Great Cabin in a Great Location for Having Fun in the Great Outdoors
Our family of 6 loved our stay over Memorial Day weekend. The cabin had plenty of room, comfortable beds, and well-equipped kitchens. The rocking chairs and tables on the wrap-around porch were great for reading, enjoying a cup of coffee, and listening to the early morning sounds of nature while enjoying breakfast. Our grown-up kids (in their 20s) enjoyed the broad selection of Disney and other movies that made them feel like they were reliving their childhood, and the large kitchen/dining table was great for card games and puzzles. The cabin's proximity to outdoor recreation locations is a real plus. It is about 30 minute drive to Grayson Highlands State Park and we spent one day hiking from Massie Gap to Rhododenron Gap, about 5 miles round trip, mainly on the Appalachian Trail. The rhododendron were in bloom and we also saw the wild ponies. The next day we drove 35-40 minutes to Damascus and rented bicycles/shuttle service from an outfitter and biked the 18 mile portion of the Virginia Creeper Trail from Whitetop Station to Damascus. It is all down hill at a gentle slope and is perfect for just coasting (i.e., no pedaling required), with overall drop from about 3800 ft to 1800 ft elevation.
