Renters beware

This rental property is a nice property on a nice lake but it is not without its problems. Renters beware to make note of any problems/issues of the house no matter how small you feel they may be. Cover yourself to make sure you will not be accused of any prior or subsequent problems with the property. If any normal wear and tear happens on your visit be sure to watch your security deposit. Our own experience has proven that a simple and inexpensive problem is inflated by the owner by way of estimates from individuals that have personal relationships with the owner. Just be careful on choosing where to take your vacations and think twice before choosing this rental.
Owner's Response: Disappointing feedback after many attempts were made to settle damages amicably. Numerous things were damaged in the home and when I approached the primary renter, she confirmed that the damages had occurred during their visit. Unfortunately, they turned sour after a portion of their deposit was used to replace things that were damaged. The damages were not "normal wear and tear" as mentioned above--the screen door was ripped and ruined, sheets were stained, and a glass coffee pot was broken (which they were not charged for, as that's an understandable mistake). The visitors immediately following their departure called on the first day of their visit to inform me of two additional damages that had been overlooked during cleaning and inspection. In turn, I emailed these visitors, and the prior weeks visitors (as they were the only two rental parties to have stayed when the damages occurred) to ask if it had happened during their stay. They said no, and I apologized for any inconvenience it may have caused them, left it at that, and paid for those damages myself. It is my personal home (not an investment property) and I take good care of it--I only ask that visitors take responsibility for damages beyond common accidents and normal wear and tear. I go above and beyond in communicating with visitors, helping them find local activities, and granting special requests. I pride myself in making the house a clean and comfortable place for visitors to enjoy a nice vacation. Please contact me if you have additional questions or concerns about this review.
