About this property

Spectacular Getaway at Pt. Reyes National Seashore

Located in the hills of West Marin County, this home overlooks water, wetlands and the quaint town of Point Reyes Station, while surrounded by the tranquility of organic farming, miles of scenic Northern California hiking trails, kayaking, bird-watching, and oyster farms.

This refuge from the world was designed by Robert Swatt of Swatt | Miers Architects has won numerous design awards, recognition in architecture publications and because of its design and privacy, continues to be a sought after site for commercials and photo shoots. Cadillac, BMW, Acura, Behr Paint, and Restoration Hardware, to name a few, have all used this home in their advertising.

Minutes to the Point Reyes National Seashore Beaches, Amazing Hiking and Wildlife you are also a day trip to San Francisco & Wine Country. San Francisco is an easy trek over the Golden Gate bridge, or by Larkspur Ferry across the Bay.

For the Thalassophile, there are beaches, surfing, ocean kayaking, sea cave explorations, and of course, Humpback, Gray Whale and Great White migrations. The Gray Whale migrations are southbound in January and northbound with their calves in late March / April. The Great White Shark finding expeditions to the Greater Farallon National Marine Sanctuary take place in Sept. / Oct. Often you can see the whales from the beach. Additionally, the Tomales Bay Bioluminescence kayak trips are in spring and fall and water activity rentals are to be found in town. However, you can find your beach bag here ready to go.

If Wine is your passion, spend your days tasting and touring the wineries of Sonoma, Russian River, Dry Creek, and Napa to name a few, also about an hour or so away.
Some of the other fun places to experience while here...
Tahoe skiing is 4 hours away.
Yosemite hiking is 4 hours (But no need to travel too far, hiking the local National Seashore is fantastic, and draws people from all over the world).

Once you have your wine, or are famished from a day of hiking and/ or beach fun, cooking in the gourmet kitchen is a joy. The view from the kitchen is magnificent, stocked with quality home / commercial equipment, and the wonderful farmer's market goods, anyone will feel like a chef. If you can't get enough of outdoor activities and cooking & dining "al fresco" is to your taste, there is a commercial gas grill and ample seating on the patio.
Better yet, just grab a glass of wine and relax on the patio and watch the sunset reflect on the water below.

At the end of the day, too exhausted from hiking, beach or wine to continue, or, just want to curl-up with a good book, you have a choice of two bedrooms.
The master bedroom has a comfy latex California King mattress with quality linens. The master bath has a separate shower & soaking tub, with a towel warmer, bidet and double sinks, also with quality bath linens. The Spa / Hot tub is off the master bedroom patio, but also accessible to the other rooms.

The second bedroom has a comfortable queen size bed, quality linens and en suite bathroom with shower. And it's own patio.
There is a additional half-bath downstairs.
This home has reliable wireless service throughout the house.
There are no pets allowed in the home, but no doubt you will have a chance to view the numerous "wildlife pets" who make their home in the forest or hills surrounding this home.

A Note from our most recent guests- December 2019 (the review came in late):
“Architectural Gem”
"Everything about this house is as close to perfection as possible. The decor is simple yet elegant, the property secluded and private. The home’s front wall of windows offers nonstop views of Tomales Bay and the surrounding hills to the east. Every morning we sat at the small kitchen table and watched the fog move about until it disappeared and in the evenings the sky turn from dusk to dark. The soaking tub in the master bath was much appreciated after a day hiking some of the park’s trails. Excellent restaurants are nearby but the gourmet kitchen had whatever we needed when we decided to eat in. We would love to come back again."

Experience the Point Reyes National Seashore in style!
I would give this home one hundred stars if I could. Stacy’s home is truly a ‘spectacular getaway’ - It is clear that no expense was spared in creating and appointing this world-class architectural gem where quality is infused throughout. This is a dream spot for anyone who is into architecture and/or interior design. As a scientist who conducted her postdoctoral studies at the Salk Institute, I came to appreciate the work of Louis Kahn. I see and feel several parallels between Louis Kahn’s creative genius and the work of Robert Swatt on the design of this home (particularly in the play of light). A tremendous amount of thought went into the interior and exterior lighting, which can be adjusted to accommodate any mood. We spent most of the time enjoying the views of Tomales Bay from the patio around the fire ring. If you enjoy preparing your own meals, this is definitely the place for you! The spacious and professionally-appointed kitchen and the patio offer some of the best views the property has to offer, although you may enjoy spectacular views from virtually every point in the home. This is a ‘must’ stay for enjoying the beauty of Tomales Bay and the Point Reyes National Seashore!

Lovely home and view
This is our second stay and simply put, there is no better rental on the bay…it sits up high and the views are incredible. The patio is so comfortable and offers vistas like no other. Stacy is attentive to everything and always available to help with answers if we have any questions. The property is well located in the Pt. Ryes area, never a worry over nothing to do! Highly, highly recommend.

Love to travel, collect wine, art, and cook. When at home, I enjoy the beauty of Northern California, being in this amazing place, growing olives, fruit trees and hanging-out at the beach.

Why they chose this property

This fabulous home sits high in the hills overlooking Tomales Bay in Marin County California. There are a few homes located close to us, but it is fairly private.
The Inverness, Point Reyes, Bolinas areas are a highly sought after tourist destination for people who love the outdoors, or just spending time away from the city. The driveway to our home is steep, so you do not get many unplanned visitors, but the neighbors are very friendly and unique.
The front of the home has magnificent water views, while the back of the home is wooded, and a great place to forage for chanterelle mushrooms.
It is surrounded by wildlife, deer grazing in the yard is a usual sight, as are quail families, and due to the fact that you are so high in the hills you have a birds-eye view of hawks, osprey, peregrine falcons and migrating waterbirds. Some of the local area farms overlooking the ocean have been around since the late 1800's.
