The Mississippi Hillside Cabin can be compared to the Keokuk Geode. It may not look like much from the outside but one you get inside, it SPARKLES & SHINES! The owner has planted a variety of blooming plants and shrubs with lawn ornaments scattered throughout the property. The clutch of ducks wander down during the day to the water inlet coming off the Mississippi River to take a dip. You can sit outside on the deck and watch the barges slowly troll up & down the river. At night, there are thousands of lightning bugs flashing off & on. If you look up, the fireflies are Mother Nature's display of little, white holiday lights outlining & running throughout the boughs of the trees. Then there is the Milky Way's stellar show shining down upon you! Gorgeous. Peaceful. It must be spectacular during a meteor shower! Inside the cabin, there is plenty of room for a family of four. My son of 21 years said I "did good" in selecting this place to stay for 3 nights.The kitchen is well-stocked with dishes & silverware. The owner checked to make sure we had clean towels if we needed them. It was just the right amount of hospitality. The sun rises early in the summer, around 5:00, so if you are not a morning person you may want to bring a sleeping mask. If you are a morning person, the sun rising over the river will perfect in getting you off to an early start to explore the geode display at the Holiday Inn or play one of the disc golf courses in Rand Park or across the river in Illinois. You can explore the dam and watch a barge go through the locks or take a drive along Grand Avenue to admire the majestic, historic homes. The stain glass windows in St. John's Episcopal Church, including 3 angels made by Tiffany, are exquisite! My 19 year old daughter's one request on our 4,525 mile trip was to get photographs of her and her brother under the state signs saying "Welcome to ..." which in Keokuk means you can get photographs of Iowa, Missouri and Illinois signs. Whether you choose to explore the tri-state area where the Mississippi River is at it's widest or just find a quiet place to rest, relax and do nothing, the Mississippi Hillside Cabin is a great place to call you "HomeAway" from home.

I've been so lucky they all have cleaned up the rental before leaving. And it is great meeting new people. I've had cute little notes from the kids saying they didn't want to leave and some call it their home away from home. They love feeding the ducks & chickens. The ones that come back seem like old friends.
I'm going to put a comment book over there. So if anyone wants to leave a note or send me a picture it would be great.
