Our century old Caymanian cottage is located on the National Trust's Historical Walking Tour of old Caymanian homes on the sea side of Boggy Sand Road, West Bay, just off the main West Bay Road. The cottage is nestled in ancient seagrape trees at the northern end of world famous Seven Mile Beach and is in a residential area, away from the bustle of the main resort areas. Just off shore are some of the most popular dive sites on the western end of Grand Cayman. There are also shallower reefs for snorkeling with popular Cemetery Reef just a few hundred yards away. For landlubbers, the beach or the deck under the shade of the seagrape trees provide the ideal setting to enjoy a good book and a beverage. Rest and relaxation are guaranteed at this cozy seaside cottage.
Staying put: 'Rest Assured' is a renovated hundred year old Caymanian cottage offering modern amenities for exceptional comfort and convenience. The main bedroom is furnished with an antique four poster mahogany bed, the wood having come from an ancient mahogany forest in Cayman, along with other antique pieces. There is an ensuite bathroom with a large soak/jetted tub and separate shower. The rest of the furnishings in the cottage are tropical casual with local art providing the decor. An extra seating area is easily closed off to create an additional bedroom if needed. Full room sliding glass doors offer unobstructed views to the sea. There is a large porch with ceiling fans but the yard is shaded by ancient seagrape trees creating a cool place to relax either on the deck, in the swing or hammocks. The beach and the water are almost too close for comfort.
Getting out: Within walking distance of Rest Assured are local eateries, a full service grocery store, gas station, Presbyterian church as well as a small plaza with a bank, medical clinic, sandwich shop, photo shop and Internet service provider.
The world famous Boatswains Beach (formerly the Turtle Farm), Dolphin Cove, Dolphin Discovery, the new Motor Museum and Hell are just a short 3 mile drive away.
Within the district of West Bay are several well known eating establishments including Ristorante Pappagallo, Cracked Conch, Osetra Bay, Calypso Grill and Morgan's Harbour, all of which are also only a short drive away.
Our family has been in Cayman for 7 generations so if you have any questions about Cayman, its history, where to go and where to avoid, we will almost certainly be able to help!
Relax: Rest Assured offers the ultimate relaxation experience. A private chef, housekeeper and personal massage therapist can be arranged to cater to your personal requirements on advanced notice. We have traveled all over the Caribbean and have never had a better arrangement. Your Hostess Beth Roulstone is the most accomadating pleasant lady you will ever meet. The cottage is neat as a pin the ocean view and deck are wonderful. Beth is right across the street so she is easily accessable and even gave one couple alift as she was going out though I suspect not actually in the direction they needed. Ther is tremendous pride in ownership and care taken. She has kayaks masks snorkel and fins and is situated at the very north end of 7 mile beach where it is delightfully quiet. There is a quaint rustic daylight hours only seafood restaurant a block and a half away and a wonderful traditional restaurant 3 blocks to the north. Grocery short 3 block walk but closed on Sunday so shop Saturday or have to restaurant first day if is a Sunday - spirits and beer stores also closed on Sunday. Though it is not reccomended we found with a wetsuit the Kittawake is a great snorkel straightoff the shore but need to be a good swimmer watch for boats and heed the tide.
The cottage has all you need whirlpool bathtub laundry AC and can be open to the deck if you wish. Beth has about everything there except what you wish to bring to eat and drink. Lots of spices condiments excellent gas grill for grilling fresh catch fish which we bought from the fishermen downtown a few days after coming in from our Scuba trips. There is a TV in one bedroom we never turned it on as it was 16 degrees below zero at home and 78 degrees with a breeze on the deck. There is patio table under the eave if needed and an umbrella table on the most seaside part of the deck where we had morning coffee and watched the sun go down. Two nice bathrooms and showers hot water dishwasher fridge microwave.
Can nicely fit kids or family We were two couples and felt we each had our space.
This was one of the best arrangements we have ever had. We usually try to go somewhere with every new trip but Beth has us thinking about coming back to see her again and frequently!
The buses are easy to use, can call cabs and we rented a car as it was just more the style we like. Had to get used to driving on the left but that took about 15 minutes
This was our 6th VRBO rental and we have converted away from Hotels if we ever have the choice. You won't regret this one and you might have to compete with us for a week or two every January!!
Just got back from a wondeful stay at Beth's lovely cottage. It is such a special place tucked away from all the hussle and bussle of Seven Mile Beach. We were thrilled to have our own little house right on the beach. As said before, the location, in our opinion, couldn't have been more perfect. You are on the last residential street on Seven Mile and you feel like a local. It is ideal to rent a car so that you can go where you want. In just a few minutes you can be snorkeling near the turtle farm (we saw a turtle in the wild), or opposite direction, be in Georgetown, and in less than an hour you can drive to Rum Point. We drove all over the island and only had to fill up the tank once in a week. The food store is very close to the cottage. There are a few restaurants within walking distance (Alfescos, Tim Buc Tuu and our favorite local spot, The Heritage Kitchen).
Beth is so sweet and understanding. She was the best host. She went above and beyond-giving us mangos, squid for fishing out front and letting us check out late due to our flight time. She is an extremely kind person.
I'd recommend the cottage to a group of 2, 3 or 4... and if you have a big family, there are two, two bedroom apartments next door also. Forget about the Seven Mile fancy hotels... this is the best place in Cayman! (firstname.lastname@example.org)
My wife and I have just returned after 14 days in Beth's cottage. What a wonderful place, beach, snorkelling and diving right on your doorstep, restaurants, supermarket and buses only five minutes walk away. This has got to be the best place on Grand Cayman. Beth is a wonderful host and has a wealth of knowledge over the islands having come from 7 generations of Cayman family.
Really can't recommend it enough.
The cottage is located right on the north end of Seven Mile beach, away from all the crowds,so nice and peaceful.
Thanks Beth, 11 out of 10.
Beth is the perfect host and made our stay so easy and enjoyable. We (2 adults and a baby) spent two weeks in this gorgeous cottage and it was our favourite holiday. The location is perfect for relaxing, but within walking distance of the supermarket or the road to catch bus to places. There are two restauarants within walking distance (both of which are good and reasonably priced) and there are plenty of restaurants a bus or taxi ride away. Buses are easy and it's not really necessary to hire a car. The cottage is right on the beach and the views are just fantastic. It's heaven.... We can't wait to go back!
This is the greatest vacation haven - we have traveled the world and we continue to return to this little piece of heaven. This time another family joined us, they rented the cottage and we rented one of the duplex apartments. It is the perfect family setup. Grocery store around the corner and 5-star dining all over the island. Everything is always in good, working order and if there is anything you need, Beth will make sure that you have it. Snorkeling the reef out front is some of the best snorkeling on the island - and the beach is like your own private beach. It is the quiet part of 7-Mile beach. I highly recommend it, and don't forget the turtle farm. You may even see a turtle swimming in front of the cottage!
Well we just arrived home from a Vacation we won't forget, first let me just start by saying the home is exactly what the pictures show, actually even more precious and picture perfect then the photos...The owner is such a wonderful lady, the day we arrived (sunday) the Market was closed so she had some groceries there for us..If you have children this place is very children friendly from the Boats that are there for your use to the Beach which is right out side your back door (Perfect) The Cottage was very clean and very close to Market and Restaurants and only a Bus ride away from George town if you want to do some shopping...If your looking for a place to Relax and not be crowded by People this is the Home for you...We look forward to spending a week or so in a place where we can call it a HAVEN.....If you plan to just Relax and Snorkel you wont go far from your back door because that is where tour boats come to snorkel... and if your not going to do much traveling you would be better off taking the local Bus it takes you any where for $2 much cheaper then renting a car and much safer....We loved it and plan to return many more years....
Cayman's newest dive attraction, the US Navy ship 'Kittywake', was sunk right off our beach on 5th January 2011 in approximately 100' of water. Parts of the ship are only 5' below the water's surface which makes the short kayak paddle out worth the trip for both divers and experienced snorklers. Dive boat operators also run several guided trips daily to the ship from the nearby public dock in West Bay.
