Mark and Gigi Buhrow have owned the Captain's Cottage for almost 20 years. We also own and operate the Belle of Hot Springs Riverboat on Lake Hamilton and Gilligan's Lakeside Cafe. The Belle is a 200 passenger riverboat with sails Lake Hamilton for lunch, dinner and sight-seeing cruises. This is where the name 'Captain's Cottage comes from....Mark is a riverboat captain. Gilligan's is a lunch and dinner cafe located at the Belle Riverboat dock. Boaters, tourist and locals enjoy the Belle and Gilligan's. Mark and Gigi have four children and three grandchildren. They have lived in Hot Springs for over 25 years and love the relaxed atmosphere.
Captain Mark Buhrow purchased this house in 1992
Hot Springs is a great tourist town and buying the Captain's Cottage just seemed like a fun and smart investment.
We actually live right across the lake from our cottage and haven't really stayed there. Maybe we should try it sometime. Sounds like a good idea.
What a breath taking place and to think I found it on the internet. My son and I have been looking forward to this all summer and it is everything that we had hoped and then some. We will be back again and again!
Had a wonderful relaxing weekend! this place is right on the lake and convenient to all Hot Springs has to offer. This property is an excellent value!
We really enjoyed our time at the Captain's Cottage. The kitchen served our needs quite well. It is easily accessible for most people as it has no stairs and a ramp. We were disappointed to see black animal hair in the bed when we turned back the sheets the first night. However, the washer and dryer on sight made for an easy fix. We also wish the windows that do open would have had screens so we could have enjoyed the fresh fall air. Overall, it's a nice little place and we would recommend it for the price.
We arrived and picked up our key with no trouble. When we arrived at the house there was dog poop (possibly Goose) everywhere on the ground. When we walked inside the house smelled old and stale but that was nothing a candle couldn't fix. It was clean and everything worked. We had a good weekend and this was a great place to hang out hat at night.
The location is perfect, right at the lake. Kids had fun swimming in the lake. We loved the firm mattress. Kitchen is well-equipped. My wife had an allergy issue in the house -- maybe the sofas? Overall, very nice stay. Thanks to Mark and Gigi.
We loved staying here! The windows had just been replaced and some work done on the cottage and it was so comfortable and we loved the convenience to everything too. Our grandson loved the dock, as he spent hours out there practicing his casting techniques! It didn't hurt that we had perfect weather, but the view was absolutely wonderful. Everything we could possibly need was in the kitchen and we welcomed family for visits and everyone was so impressed with this cozy and very tastefully decorated little piece of paradise. We will definitely stay here again! What a treasure if you are visiting Hot Springs - one of our favorite places!
We stayed at the Captain's cottage for 2 nights over a weekend in August. Overall, it was a great time. The inside of the place was overall very clean and comfortable. The exterior needs some work cosmetically, but is sufficient enough for a place to crash. The dock is nice, and is fairly shallow off the pier (maybe 4 feet). The bottom is very rocky and has bricks and other things, so we would dive shallow and float as to not cut our feet on the rocky bottom. There are also weeds on the bottom which was kind of gross on your feet to walk through (bothered wife more so than myself). Overall, this isn't the "perfect" place to swim off the dock, but it sufficed! The location was great...right off of Central Avenue. Mark and Gigi were very easy to work with and allowed us to check in early as it was empty the day before our arrival. Overall in spite of the bit of a run-down look of the exterior, this place was nice and a great location to rent for a weekend. Would recommend.
