Photos and Description of the Manzanillo vacation villa rental
4 Bedrooms - 2 Baths - (Sleeps 10)

This home is not a 'lodge or camp' house unlike the few rentals available in the refuge. It is the landowner's personal vacation home and was built to enjoy all the comforts of home with a oceanfront setting. Fall asleep listening to the gentle waves of the Caribbean Sea and wake to the chatter of monkeys in the yard. Enjoy meals on the huge patio and decks with the sight and sound of the sea as your entertainment.

This is a two-level structure with a complete home on each level. (A partial kichen is on the lower level). For small families the two-bedroom upper level will accommodate four guests. For a large family or group, both levels will give extra privacy for up to 10 persons. Since the home is located in the protected Gandoca Manzanillo Wildlife and Marine Refuge there are no motorized vehicles in the refuge to disturb you or wildlife.

Further details for this vacation villa rental in Manzanillo, Costa Rica

This new, beautifully hand-crafted home is located on the southeastern Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and nestled in the Gandoca Manzanillo National Wildlife and Marine Refuge. It sits just 50 meters from the shoreline of one of the most remote and unspoiled beaches in Costa Rica. The tropical rainforest of the Talamanca Mountains serves as the home's backdrop.

Guests, however, may drive to the home to bring in luggage and other provisions. If the creek at the entrance of the refuge is too high to drive across (rarely) arrangements will be made to get your luggage to and from the house.

The home is a beautiful, scenic drive through the Braulio National Park. Past spectacular waterfalls, mountains, and rainforest areas. It takes approximately four hours from the San Jose Juan Santamarie International Airport in San Jose to reach Manzanillo.

All the comforts you need WITHOUT THE TOURISTS!

Review Submitted: January 9, 2012 Date of Stay: December 2011
The accommodation was very comfortable with a well furnished and well situated house. Having a porch to relax on while sipping on good CR rum during the evenings while looking out to sea through palms trees should say it all. Gena and company were all very conscientious and always wanting to ensure we were happy at all times. Jungle tour with Tino ....a guide who knows his stuff, fishing with Muche, zip-lining were all organized by Gena and are all highly recommended .... no need to research, just ask Gena. And then there's Gena and Mammi's cooking ... lobster prepared by a hilarious pair followed by dinner on the rear porch while listening to evening jungle sounds!

Beautiful Vacation Home in the Jungle

Review Submitted: March 17, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2009
This is a great little home located in the rain forest. It was clean, well maintained and cutely decorated. It is located in a quite little, tropical town located on the water. On our visit we did the local jungle, dolphin, zip line, chocolate tours. We also visited the sloth rehabilitation center and rented horses. All tours were fun and inexpensive. My son rented a surf board and took surfing lessons at a nearby beach.

I would highly recommend you visit the local Italian restaurant. It was incredible. All the food at Maxi's (the local bar) is also great. I recommend the fish and lobster.

I would highly recommend this house to anyone who wants to get away from the normal tourist traps. It is nice, quite and there is plenty of local activities to keep you busy.

Paradise....That's What I'm Talking About!

Review Submitted: September 3, 2010 Date of Stay: August 2010
My Wife and I, as well as our three kids, had a great time visiting Costa Rica. It had a lot to do with staying at this property located in Manzanillo.
The property is not easy to find (w/o directions and a guide for the last 1/2 mile). But I have to tell you...once you get there, it was worth the drive.
The beaches in Manzanillo and close proximity city of Puerto Viejo are all very nice, with one beach having very calm waves and another having large waves with strong undercurrents. Kayaking, hiking, Monkey watching, and Zip lining are all either at your door step or a short drive away. My family likes adventure and that's what we got with this vacation.
For those that want to get away, have some privacy, and enjoy a Rain Forest adventure, this is the place to stay.

Definately Paradise!

Review Submitted: November 19, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
We go to Costa Rica twice a year and have stayed here both times this year. We will be trying to book it again for next year. VERY clean and nice house with the perfect location for relaxation and beauty. My favorite place by far. Loved sitting on the front deck and watching wildlife or reading. Just make sure you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle and you'll have a great vacation. The location of the house is such that you get great breezes off the beach and can listen to the surf rolling in at night. Absolutely beautiful house and property with a lovely beach just footsteps away. Can't wait to go back.

Get away from it all!

Review Submitted: April 14, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
We were looking for an area in Costa Rica where you could get a feel for the "real" Costa Rica, not an Americanized resort. We found the perfect place. I had some doubts about driving through the creek to get to the house, but it was no problem at all. From Limon, we continued driving straight down the coast until we got to Maxi's restaurant and had the bartender call Chena. She met us on her bike and we followed her along the beach and through the creek to get to the house. Everything in Kathy's very informative letter was exactly as she described it. The front and back porches on the upper level were great. The hammocks on the large porch on the lower level were perfect too. We spent time there watching the ocean, wildlife, reading and talking. We didn't miss television or a computer at all. The beach and the ocean were right there and were beautiful. Some mornings, we were the only ones on the beach as far as we could see. It is a short walk on the beach to Manzanillo. Maxi's had very good food and cold cerveza. The grocery there had everything we needed. The mangoes and pineapple were delicious. The Costa Rican coffee was great. We drank the water from the tap and used water from the tap to make coffee all week and had no problems. There is a small French restaurant in Manzanillo that served really good crepes for breakfast. Other restaurants that we enjoyed that were between Manzanillo and Puerto Viejo were El Refugio grill that was owned by some folks from Argentina. The food was great. La Pecora Nera was fabulous, the folks were from Tuscany. Shawahanda Lodge (or something close to that) was beautiful and good but a little pricey. We had Chena and Mommie cook for us one night at the house and it was great. Chena arranged a jungle canopy tour for us and it ended up being really fun. There were 15 zip lines and at the beginning was more than I bargained for, but after a few tries I got better at it and it was fun. Puerto Viejo is a funky little surfer town that we enjoyed. At night, the ocean is so close it just lulls you to sleep. All the people we met in Costa Rica were very friendly and nice. We rented a car in San Jose from CR car save and Michael met us at the airport and drove us to our hotel that night. He provided great service. Can't wait to go back!
