Barnacre Cottages is a small, exclusive,private hamlet of five luxury 5* Gold cottages in the Forest of Bowland. Rigorously inspected and graded anually, awarded the highest rating of 5* Gold. The first 5* cottages in Lancashire and winners of many local and national awards.

In an elevated location with spectacular views across the countryside to the coast.

Our own 14 acres of fields surrounded by woodland in an area designated of being of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

In the countryside, yet just a 30 minute walk to the nearby village of Scorton with a couple of eating places and the nearest pub. A walk in the other direction, through the footpaths and along the river is Garstang. A small, pretty market town with little shops,supermarkets and the weekly market held on the High Street every Thursday. Previous winners and regularly finalists of Britain in Bloom. A variety of pubs and eating places.

Situated midway between the cities of Preston and Lancaster. Busy Blackpool a 35 minute drive. We can even see Blackpool Tower and the Lake District in the distance from our elevated location.

The Old Stables, Piggeries and Partridge cottages were the original stone farm buildings of an 18th century farmhouse, converted into luxury cottages just a few years ago.

The Piggeries has undergone another major transformation during spring 2013 transforming it into a stunning, light filled cottage with 4 en suite bedrooms. Another cottage ideal for gatherings of friends, family and couples.

Woodpecker ( 6 bedrooms) and Mole End (3 bedrooms) were added in 2006 These two spacious detached cottages, built from new and designed with two en suite bedrooms each on the ground floor, have proved to be popular for those guests with mobility restrictions.

The interior design of each cottage is quality contemporary/cottage with Natuzzi leather or Tetrad sofas, and hand painted décor by a local artist. . Fantastic Mark Wilkinson Cooks kitchens, painted and oak with granite surfaces, fully equipped, four have Aga's, lots of crockery, crystal glasses, plastic ware for children.

All are fully equipped with Miele washing machines, tumble dryers, dishwashers, microwaves, Sky TV, WiFi, fridge and freezers. The welcoming open fires and wood burning stoves, logs and fuel included, provide everything to ensure a warm, comfortable stay.

We are resident owners and live next to the cottages. There is always a family member on hand to give assistance or information if required.

Our cottages and location are very child friendly. Down a quiet country lane, through a gateway and up a long private drive. Woodpecker, Piggeries, Old Stables and Mole End, each have at least one family bedroom containing a double and a single bed, making them suitable for parents and their child. Travel cots and highchairs are also provided free of charge for guests to use.

A big well equipped and maintained children’s play area and all weather doubles tennis court. Baby lambs in Spring for children and adults to help bottle feed. Pet chickens, egg collecting and our own pet ponies, Fluff and Ebony.

The cottages all have individual gardens and outdoor seating areas. We have BBQs available to borrow.

Open all year round for short breaks and longer stays. Suitable for family gatherings, special birthdays and celebrations.

Lots of tourist information in each of the cottages as well as on our own website.

Ideally placed for countryside activities, walks from our door, pony trekking, fishing, coarse and fly, clay shooting, quad biking, cycling, golf, even hedge laying courses!

Local events, country shows and festivals.

Sightseeing, historical cities and shopping: We have guests coming to stay with us from all over the world. Happy to drive a couple of hours to see famous places that they have read or heard about. One family from Australia went to 'see a wall some guy built' Hadrians Wall! They went off and came back the same day, distance no object. Here in the North of England, beautiful historical towns such as York and Chester can be reached in less than a couple of hours.

The famous football grounds of Manchester United, Old Trafford and Manchester City, the Etihad Stadium, plus Liverpool are just an hour away. The city centres of both these places are worth a visit. Manchester centre is a fantastic shopping place, with Selfridges and Harvey Nichols. The architecture of the Trafford Centre near Manchester. Loads of shops, Selfridges, plus the Orient eating area and cinemas. All under cover and free parking!

For discount shopping, the outlet areas of Cheshire Oaks, a smaller one at Freeport in Fleetwood, or even Boundary Mill at Colne are great for bargain hunters.

A superb 5 bedroomed (sleeps 11) cottage with a huge living/dining/kitchen room with magnificent fully equipped Mark Wilkinson American Oak kitchen, oak dining table seating 10/11, Aga cooker and Amana fridge/freezer dispensing chilled water and ice, dishwasher, microwave, laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer. Relaxing conservatory overlooking the large private garden opens off this room and has french doors out to the garden. The cosy living area has comfy Tetrad Eastwood sofas, woodburning stove, flat screen tv, dvd player and ipod dock. On the groundfloor is also a double bedroom, ideal for guests who have difficulty climbing stairs. Seprate ground floor shower room with toilet and wash basin. First floor double bedroom with en suite shower room, 2 twin bedrooms, family room with double and single bed This cottage is ideal for family gatherings and groups of friends. A first class, tastefully decorated cottage.

Thank you for such a wonderful weekend. The Old Stables offered us a perfect sanctuary after our walks in the Trough of Bowland. With such a beautiful kitchen, featuring everything you could possibly need and a warming Aga, we couldn't drag ourselves out to eat, but sat around the big wooden table to enjoy the local produce.The eggs you left were delicious. A real personal service, sadly lacking in lots of places these days.We could tell from the outset that you had lavished alot of care and attention on this cottage and it was a true home from home. Thanks again, we hope to return.

Barnacre Cottages is a small, exclusive, private hamlet of five luxury 5* Gold cottages in our 14 acres of fields surrounded by woodland in a location designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The cottages are inspected annually by the Quality in Tourism and have all been awarded the highest rating of 5* Gold and Mobility 1 assessed. We are also resident owners who are on hand to assist if required.

As well as our own domestic animals, there are also pet chickens, ponies and spring lambs around Easter time., We have a variety of visiting wildlife including deer, hares, rabbits, squirrels and a variety of birds including buzzards, woodpeckers and pheasants.

We are in a fantastic countryside location down a quiet country lane, away from busy roads and up a long driveway.

Situated between Preston and Lancaster. The cottages are within travelling distance of many attractions. With the market town of Garstang just over 5 minutes by car, Both Manchester and Liverpool international airports are just an hour away, including their famous football grounds (Manchester City and United), making our luxury cottages an ideal base for sightseeing guests. Including to the Lake District, Chester, York, Harrogate and Yorkshire Dales as well as those visiting family and friends in the area.

There are great country walks from our doorstep, including to the nearby village of Scorton via the many footpaths. You could walk a different route every day. Given the time, we walk out most morning with our dogs and sometimes the pony, through the fields and woods, stopping en route for a coffee and maybe a bacon sandwich at the Applestore Cafe or the Barn - guests are welcome to join us on these walks. The area hosts a number of local events each year, country fairs,walking, garden and flower festivals.

For seaside lovers,the famous town of Blackpool with the promenade and illuminations is just 35 minutes drive. These are switched on at the end of August and last until the end of October.

There is a large beach at Blackpool which comes complete with the traditional donkeys. However, as children we always went further around the coast to play on the sand dunes at St. Annes. This is the upmarket part of the coastline. Just a few miles further on is Lytham, which is another nice area to take a walk along the promenade and the 'green' with the windmill. The main street here is full of little shops and nice places to have a coffee and something to eat.

Other Activities: Pony trekking, Shooting days, both clay and pheasant. Quad biking, country craft courses. Hedge Laying.

Golf: Garstang town just over 5 minutes drive by car has a pay and play golf course. There are other local courses at Lancaster, Longridge and the famous Royal Lytham and Royal Birkdale are within easy travelling distance.

If you like visiting country manor houses, both Holker Hall and Leighton Hall have lovely gardens worth a visit as well as hosting country garden and craft festivals each year. Both less than an hours drive from here.

We have some guests coming to stay who also like to shop. The Trafford Centre Shopping Mall near Manchester has a large Selfridges and lots of other stores. It would be easy to spend a day here as there is a whole area of restaurants and a multiplex cinema, Legoland and Sea life centre.

Manchester City Centre also has quality shopping at Selfridges, Harvey Nichols, Kendalls and other smaller higher end shops.

There is discount Outlet shopping at Cheshire Oaks, Boundary Mill and Freeport.

Liverpool, again just an hours drive away, with a new shopping and cultural area at Liverpool1. Plus, the famous city of the Beatles and the famous Cavern club!

All five cottages and our website, have an abundance of tourist information with suggestions of places to visit and lots of ideas of places for children. Including visiting local attractions like the Wild Boar Park just 30 minutes away, Sea Life Centre, Legoland, Madame Tussauds, Blackpool Tower Circus even indoor skiing.

You might just wish to relax and enjoy our location. The cottages all have private gardens with outdoor seating areas. There is an all weather doubles tennis court and a large childrens play area with swings,slide, climbing frame, playhouse and fort. Guests are also welcome to use the 7 acre field for ball games or picnics.

Notes:
Conservatory leads to a large private garden for the exclusive use of guests staying in the Old Stables with out door seating and dining furniture. To the rear, leading from the kitchen is also an enclosed paved area safe and secure suitable for young children. Although we are in the middle of the countryside and all the cottages have thick stone walls, we do have a free broadband WIFI system via antennae installed, accessed by a password. Occasionally guests travelling from abroad have had to adjust the settings on their laptops to gain access. The ground floor bedroom makes this cottage particularly suitable for groups with guests who have difficulties climbing stairs.
