Sodus Bay House Rental Photos and Description

House, 3 Bedrooms + Other (See Description), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

Love at first sight! Supreme sunrises with sunlight flooding through a wall of windows overlooking the largest bay on Lake Ontario. Boat or drive to our favorite spots... Gastronomic delights such as Lancaster's 'Helluva Good' Cheese Stand with XXX sharp cheddar and homemade fruit pies; Orchard View Farm market with frozen custard swirled with your choice of fresh fruit; fine dining at Baystreet Hotel or great burgers with live music on the outside deck of Papa Joes. Wine tasting at wineries throughout the Finger Lakes region; rainy day visit to a Rochester museum or spa; day trip to Niagara Falls, fabulous bargain finds at local antique stores, Sunday concerts on the lawn at the Sodus Point Lighthouse museum, free outdoor movies on the local baseball diamond... the list goes on.

We've pampered this vintage 1952 cottage. Adorned with period proper treasures: rattan sectional seating circa 1950, sea captain's trunk stores extra bedding, nautical bedroom set of solid rock maple, Heywood Wakefield dining ensemble seats 10... this charmer is updated for aesthetic sensibilities. Gorgeous travertine marble complements the original heart pine flooring throughout, cathedral ceiling in Great Room lends an airy openness that accents the hand-built lake stone fireplace, kitchen with vaulted ceiling, granite counter tops and breakfast bar, newly remodeled bathrooms with tumbled marble and Kohler fixtures, ceiling fans to catch the breezes, plenty of outdoor furniture to lounge on, dine, sit at the bar and gaze at the most spectacular view on Sodus Bay! What's not to love?

Our family includes Cooper, our standard poodles who didn't make it into the photo but are very much in our lives. Aurora owns a day spa, Fred is the CEO for a behavioral health company, and Cody recently graduated from Towson University in Baltimore.

Living on the Chesapeake Bay for the past 26 years we thrive on the unique beauty of America's waterways and waterfront living.

Considering retirement years we knew that we'd want to go where our hearts are, in upstate New York. With Rochester and Syracuse within an hour we can fly in, or partake of the city for a great restaurant, art, or shopping. Vermont,Montreal and Toronto a days drive away!

Come share our dream !!

Aurora or Fred purchased this house in 2007

We have been coming to Sodus Bay for the last 17 years. Re-uniting with family and bringing in-laws and friends we get to share our love for the perfect place to go back in time. The towns, the beach, the neighbors and even the weather seem to be the way I remember it from childhood. That is, a slower pace where the person behind the cash register stops to chat; real peace and quiet with thousands of stars; no need to lock the doors; warm sunny days with low humidity; wild flowers bursting with color by the side of the road...Of course there's endless water from the Bay to Lake Ontario to the Finger Lakes and the Erie Canal.

Having a spectacular view of Sodus Bay from sunrise to moonrise is unbelievably joyful. You know you're in the right place and it's always the right time. Of course our company often like to fish off our dock which means dinner is super fresh. Just a short way around the Bay we find the best homemade fruit pies we've ever eaten. My cousins can be found at the Sodus Golf Club-gorgeous rolling green acres, while my son joins the poker games there twice a week. The younger set are happy at the miniature golf course and we're all up for one of the local ice cream spots. Superlatives abound!

GREAT LOCATION !

  • 4 of 5
We were looking for a rental that was near the water, one hour drive from home, clean and safe for our grandchildren ( twins under 3) to enjoy . We found all of our needs in this property situated in a quite neighborhood on Sodus Bay. We spent time enjoying the spacious living /eating area with a view of the bay and large deck overlooking the water. We put up an inflatable pool on the deck and the kids spent hours watering the flowers with squirt guns. They also enjoyed reeling in the the fish that grandpa caught right from the dock. There isn't much of a beach area in front, but you are close to the public beach in Sodus with a lifeguard, plenty of sand and playground. We had great meals at Abe's and Captain Jack's right in town. We participated in the kiddie parade on 7/3 which originated at the fire house. Several streets were blocked off and at least 100 people walked together with kids in wagons, strollers or on bikes to the lighthouse. That night we could see the fireworks right from our deck. We enjoyed our vacation and I'd recommend this rental.

WHAT A WONDERFUL GETAWAY!

  • 5 of 5
House is lovely. The location was beautiful and relaxing. We really enjoyed the dock and got in lots of fishing. The location offered privacy. There were plenty of things to do in the area but required a bit of travel. Our teens and our dog had a wonderful time too. Fred and Aurora are gracious hosts. We would definitely go back again in the area.

RELAXING

  • 5 of 5
This was our 1st visit to the Sodus Bay area and we really enjoyed our stay. Loved the setup of the cottage and all the updates along with the decor! The air-conditioning in the great room was a life saver (this was a hot summer). We did bring a portable fan if it got too hot in the bedrooms. You don't find many cottages with the a/c amenity so that was a bonus! The rooms were very clean/comfortable and the kitchen well-stocked with pots/pans/utensils for any chef. Our daughter enjoyed fishing on the dock and caught a few perch. We were treated to some magnificent sunrises/sunsets from the large deck. Every friend/family who visited commented on how nice the cottage was. We visited the chimney bluffs, a winery, fruit stands (pies), the Outlet Mall and our last day up to the Renaissance Festival. Hopefully we'll be able to return someday! Thanks for everything!

GREAT PLACE TO RELAX!

  • 5 of 5
We really enjoyed our time here with family. We had great weather. Loved the quiet- lovely dead end road, beautiful perennials, spacious deck, georgous views, comfortable beds. Appreciated all the extras from toiletries to spices. Didn't care for the mosquitoes that came out late in the evening BUT I guess that comes with the setting of being on the water. The grandkids enjoyed fishing and swimming off the dock. This is a great place if you have a boat. Our guys caught a slew of bass the 1st nite here which we enjoyed. Unfortunately the fishing wasn't as great after that, but still was enjoyable.

I would recommend bringing a fan or two with you as there is only an a/c unit in the great room and it helps on the warmer nights to push the cooler air into the bedrooms. We only had a couple nights that we had to use our fans like that. Also there isn't a ceiling fan in the one bedroom so you really need something in there on the warm nights.

We usually head toward the ocean for vacation and this was a wonderful change. Closer to home, less traffic and crowds.

A GREAT PLACE TO DECOMPRESS

  • 5 of 5
My wife and I just spent four days at this property with our daughter and son-in-law who were completing a stressful move after a stressful four years in medical school. It was the perfect place to decompress. We had a great time together.

The "great room" at the center of the house is even better and bigger than what is pictured on the website. With light streaming in from all directions and a great view of the lake out back, it was the perfect place to visit, relax and, if we got ambitious, mosey outside onto the deck. It was too cold to swim when we were there but access to the lake as easy and it looked like a great place to take a dip, or to watch your kids and/or grandkids take a dip, come summertime.

The house is well appointed, well cared for, and well-managed. It is close enough to grocery stores to get what you need and far enough from town to forget what you want. All in all, a great time in a great location and a great value.

Thanks for sharing your cottage with us! Hope we can come back soon when the lake is warmer!

BEAUTIFUL, WELL-MAINTAINED AND MODERN VACATION RENTAL!

  • 5 of 5
What a beautiful home with a great view! We couldn't be more pleased with our recent trip to Sodus Bay. The house has a large common area with an open-space concept with a stunning view of the Bay and is perfect for families or a group of friends. We felt at home and comfortable here - all the modern amenities and updates, without having to be in a sterile hotel room! We truly enjoyed the view and the large, spacious deck. Members of our family traveled near and far to gather for the weekend and this spacious house was just what we ordered. While the weather did not cooperate to truly enjoy the outdoors, we never once heard a complaint about the property. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were modern, and the kitchen was well equipped to handle our family meals. Half of the family spent the days fishing down on the dock (in the rain) while others ventured out to Sodus Point or the nearby wineries. If you are looking for a quiet, modern cottage on the waterfront that is great for entertaining, you need not look any further.

The owners of this property are more than accommodating and they opened their home to us a week ahead of their opening schedule. Before, during, and even after - the owner was in contact and immediately addressed any of our needs. Thanks for the wonderful stay! We enjoyed our visit so much that we plan to make this trip an annual family event.
