Located on breathtaking beautiful Torch Lake, this newly renovated Non-Smoking property features log exterior, natural wood interiors, one wood burning fireplace, gorgeous views of the lake, master bedroom with private bath offers spectacular views and the sound of crashing waves on the waterfront. Large Decks on both front and back of cottage.
During the summer months rentals run Friday to Friday.
Equally suitable for families with young children or older couples, it comfortably sleeps nine people in cottage. There is also a studio apartment available to rent that sleeps 6 more. Studio has full bath with mini kitchen. We have 100 feet of lakefront, a private dock . The lake's sandy bottom is shallow for a fair distance, making it ideal for children. The cottage sits on a private road with a woodsy setting. Its location on the east side of the lake affords spectacular views of the setting sun, especially from the large deck which overlooks the lake , custom fire pit. Tastefully decorated in a northern theme this cottage is fully equipment as a home away from home.
Located within 10 minutes of Shany Creek and Shuss Mountain.
Just got home from a long weekend at this rental cabin & had a great time. The cabin was warm & owners provided cut hardwoods on the front deck for easy access for the fireplace. The driveway was large and plowed, and had pleanty of room for our trailer & two pick-up trucks. Very quick access to trails. The house was clean, beds seemed fresh. Appliances worked, showers were hot. Very limited shopping and resterants in the area this time of year. Drove to the local ski resort for dinner twice, pleasent drive. Lake beautiful even with ice- wish I could post a photo in review.
My family has been going to torch for years and have stayed at many rental properties. This one has been our favorite for the price. The location is ideal. You can walk into downtown Alden for ice cream or to walk the shops. There is also a park par you can walk to. Close to boat launch, short trip to sand bar but far enough away to where you do not have a lot of boat traffic. The cottage does show some age to it and could use a little fixing up. However, "newer" or fresher cottages around here go for 4000+ a week. Looking at other reviews who said it's not worth the price have not researched other rentals on the area.
Although the house is modern, it needs some maintenance in order to validate the cost. Problems included no hot water in one shower, many burnt out light bulbs, ceiling fans not working, huge buzzing hornet nest plastered to one bedroom window, dishwasher did not work at times, stairs going to unit above garage unit were not secure, hand rails were loose, No air conditioning, front screen on door torn letting in bugs. Cottage is showing signs of wear and tear and needs numerous minor fixes. Beautiful lake, beautiful view (dead tree by fire pit needs to be cut down). Would expect basic upkeep of the house.
Just a follow up from my previous post: We just spent 4 days in Alden and found our time to be even more enjoyable than in the winter months! We were pleasantly surprised to find great weather, the dock available for use, new patio furniture, and plenty of beach towels and linens. We trailer-ed up our 19 ft fishing boat, put it in the water at the public launch in Alden (very nice, new wood docks!) and enjoyed the boat ride to the cottage. There were no bumpers available for us to use so we had to get creative during docking, and ended up having to make a trip to the local hardware store to buy some- just to forewarn you. Overall a great time, very comfortable, we only wish we had brought up some CD's.
This past winter we had a big family ski trip and this house easily fit me, my husband and our two kids, my mother and father in law, my sister in law and her daughter. We were offered a loft area above the garage, but opted not to take it. There are three rooms so each family had their own room. We skied Schuss and Shanty creek and it was about a 15 min drive to the slopes. We also spent a day in Traverse City, about 35 minutes, and with the mild winter driving was no problem (the driveway had an inch or so of snow on it though). The lake was beautiful even in the winter, and we drank coffee by the fire every morning! I just booked a week for May and we plan to bring our fishing boat, we were told we can tie of to the dock. I'll keep you posted on our summer stay.
Normally I am not big on doing reviews but I thought this one was a must.
My family has been going to this cottage for 2 years now. We were reccommended from a friend who stayed their previously. It was a cute cottage with lots of yard space. There is a large nice fire pit outside that we all enjoyed at night after a day of boating. The owners were really helpful and gave us directions on near by places to go and places to go on the water. Furthermore, they knew we had kids and asked if we wanted them to put up their badmitten net. Of course we said yes! We got there and the net was up with a spray painted court on the grass. I thought it was a thoughtful addition. Three days into the trip Laura contacted us to see if we needed anything. All of our linens were taken care of. This was a no stress weekend because everything was taken for us. The cleaning lady arrived as we left so we did not have to worry about changing towels or anything. As a working mom who takes care of all household duties as well, this was a relief.
We also rented the upstairs loft which was the perfect addition for our children. Adults in the cottage, children in the loft. They enjoyed it because they felt like they had their own space and we felt like we had ours too. Can you say family weekend/couples weekend all in one?
The cottage was clean, quant, spacious , yet cozy at the same time.
So I was recommended here and I thought I'd take the time to do the same. Enjoy your stay! I know I will be back this year!
