This was my husband and I's first choice when deciding on a venue for our wedding. We both have a love for architecture and design and this contemporary home with the outdoor space in the hill country was the perfect setting for what we envisioned. We both love the outdoors and that is where we spend much of our time, so it made sense to get married outside at sunset with an outdoor party following. I will admit that I was concerned about the distance from Austin, because a majority of our guests were coming from not only out of town, but out of state, plus we wanted people to enjoy themselves and not have to worry about drinking and driving. Therefore we chartered buses, and as far as we heard they worked out flawlessly. This was my biggest concern, but all the feedback was positive. Many of our friends and family had funny stories from their bus trips that made the entire experience more memorable. The owners were wonderful to work with, very accommodating to any special requests we made and they were a pleasure to work with. The property was in perfect condition and it was seamless for our rental company, catering company and band to load in and out. Our guests all raved about the location and will not soon forget the event. It is such a unique venue that your event will definitely be memorable. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone for not only events but a fun getaway. It made our wedding so special and unique and we would not change a thing. We look forward to using this venue again and again for romantic getaways to our future anniversary parties. The owners were excellent to work with and the venue was a spectacular locale.

Our group of 10 absolutely loved our stay at The Plant. We traveled with 6 adults and 4 young boys, and this was the perfect accommodation for us. The spacious vaulted screen porch was a great way to keep our party contained with plenty of room for games and running around. That porch also overlooks a nicely landscaped lawn area, which was perfect for playing football and setting up the badminton set we brought with us.
Indoors, the owners have included many considerate amenities for city dwellers. The kitchen was outfitted with a big pro range (bring matches!), pour-over coffee pot and nice coffee grinder, cazuela, enamel pots and other nice serving ware, good knives, cutting boards, TONS of paper towels, wine glasses, etc. The bathrooms each had comfy towels, plenty of tissue paper (obviously these paper goods are important to me... especially after staying at other Homeaways that leave you high and dry), hair dryers, and enough hangers in the closet. Our bed upstairs was very comfortable, at least as good as ours at home.
We spent both nights by the fire in the inglenook (our new term of the weekend) doing a puzzle and drinking wine. Thankfully the TVs are in the bedrooms, so it felt relatively free of technology. It was a bit chilly to swing in the pool or sleep on the swinging bed on the upstairs porch, but I bet these would be good amenities in warmer times.
We also took advantage of the property nature tours offered by the sweet neighbors, Martha and Jamie. They led us on an exploration of the 1-2 acre area and taught us so much about the animals, insects and flora, as well as the amazing grottos and rock formations on site. I definitely recommend this as a way to expand your understanding of the site!
Thanks so much to Mark and Dana for preserving the original character of the Plant and allowing visitors the experience of staying there... it's truly a Texas Hill Country gem, and most definitely a historic landmark in the making!
This is a true gem. Book your trip now before I reserve the next open weekend which is probably 6 months from now. Can't say enough about it. Thanks to all involved in offering such a wonderful opportunity.
My husband and I had an absolutely fabulous time at The Plant! We were in search of a unique wedding spot, and The Plant was just that. While we live in Austin, I am originally from Tucson and my husband is from Boston. Needless to say most of our guests were travellers. We were somewhat hesitant at first to make the leap in securing this venue because it did not include a wedding planner or formal assistance. However, this was just as enticing to us because we were able to make the day truly our own.
Now, we did have some help throughout the duration of our wedding planning. Martha and Jamie, neighbors to The Plant, provided great suggestions to vendors and offered any needed support along the way. We already miss them! We also had a day-of wedding coordinator (Bird Dog Wedding), and this was most useful. This help was essential for planning a seamless wedding at The Plant.
End of the story...all the guests from Austin and all the out-of-towners had a wonderful time. Many guests even said this was the best wedding they ever attended! The Plant is simply magical, and we could not have found a better place to start our lives. My husband and I plan on visiting The Plant in the future. It has a special place in our hearts. We highly recommend The Plant for an intimate stay or a once-in-a-lifetime wedding.
Sincerely, Emily and Sean

Both of our families stayed at The Plant for our wedding weekend, and it was spectacular. The property was very clean and the outdoors was well maintained. Mark was very responsive the entire process leading up- even when I asked multiple questions via email. Justine (the property manager) was also great for the stay and very communicative. Everyone raved at how beautiful the house is and the wedding turned out. We would recommend this to anyone wanting a stay out in the country or holding an event. I think it is better for smaller, intimate or mid-sized events, but could definitely hold a lot of people. We loved it!
What a fabulous way to remember my special birthday! Friends relaxed in the pool, enjoyed the sampling of local wildflowers on the tables, and had homemade gumbo with key lime pie for desert! Topping it off was some unforgettable music from good friends! The acoustic sounds emanating from the beautiful fireplace was very special indeed! We are so grateful to the owners for their gracious help and flexibility! Thank you for an unforgettable evening!
