|Minimum Stay||3 nights|
Domus Colosseo is a big and luxury penthouse (130 m2 plus 130 m2 of terraces) arranged on three floors with a breathtaking 360° view over ancient Rome. It is ideal for families and large groups looking for a very central apartment.
At only two-minutes walk from the Coliseum and the Imperial Forums, it is perfect for visiting ancient Rome while comfortably settled in a newly renovated apartment equipped with full comforts (Jacuzzi hot tub, Internet wi-fi, air conditioning, satellite Sky TV, washing machine, dishwasher, coffee machine, microwave, elevator, iron, city guides etc.).
---360° view over Rome---
Enjoy a breathtaking view all over the centre of Rome from its roof garden, terraces and windows: stunning views are the main trait of this penthouse and they are so spectacular, particularly on the 8th floor roof garden, that in May 2008 they were filmed by National Geographic for a programme about Rome.
IMPORTANT: at the moment a portion of the view in front of the apartment is disturbed by works in progress for the construction of the Line-C subway, that can produce noise during working hours.
---Ideal for a large group or a family---
The apartment is ideal for a large group or a family, as the space of the entire property (260 m2) allows full ease of living for 8 people (6 adults plus 2 children). There are 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 1 roof garden and 2 terraces , 1 outdoor shower, 1 living room, 1 dining room and 1 kitchen.
The apartment is located on the 6th, 7th and 8th floors of an eight-floor building, and includes an elevator. Situated in the Celio district of Rome (one of the famous Seven Hills), the area is full of green spaces; however, it also offers lively restaurants, pubs, and supermarkets. The building is encircled by three public parks.
---How to reach the apartment---
Located in the heart of ancient Rome, the apartment is perfect for those who want to walk in the centre or reach any other destination by public transports. The access is extremely easy both via public transportation and private car.
• Fly to Rome: convenient though luxurious airport transfers both from Ciampino and Fiumicino are available. It is more comfortable (the driver finds you, he knows where you have to go and you do not have to queue in order to find a taxi) and sometimes even cheaper than taxis.
• Drive to Rome: a large paying garage is only 50 meters away.
• Come to Rome by Train: Termini (central railway station) is just two subway stops away.
• Underground stops (“Colosseo” line B and “Vittorio Emanuele” line A) and bus stops are only 2-10 minutes walk.
--- Arrival and departure---
Arrival is generally since 3 pm and departure within 10 am. Early departures (before 8 am) can be accepted only if agreed in advance.
We are a family of four people, my husband and I, and our two daughters (27, 31 years old). Born in Rome, we have always lived in this beautiful city. Although we are true Romans, we love to travel and meet people of different nationalities. And this rental job provides us with the fantastic opportunity of working together as a family and meeting foreigners who want to discover Rome.
The Owner purchased this apartment in 1952
We have been living in this district for 30 years and we love it! It's one of the 7 historical hills of Rome, just by the Colosseum and we love to introduce our guests to this ancient jewels we love so much.
- living in the historical centre of Rome and having the most important tourist attractions at 2 minutes walk
- enjoying stunning views everywhere in the penthouse and a unique 360° view on ancient Rome from the 8th floor Roof Garden, the highest private point of Celio district
- waking up in the 6th floor big double bedroom or in the 7th floor bedroom and seeing the Coliseum from the window
- having a shower oudoor (in the 7th floor outdoor shower) while overlooking the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and then lying in the sun on the sunbeds in the 8th floor Roof Garden
- eating together in the big dining room or in the 6th floor terrace, which is a wonderful dining room in the open air overlooking the sunset, also for celebrating anniversaries (restaurants with terrace in Rome are very expensive: from € 80/140 for each person)
- bringing your kids to play in Villa Celimontana
- watching the sunset from one of the terraces, while drinking a Prosecco wine bought in the supermarket near the apartment (only 20 meters far away!)
All of my family loved the apartment. It was clean and all amenities were sufficient. The location was perfect, we couldn't have asked for anything more. The advertisement for the property reflected the apartment and we all said we would definitely come again probably in the spring to make the most of the terrace views. We very much enjoyed our stay. Thank you for renting us this wonderful apartment.
We stayed for two weeks. The apartment is clean, spacious and air conditioned. Wonderful decks which we enjoyed every morning and evening. Ideal location with good local restaurants all around. The grocery store is 1 minute away. The owners could not have been more helpful and were a delight to meet. We will go back the next time we visit Rome.
This place was perfect for my family of five including three teenagers. We stayed the whole week and not only was there ample space to move around (a rarity in Europe) but it was super clean, and with good air conditioning. On the street were no less than 20 restaurants and pizzerias in the four square block area. All that we tried were pretty good and filled with locals too. We must have walked the whole of central Rome from here and agreed this was the best neighborhood to stay. Lively but not noisy. You can also walk to all the ancient ruins from this location, not just the major ones. Even made it to aqueduct Claudia from here. Giovanni and Rafaella, the owners even helped arrange private transportation from Fumicello. Great english too.
First of all, the location is fabulous. It is right in the heart of the Coliseum area. Despite this convenience, it is on the quieter side of the neighborhood, so we had no trouble with noise or traffic locally. In addition to the sights, there are numerous markets, restaurants, and other conveniences within a 1 minute walk.
Inside the the apartment is very nice also. The hosts mentioned that they were in the process of upgrading furnishings, but I found them to be quite comfortable.
We had a family with 5 adults and 1 infant, and we had plenty of space and we could easily have easily fit 8 people. The kitchen had all of the items we could need for cooking and serving. The bathrooms were also nice (especially the 3rd (outdoor) shower!).
There are actually 2 balconies (almost 3). The outdoor space is really well suited for drinking some wine and enjoying the marvelous views of the city or having a small get-together with friends on the roof-top.
The hosts were quite helpful both in accommodating our check-in as well as helping us find services we needed. The Buffa family are very friendly and professional.
The only downside I can manage to think of would be that the elevator to the apartment and the stairs within the unit itself (to the 2nd and 3rd floors) are both a bit small and not suited for small children or very elderly. However, these facts didn't impact our stay at all (we stayed on the 1st floor of the apartment with our baby and held him in the elevator).
I can't imagine even wanting to stay anywhere else my next time in Rome. This is really the kind of place where you can enjoy staying while in Rome. Do yourself a favor and book this place.
Over Christmas and New Years we had a three-generation family gathering in Rome, using this bright, spacious apartment. Location is very convenient - for walking, access to Metro, and a nearby taxi stand. Living and dining rooms were good gathering places. Every room has a great view. Raffaella and Giovanni were welcoming and knowledgeable.
We have had the good fortune of visiting Rome on 4 occasions previous to this last visit. We must say that this last trip was by far the best and most memorable, in large part due to the hospitality and warm welcome that Raffaella and Giovanni extended to us.
First, they were extremely patient and understanding of our late arrival into Rome (we were coming from Venice via train and it broke down, delayed us for over an hour). Upon arrival, they seamlessly took care of all the necessary paperwork and oriented us to this lovely apartment. We had six adults and a 2-year old toddler. We were ALL like children as they walked us through their lovely home--the views from the terrace and roof garden were MAGNIFICENT!! The huge smiles on our faces said it all--we can't believe we get to stay here for 5 days!!
All the helpful and necessary information were organized in a binder (maps of the city, closest public transportation, list of neighborhood restaurants and markets, sites, WiFi access, etc), which proved to be extremely helpful during our stay. Raffaella even called to make reservations for us that first evening, at a neighborhood restaurant that had fresh made pasta and was well priced. They wished us well, handed over the keys to the apartment and building and even provided a local cell phone just in case we needed to contact them.
This is truly one of the loveliest neighborhoods in Rome - Celio, one of the 7 sacred hills. Locals going about their day, wonderful restaurants, several supermarkets (one just next door to the building), gelato shops and within a 5 min walk to the Coliseum, another 2 min from there to the closest metro stop which made getting around Rome very easy. We took advantage of the quaint, well appointed kitchen and actually enjoyed breakfast in the home, along with two dinners and a lunch. We really took advantage of the market next door! It was fun to cook in a Roman kitchen if you so desire.
The perfect way to end any evening is to enjoy your favorite bottle of Italian wine (of course!), taking in in the sunset and soaking in the beauty of the Eternal City from the terrace. It's a slice of heaven on earth!
We can't say enough wonderful things about the Buffa Family and their lovely home. We would not hesitate to recommend them to any of our family and friends. If we are fortunate to come back to Rome, we will definitely want to stay here again!
Mille Grazie Raffaella et Giovanni!!
My family spent a week in Rome right before Easter and had the most amazing experience at this property! We were looking for the perfect apartment to share our week in Rome together. We felt that staying in a hotel would not be conducive to having the ultimate Rome and family experience. We fell in love with the apartment when we saw the pictures online and couldn't believe that it was even better in person. The apartment had the most stunning views including the Coliseum which was absolutely breathtaking. The apartment was perfect for our family which included adult brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and cousins. The inside of the apartment was very spacious and the outdoor deck was a superb amenity for us to have a glass of wine, talk about the day and share some meals. The owners Raffaela and Giovanni were most accommodating and gracious upon our arrival and during our stay. They left a detailed book of things to do in the area and included pertinent numbers and instructions. The only bad part was that we had to leave! I would highly recommend this apartment to anyone who wishes to experience Rome intimately. We felt that we were part of the beautiful city.
