wood frames.
My experience can be summed up in a little story:
We arrived to New York on a beautiful summer's morning just in time to celebrate Labor Day 2009. My cousin, who had never been to NYC was weary of anything that wasn't a 4 -star manhattan hotel with pillow mints and room service. As I led her out of Manhattan and onto the streets Brooklyn, she appeared uncomfortable- clearly a diva out of her element.
She followed me up the plush tree-lined street until we arrived in front of a beautiful brownstone. Nathalie, the hostess greeted us and welcomed us inside. She greeted us as if we had met before. Her warmth made it feel like a homecoming of sorts. As Nathalie led us into the house I looked over at my cousin. The fear and apprehension disappeared as the sunlight highlighted the awe and wonder on her face.
We found ourselves in a beautifully decorated Brooklyn brownstone with fantastic design sensibilities that, thanks to Nathalie, felt like our home. The walls and floors were adorned with tastefully decorated elements that gave the room an elegant personality. And messages like "you are beautiful" etched in the mirror reminded us of the power of simple words.
With the sun beaming on her face, her delight (and relief) couldn't be hidden under sunglasses. "Cuz, this feels like a dream! This place is amazing!" That weekend in September is one of the most memorable trips I have ever had, and it's all thanks to Nathalie.
My daughter and I really enjoyed our stay here. The apartment is in and old historic brownstone and the decor is charming. It was a bit noisy in the evenings at times, but overall we felt very comfortable here. The apartment is very convenient to busses and subways. If you're traveling with children, the Brooklyn Children's Museum is nearby and is awesome!
agreble sejour appartement tres calme , Nathalie tres sympas
je vous le conseil fortement
We really enjoyed the two weeks we've spent in this beautiful, clean and well-maintained apartment. Most of all we enjoyed the possibility to relax on the nice terrace after long days in Manhatten, Brooklyn or Queens.
Thank you very much, Nathalie! We will recommend your apartment to our friends and we hope to return one day.
A recommander
We spent a week in NY in April. The apartment is very comfortable, bright and welcoming. It was a pleasure to rest there, in this quiet street, after Manhattan's restlessness. It was nice to have a long breakfast in the large kitchen/dinning room to prepare our trip of the day. The owner, Nathalie, welcomed us very kindly and was helpful all the time. We also had dinner at a very nice and good italian restaurant near the house, recommended by Nathalie. It's very easy to go to Manhattan by the subway. My children and I really appreciated our time in this place and will be happy to come back!
This beautiful apartment is situated in the new upcoming neighbourhood in Brooklyn: Bedstuy. It is 15 mn away from Manhattan downtown and 30 mn away from Times Square. Bedstuy is the secret of New York and people are fighting right now to get a house here. A lot of artists, musicians, writer are moving in.
It is a couple of blocks from the main street Fulton where the subway can be found and all kind of stores(supermarket with organic products...) and restaurants (mainly west Indian).
Fortgreen with all its cafes and restaurants is within reach.
Everything that you need to spend a perfect vacation is here: subway (A and C), bus, restaurants on Tompkins, shops, beauty salons (manicure ,waxing....)
