The year-round cottage is comfortably furnished, and has cotton bed linens and down comforters, and a fully equipped kitchen. The fireplace is cozy when the weather is cool, and the screened porch is comfortable for relaxing and dining in summer. Located just a block down a country dirt private lane from beautiful Lake Buel with its shared swimming and boating beach, 5 minutes from Ski Butternut, 10 minutes from the town of Great Barrington with its fine restaurants and shopping, 20 minutes from Tanglewood Music Festival, the Norman Rockwell Museum, The Berkshire Botanical Gardens, the quaint towns of Stockbridge and Lenox, and Catamont Ski Area, and 30 minutes from Jacobs Pillow Dance Theater. The Applachian Trail, with great hiking and snowshoeing, is 1/4 mile away. Bikes, kayaks and canoes are rented in Great Barrington.

The Berkshires abounds in numerous cultural and outdoor activities. The world famous Tangewood Music Center featuring the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Jacobs Pillow Dance Center, the Norman Rockwell Museum, The Edith Wharton House, and numerous other museums are within a twenty minute drive. The Berkshire area also has many fine local theater groups, and a wonderful selection of fine restaurants. Skiing, hiking, swimming, fishing, biking, golfing are nearby and the area has many beautiful state parks.

BAR FOOD IN AN ELEGANT NEW ENGLAND INN Thornwood Inn Junction Rtes 7 and 183, Great Barrington Reaaly great chicken pot pie, hamburgers, fish and chips etc. ELEGANT, EXPENSIVE DINING The Old Inn On The Green Rte 57, New Marlborough Romantic, candlelight dining, incredible food. We had a great time at this lovely house. Very clean and well-maintained. The owners were very helpful, too-- they even brought me muffin tins so I could bake during rainy weather!

New Years in a Winterwonderland

We had a wonderful time at the cottage, which we shared with another family, so 4 adults and 4 kids ages 10 -15 and 2 dogs, for a week over New Years. The cottage was clean and very comfortable, with enough bedroom, bathroom and living space for all. It is close to Butternut, a great family ski area and Great Barrington, a beautiful little town for strolling around.
The cottage is surrounded by woods and close to the lake so we spent lots of time walking and hiking.
We hope to go back again next year.

My sister and I rented this lovely cottage sight unseen and we were absolutely delighted with our stay. The pictures do not do it justice. The house is well appointed, very clean, and quite comfortable. The owner made sure that we were very well taken care of both before and during our stay.

We chose this rental because it was near the Appalachian Trail and we spent our week section hiking the AT and doing other great hikes in the Berkshires. It was all we had hoped for - they even welcomed my sister's dog!

One never knows how things will turn out when arrangements are made on line. I want to comment on how wonderful it was to work with the owner of this property, from start to finish. She answered all our questions, went the extra mile to accomodate our needs, and treated us like family, although we had never met or spoken on the phone.
It is refreshing to encounter this kind of personal attention and concern in a world where our electronic dealings and meanderings hold no guarantees. She was a pleasure to work with, and we could not have asked for a better experience.
