Nice, but wouldn't go back
Nice, but wouldn't go back

We stayed at the cabin for the weekend as one couple of four - 8 people in their mid-thirties... came from as far away as California and Ocean City, MD. There were great features, but some note-worthy draw backs as well.
The cabin is clean, well constructed, and roomy. We arrived in 100 degree heat, but the AC cooled the entire house within a few hours after arriving. We were very comfortable and the kitchen was indeed well equiped.
However, I was less than happy with a few things...
The driveway to the get the key was a one mile, incredible steep driveway. Anyone who is not used to such driving will be scared, and scared for your car. My husband drove our Honda Accord up it and struggled. If I was by myself, I wouldn't have even attempted it. Since my group didn't know who would arrive first, by coincendence our friends came up the driveway a minute after us. The lodge owner/property manager "greeted" us by coming out the door and sneering "That's why I told you to read the contract!"(since only one person needs to do this), he was less than friendly to say the least... a "welcome, hope you had a nice drive" would have been more appreciated. The driveway to Eagle's Haven was not an easy one either - if you have a 4 wheel drive that you love to put to the test, you will LOVE this place. Additionally, there were only 6 bath towells for 8 people, and I only found the beach towells as we were leaving - they're in the game closet. Lastly, there wasn't even dishwasher liquid there to use - although the clean-up directions state to run the dishwasher. There's no stores nearby, so bring everything that you need.
Despite these little complaints, my friends and I had a great time. The highlight activity was floating on tubes down the river - the nearby Eagle's Next Outfitters is fantastic and will arrange everything for you. It's a beautiful area!

Owner's Response: Amy,
We are pleased that you found our cabin to be clean, roomy, with a well-equipped kitchen and an efficient ac, especially during this heat wave that can tend to elevate emotions.
There are usually 2 sets of towels hanging in each bathroom, as well as a supply in the cabinets. We always try to have some cleaning supplies on hand, such as dishwashing detergent, laundry detergent, etc. for our guests. All of our guests may and should contact the managers when they have any questions about where something is located or if they feel something is missing. Your comments provide us with an opportunity to remind our housekeeping to continue to check to make sure all of our supplies are on hand.
We do provide explicit details on who should receive the key and who should wait at the bottom (to save time, gas, etc.). Due to the recent rain storms, the drive up wasn’t at its best, but unfortunately, we do not have control over Mother Nature. We understand how unfamiliar mountainous roads can be scary to some and exhilarating to others, although, many people find that to be a part of the charm to our getaway in WV.
We are glad that you and your friends had a great time and will try to see that these little misunderstandings don’t happen again. We hope that in the future you will be ready for another wild and wonderful WV adventure.
Appreciate your feedback.
