Wonderful Gloucester Oceanfront home. Home offers a deep water dock for kayaking, fishing and relaxation in the ocean air. Wingaersheek Beach is visible from the home and is a short 5 minute kayak ride away. Kayaks and stand-up paddle boards can be rented nearby and delivered to the home. Spend the day kayaking to the nearby coves (Lobster Cove, Goose Cove and Jones Creek) exploring marshlands and watching snowy egrets. Take in the home's sweeping ocean views from almost all rooms in the house. You can see Ipswich Bay, Wingearsheek Beach, and the Annisquam River. On a clear day you can see all the way to the New Hampshire shoreline from the dining area. Enjoy your morning relaxing with ocean views on the wrap around 3 season porch. Plus a spacious waterfront deck for outdoor dining. Neighborhood public right of way access to the mouth of the Mill River for bass fishing, beautiful sunsets and exploring tidal flats. 3 mile driving distance to beaches and public train service to Boston. Newer kitchen including adjacent dining area with spectacular views, spacious family room, living room, and wrap around screened in waterfront porch.
Dock usage: The dock is available for lounging, swimming, fishing, and launching small craft such as kayaks or canoes. Also a great spot to catch local stripers.
Renting our home with children: We do rent to families with children. As with any waterfront property regular adult supervision is required if children are near the waterfront and imperative while children are on the dock. Peak tidal currents ( the middle third of each incoming and outgoing tide) can be very strong in the river and around the dock. There is a small beach at the end of the street ( 3 minute walk) accessible at low to mid tide, that is best suited for younger children.
It is a large property with great areas for the kids to explore at low tide right in front of the house. The river and the tidal flats are feeding and nursing grounds for many aquatic creatures: crabs, periwinkles, eels, starfish, minnows and raven fish to name a few; are all right there for kids to explore. Enough to keeps the kids occupied for hours.
Please note: Owner's reserve the right to access their boats on the property dock and nearby mooring during rental periods. Owner's will board their boats and depart for the day. The owner's will respect tenant's privacy while on the property and the owner's will not enter the home without prior tenant permission.
This is a family owned home that we have owned for 4 generations. Come and experience for yourself what keeps bringing us back to this very special home.
Karen Odell purchased this house in 1940
You can't beat the views!
We stayed four couples from Iceland in this beautiful Riverside home for 10 days. The house is a family owned country home and is well equipped. Great to have morning coffee on the patio facing the river. The owners are very helpful.
Many thanks form us
This home is simply delightful. The house is much nicer then it appears in the photos. Even with the unseasonably cool and wet weather we enjoyed the waterviews from the many picture windows in the kitchen/dining area and enclosed porch. The house is immuculate and well stocked. The beds are comfortable and there is plenty of linen. The rooms are cozy and inviting and uncluttered. The one and a half baths was sufficent for the ten of us.
The location is perfect for exploring the waterways in the kayaks the house provides. The information about the area and the house provided by the owners was thorough and helpful. We finally did get sunshine the day we had to check out and would have loved to stay.
We enjoyed celebrating my daughter's High School Graduation in this home away from home. The only drawback was having no heat on the first floor due to an issue with the circulator which did effect our evenings for three nights and had us retire earlier. But we did get to meet some very friendly neighborhood local firefighters who tried to remedy the situation.
We would loved to return sometime in the future to enjoy this home during a time with more sunshine.
Great north shore location. We spent much time in Gloucester, Rockport, and Salem and also ventured into Boston one day. The house was very comfortable for my family of eight. It was extremely clean and very well maintained. Extremely nice property with pleasant owner. AAA+++
My family members and I stayed in this beautiful home. We were two adult couples and my 26 yr old son. I want this review to add more info to the two reviews before me. Everything they stated was absolutely accurate.
Some things not mentioned are:
This home is meticulously clean and fresh (and I am fussy). Comes with tons of linens. Wash & dry machines in basement.
This home is close to everything on Cape Ann. Additionally, my son took a ride into Boston on a Sat. night to meet friends. We ate out frequently; the restaurants (both local and fancy) are great!
The 180 degrees panoramic window and deck views are of the river including a sailboat-filled marina. Fish jumping, seagulls and sea ducks--You feel privileged to sit at that dining table view! Leaves you breath-less!
The house is a combination of old and new. Filled with the character of a vintage home, woodwork, floors, styling; but updated where necessary, kitchen, baths, doors and windows. The owners have furnished it to represent this wonderful combo styling.
We were lucky enough to meet Eileen (one owner) she walked us around the property and filled us with stories of the house and the family’s past. It was delightfully interesting.
The house is comfortable to just sit around, big enough to wander around and waterfront located to make you feel like royalty. The closest beach (Wingaersheek) is a 20 min. drive. Worth the drive. You can’t step out the doors onto the deck, (there is a studio apt. there) but, we walked out the kitchen and down the side of the house and sat on the deck all the time. My family likes to kayak--dropping the kayak into the river right off the backyard boat dock is amazing! I highly recommend this property. I rate it excellent.
This is such a beautiful home in just THE best location. Not only is in on the lovely Annisquam River with it's spectacular views but the home is central to Gloucester, Rockport, Rocky Neck, Ipswich, Salem ,etc. (Just to name a few great nearby towns) The home is also close to the most amazing Wingaersheek and Good Harbor Beaches as well as others. The home is very big, inviting, comfortable and exceptionally clean with ALL the comforts of home.
The neighbors are friendly, if you have the opportunity to see one. The area is quiet and relaxing. My husband caught a huge Striped Bass right from the deck in the back yard. The kids set out crab traps and managed to catch a few crabs as well. I enjoyed the sunsets and watching the tides roll in and out while watching colors dance on the water.
Something for everyone at this great home.
This home included everything from the description, plus some. We ate almost all of our meals in the house and had all the dishes, pots, pans and other cookware that we needed. The house was clean and in good shape and the owners were kind and helpful. There were beautiful flowers around the house, and a fun little area at the end of the yard to explore when the tide was out.
We are from the area and wanted a place to relax with our out-of-state family and this house provided a great location for that. The views of the ocean were beautiful. There was plenty of room for everyone (9 of us) to gather together for meals and fun time, but also plenty of areas to spread out when space and quiet were desired.
The ages of our family members ranged from 5 yrs old to 78 yrs old, and everyone was very comfortable here. There were games for our kids to play and great books about the Gloucester area for the adults to browse and enjoy.
The neighborhood was quiet and the neighbors were very friendly. People in their yards would smile and wave as we drove by. We felt very comfortable in the house and neighborhood.
I would definitely recommend renting this property, and if we have a group of family visiting again, we'll definitely be contacting Bob!
