We love being able to bring our dogs here!
Beautiful, peaceful and many trails for hiking with your 'best friend'!
Our cabin is private and secluded for your peaceful vacation. Enjoy the outdoors without 'roughing it'.......it's like camping without the tent!
We stayed at the Eagle's Haven in Feb 2014. Though some of our group couldn't make it at the last minute, even if they had - this house would still have been more than we needed! We loved the spacious rooms.. Open living room/dining/kitchen area surrounded by the wonderful gated deck. The canines loved sunbathing in that deck while we enjoyed the hot tub, though we thought something to block the almost constant breeze from chilling you so much while in the hot tub would have made it feel warmer. Brr! Loved the grill on the deck right outside from the kitchen. We thought about making a fire in the fire ring, but it was a bit chilly and damp to gather wood. Better instructions, maybe a diagram, to figure out how to turn the shower on in the downstairs bathroom would have helped a great deal too. The coffee pot leaked when we first used it, and the new one was delivered the next morning. (We informed them about midday/evening time.) The downstairs movie viewing and upstairs gaming time were both hits! People and canines all had a great time! Hope we get the chance to stay again! And maybe next time we will make it to the ponds, (signs showing which way to go would help.. Though the slick roads would have kept us either way I think.) It was neat to drive down the road and see the other rentals. If we ever come back as a smaller group, we may try one in the future. Still, I think we'd all love a return trip to Eagle's Haven, though hopefully with more snow!
We chose Eagle's Haven as a "change of venue" for an annual fishing trip our group of friends from several different states has been holding for a number of years. Also decided to change it from a "guys-only” weekend to family-oriented thing this time around. We had a group of 10 including spouses and two 10-year-old youngsters. We definitely found a winner with this location. We all loved it and will return for a longer stay next year.
We never met the managers/owners in person. However, they had been very helpful and prompt in answering questions by e-mail in advance of the trip. Moreover, it turned out they had clearly done their homework and anticipated most questions a guest might have during their stay. Hence, we never had any need to contact them while we were there. Driving directions were excellent. The cabin is very spacious, comfortable and charming. It was perfectly clean when we arrived. Meticulously maintained as well. We were pleasantly surprised to find it was much better stocked with cleaning supplies and paper goods than we were expecting (we'd brought all our own stuff in this respect, actually). All of the electrical switches, etc. are labeled so you don't have to fiddle to find out what switch turns on what. The cabin also contained a folder with clear instructions on how to operate everything. Owners seem to have solved any earlier issues with the 1 mile road to get the keys by implementing an easier system. We did not have to drive that particular road to get the keys first.
The area is beautiful, with great views from the porch. Would be absolutely breathtaking during peak of the fall foliage. South Mill Creek Lake is very close, offering fishing, boating, walking trails and pic-nic area. Fishermen should check the WV DNR web site since there are a couple of special regulations that apply to the lake, which don't apply elsewhere in the state.
I was already familiar with this part of Grant County before our stay at Eagle's Haven. So, already knew it was off the beaten path. Made double sure our group had all the food/drinks/toiletries/bait/ice, etc. we needed for our stay. Folks visiting there for the first time, though, should keep in mind that the nearest stores are 10 to 15 miles away in Petersburg or Moorefield. So, if you arrive and find you forgot to pack something, there's no such thing as "making a quick run out" to buy it.
Again, we had a great stay and were very happy with everything. We’ll definitely be coming back.
We stayed at the cabin for the weekend as one couple of four - 8 people in their mid-thirties... came from as far away as California and Ocean City, MD. There were great features, but some note-worthy draw backs as well.
The cabin is clean, well constructed, and roomy. We arrived in 100 degree heat, but the AC cooled the entire house within a few hours after arriving. We were very comfortable and the kitchen was indeed well equiped.
However, I was less than happy with a few things...
The driveway to the get the key was a one mile, incredible steep driveway. Anyone who is not used to such driving will be scared, and scared for your car. My husband drove our Honda Accord up it and struggled. If I was by myself, I wouldn't have even attempted it. Since my group didn't know who would arrive first, by coincendence our friends came up the driveway a minute after us. The lodge owner/property manager "greeted" us by coming out the door and sneering "That's why I told you to read the contract!"(since only one person needs to do this), he was less than friendly to say the least... a "welcome, hope you had a nice drive" would have been more appreciated. The driveway to Eagle's Haven was not an easy one either - if you have a 4 wheel drive that you love to put to the test, you will LOVE this place. Additionally, there were only 6 bath towells for 8 people, and I only found the beach towells as we were leaving - they're in the game closet. Lastly, there wasn't even dishwasher liquid there to use - although the clean-up directions state to run the dishwasher. There's no stores nearby, so bring everything that you need.
Despite these little complaints, my friends and I had a great time. The highlight activity was floating on tubes down the river - the nearby Eagle's Next Outfitters is fantastic and will arrange everything for you. It's a beautiful area!
We held our annual family gathering at Eagle's Haven this past August and needless to say that we will definitely be coming back next year. There are 4 whole bedrooms and another kids playroom with 3 twin beds, with so many accommodations for sleeping - everyone was comfortable.
Between the wrap around patio, hottub, gas grill, hammocks, fully apportioned kitchen, plenty of bathrooms, the view, near-cabin hiking, big-screen TV, closet full of games, baby crib, you name it.. this place has it ALL for both adults and young ones alike!
As we traveled the lovely scenic roads to our mountain getaway the meadows and mountains were magnificent. The name Eagle's Haven cabin is a misnomer, it is not a cabin but a charming log home that has everything a family might need to enjoy a weekend or more. The spacious kitchen and dinning room has everything a chef would require. The living room is comfortable and can accommodate a large family and friends. The views of the mountains are absolutely spectacular from each room in the house and the wrap-around porch. No need to worry about sleeping space, this log home has enough room for all.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to return.
this was great getaway!
be warned..no cell reception. but that was part of the charm.
we arrived on a rainy night and loved the fireplace.
the next day was sunny and we loved the hammocks and hot tub even more!
watch out for ticks around the lake (but this goes without saying in the woods, right?).
the ponds were a little yucky but we think this was because of the huge rain from the first night.
the house was fully stocked, clean and wonderful!
Our WV cabins are surrounded by mountain and wilderness views.
Located between the George Washington and Monongahela National Forests, which features Seneca Rocks and Dolly Sods Wilderness Area.
There are 2 ponds located on LTD Property, each with a deck and are stocked with a variety of native fish. South Mill Creek Lake, which is adjacent to our property, is a 50 acre lake that is stocked with native fish by the state of WV. Fishing and canoeing are an enjoyable activity at the lake. The South Branch of the Potomac River flows through Smoke Hole Canyon (one of our favorite places) which is a 20 minute drive from Eagle's Haven.
Four-wheel drive vehicle recommended in winter:)
