Savannah Townhome Rental Photos and Description

3 story, 4 BR / 2.5 BA Handsome Historic Manor

Stylish luxury & antique ambience blend w/21st century convenience in the Taylor Manor. This 1870 historic home is the perfect 'home away from home'. You'll LIVE in Savannah's coveted downtown! The handsome Manor & its former Carriage House (renamed Taylor Cottage & rented out separately from the Manor) were lovingly restored in 2001 by the current owners who now live next door to the Manor and rent out both the Manor and the Cottage separately.

When you rent Taylor Manor, you'll enjoy all sights/sounds & activities of Savannah's historic district from your doorstep! The Manor is decorated handsomely with a stylish, historic ambience. Yet, even so... you'll find homey, thoughtful touches throughout as well. Having raised our own children while living ourselves (for years) in the Manor, we know the needs our guests will have. And owner proximity means 'well-maintained'. (Of course, if you're a group who doesn't want an owner right next door...for sooo many possible reasons :)....the Manor is not for you! But 9 years of successfully renting out the Manor to guests who 'haven't' minded the owner proximity.... means most of the guests love a home where high cleanliness standards are enforced and problems if they arise (which is rare) are promptly addressed.

Our aim when you stay in the Taylor Manor is that you don't feel like you're in a vacation rental 'house', but that you're living in a 'home'. No sofa sleepers to tip-toe by or stumble over. Instead, you'll find 4 bedrooms each with a unique themed-decor. The second floor has three Queen-sized Bedrooms. The 3rd floor "Attic" Bedroom has a Queen, Full and Twin bed so sleeps another five guests in comfort. So groups as large as 11 people will feel comfortably at home in the Taylor Manor. Family heirlooms & antiques & even the over 400 year-old pine countertops of the Manor kitchen ...have colorful stories attached and high sentimental value means an owner who wants guests who will care about my home as they would their own. My home becomes...your home.

Best of all... as owners and guests ourselves...we believe that serious a must! Expect to find everything you need at your fingertips. Beds & leather furnishings are comfy, comfy, comfy! Groups large or small will enjoy the flowing traffic pattern of the Manor. High ceilings, tall windows, & the roomy floor plan itself bequeaths a spacious airyness throughout Taylor Manor. Closets are roomy (which is great since closets, period, are true rarities in any historic home!) Pet friendly yet...hypoallergenic! (It's because of the decor :).... You won't find heavy, musty carpets and drapes. Instead, sunshine spills past light/sheer curtains and past plantation blinds onto polished, original, heartpine floors, marbled hallways and the terracotta tiled Kitchen floors. No upholstery or heavy rugs for dustmites to hide! Comfortable furnishings of leather and wood lend to the stylish ambience. The antique Dining Room table and Antique Oak Dinette easily accommodates up to eleven for meals. The "Cooks" Kitchen (along with the rear driveway and roomy closets) is the 3rd rarity in any historic home's huge! It has a bit of a Quaker-esque feel.

All in all...our 145 year-old, historic Manor provides guests with the ambience of the 19th century and all the comforts of the 21st! We especially like water.....Enjoy the jetted whirlpool tub/ shower or stretch out...waaaay out in our antique 6' claw tub/shower. A convenient half bath is located on the first floor as well. Best of all, soothe sore muscles earned while exploring downtown soaking in our Outside Hot Tub surrounded by twinkle lights while squirrels and birds cavort in the pecan tree nearby. Or relax with a book while you grill steaks or burgers on the charcoal grill in the furnished Courtyard below. And afterwards....sleep like a dream on our COMFORTABLE mattresses! (I've had guests several times call to ask me who the manufacturer was!).

Don't like the heat? The Manor has Central AC/Heat plus Ceiling Fans in every room.

Free WiFi access, board games, Nintendo Game Cube/games, & three TVs plus DVD-VCR players, a book library and a Stackable W/D laundry closet with a second dryer downstairs makes your stay cozy and enjoyable for every member of your group and whatever weather conditions prevail.

While pictures tell a thousand words (and I've provided plenty)...a quick review shows that there are four (decorative) fireplaces in the Manor. Wide archway entrances separate the living areas providing easy access. The front foyer with its marbled floor & high ceiling'd chandelier has a charming halfbath at it's opposite end. The huge kitchen is fully stocked w/all the dishes/cook and bakeware you need to make meals. Three faux french doors lead from the Kitchen to the Bilevel Deck where twinkle lights surround the Hot Tub and built in bench seating. Below the Deck, foliage surrounds the patio furnished with chairs and umbrella table. The rose-arbored gate leads from the Courtyard to the rear driveway which fits 2 cars parked front to back. Additional parking is available free on Taylor Street which fronts the Manor entrance. But you really don't need a car! Because location is everything! The Manor is located right in the heart of the Landmark Downtown Historic District. Trolley and Carriage Tours will pick you up/drop you off at the doorstep! Walking Tours are only steps away. The (only) full-sized grocery store (Kroeger) is on the south end (6 blocks away), Forsyth Park is also south of the Estate (4 blocks), River Street is on the north end (7/10s of a mile from the Estate), the local winery is 3 blks away and all the Squares, shops, cafes, restaurants, antique stores (and, of course, everything SCAD for those loving the college life) is all around you!

Come experience true southern comfort. Bring a smile and a suitcase...that's all you need when you stay in the Taylor Manor. We are also non-smoking (we do allow it ONLY in the courtyards, not the deck... and we're quite strict!!). And you can bring fido. However, dog breed requires pre-approval...non-shedding preferred...must be crated when unattended and housebroken). A fenced dog park is in the rear northend of Beasely Park across the street. And...though it seems to be an oxymoron.... The Manor is hypoallergenic! (Due to the decor of wood, stone, tile, marble, and leather without the heavy rugs/upholstery/curtains of other homes and all mattresses are encased.)

Lastly..for groups desiring additional bedrooms or that have more than 11 occupants...consider renting (from this same owner)...the two-storied 2 BR/2 BA Cottage located behind and just adjacent to the Manor. It sleeps up to six. Taylor Cottage was the Manor's Carriage House originally. It is a detached, complete home in itself. (We know. Our parents used to live in it, we rented it long-term for years...someday I may retire there! It's the apple of this owner's eye). The decor is a bit of italian rennaissance. The entire second floor is a Bedroom Suite. It features a Queen-sized bed and, has a Daybed/Trundle (eg: equivalent to two twin beds) as well. The bedroom has a roomy walk in closet and an attached full bath with jetted tub/ shower. Downstairs is the cozy living room with soft leather furnishings along with its charmingly quaint kitchen. Handhewn, craftsman-style cabinets surround the antique table seating six. All cook/bakeware and dishes as well as all linens supplied just as they are in the Manor. The remaining first floor houses a full-sized W/D laundry closet. And...Queen-sized Bedroom and full bathroom complete with a handsome, stone-tiled, walk-in shower, discrete grab bars, and handheld shower-head. The stairwell to the second floor has wide, shallow steps and a discrete ramp off the gated courtyard allows easy access to the Cottage for Seniors, wheelchairs, and the handicapped.

Groups desiring more than the Manor alone will find the Cottage is perfect for grandparents, the older guests in your group..or just those wishing to have their own bedrooms. Because of the way the two separately gated and enclosed courtyards are angled....both Taylor Manor and its Cottage enjoy shady privacy.

Book the Manor directly with the owner or online on this website now and start the vacation of your dreams!

To rent the Cottage as well as the Manor, contact the owner for rates. It will be handled as a separate rental and is subject to availability.

About Suzanne

My husband, myself & our two kids (along with two cats, two ferrets & a dog :) purchased, lived in & lovingly restored the Manor back in 2001. As a licensed, general contractor, Mike made restoring the home a family project that he headed up. Memories & a sentimental love for the Manor (along with its original Carriage House and our own homes next door- also part of the restoration) remain strong. Mikes folks joined in on the restoration. The original intent was never for the Manor to be a rental. Hence, floorplans, choice of appliances, placing outlets everywhere, & putting in roomy closets were the 'convenient touches' which made our historic 1870 home meet the needs of our 21st century family. For years, Mike & I laughed, worked and homeschooled our girls while living in the Manor. Mom & Pop initially lived in the Cottage (which is what we renamed the Carriage House after its restoration). Years later, Mike and I made the decision to turn our lovely historic home... into a vacation home rental. So in 2007, we again moved our little family of four, (different) cat, (same) dog but sans ferrets... next door to the Manor. Fast forward to present day... Our girls are college graduates! One from SCAD. One from AASU. I now share the inside information on the best to do and see in Savannah (gleaned from actually living myself downtown for the past 14 years) with my guests. Because, no matter what the ages in your's been an age of one of my family members either now or in the past! I know what and where we go...have gone....and/or wish to go!

Living in the South has been great. Mike grew up Yankee. I was a California girl. Our girls were initially Carolina Cuties. But since 2000 they have proudly worn the title of georgia peaches! We love the South, the Lord, and Savannah. No other city is as beautiful. Our wish is to welcome you as we were welcomed....with warmth and hospitality

Suzanne purchased this townhome in 2001

Why Suzanne chose Savannah

We moved to Savannah from North Carolina when my husbands' job had him travel there. The landmark historic district is breathtaking and so walk-able! Everything I could want is walking distance. And when you walk, it's through beautiful, shady squares with outdoor cafes, moss-draped spanish oaks, carriages going by, cobblestone streets, & all these gorgeous historic houses. I loved it. Initially, when we first arrived in Savannah, we had moved to a 'cookie-cutter' subdivision within the city. While nice...that was not where I wanted to live. I had fallen in love with the 'real' Savannah...the original Savannah. That... is the 'landmark' historic district. (Note to the wise...the original GA colony borders constitutes the Landmark Historic District' . It stretches 1 mile x 1 mile from the River to Gwinett St (which marks the halfway point of Forsyth Park) & from MLK to Broad Street. Pass those street borders and you'll find things are not as easliy walkable as they should be. It's going to be a bit more like a hike. And some areas close to you are.... hmmm...sketchy. So be aware and be careful where you book). So...being in love with the Landmark historic district mean't buying a home there. Which is what we did and why we continue to live next door to the Manor.'s so convenient because when the Manor and/or its Cottage (which we also rent out separately) isn't rented by others, we can enjoy the outdoor Hot Tub or use the homes for our own out-of-state family/friends coming to town.

What makes this townhome unique

Walking to everything! Antique Stores, Boutiques, funky shops and clothing stores will beat the malls everytime:). Plus, major chains and high end retailers are throughout the historic district as well. I love the quaint, outdoor cafes and the stylish restaurants- and strolling home under moss-draped oaks through the famous Savannah Squares. It's great taking the dog with us when we go for coffee in the morning. The friendliness of the people. The cathedral which is breathtaking. In fact, all the churches are historic and beautifully built. The trees....I can just go and drive, bike, or walk, and stare at all the moss laden trees and the flowers in bloom and just feel the relaxation start seeping into my bones. The Savannah Theatre has a live variety show that is equal or excells those you'll find in Vegas, Branson, or even New York. You simply can't ask for a better place to live..festivals, street fairs, fireworks all summer long. Love it. Plus...the cuisine alone takes months to try to actually taste and try it all!

Guestbook comments from the owner

(taken from Guest Commnet book)...."Awesome - Spent time at Manor House. What can we say other than Awesome. We enjoyed this first trip to Savannah and would enjoy coming back to the Manor in 3 years for our 65th wedding anniversary!"

Beautiful home, Beautiful Savannah

  • 5 of 5

We have an annual girls trip and always try to find somewhere fun so we picked out Savannah this year. And we have learned, the best way to go for these weekends is to stay in a house - it just makes the whole weekend so much more fun. And the Taylor Manor was PERFECT in every way. There is a lovely modern and well equipped kitchen - so we could have coffee together in the morning (we usually fix a dinner one evening, but we had such great food options in Savannah, we used the kitchen to finish our take home desserts). The Hot tub on the back porch was divine! From a long and arduous day of shopping, we could hop in relax with a glass of wine before heading out to one of the many many great restaurants (make reservations weeks in advance for the Old Pink House!). The beds were heavenly - no matter what your preference you will find a bed that fits your needs in this lovely home. And the water pressure in the showers was excellent - that can always be dicey in historic homes. And the best, is Suzanne the owner - she just could not have been sweeter. So kind, so helpful, and she is focused on ensuring that you truly enjoy your stay. I just can't say enough wonderful things about our weekend. Thank you Suzanne, and thank you Savannah!

Highly Recommended Home!

This home is great! We rented the estate and the cottage to attend a family wedding. There were 11 of us, ages 18-78, and the space was perfect. Everything we needed was provided and the beds were so comfortable. We were able to walk everywhere. The owners were so helpful and provided us with lots of information. I would definitely come back here!

Owner's Response: The # 1 question I get asked by potential guests is..."how far away are you to everything downtown?". Your review answers it perfectly! We are in the midst of the Landmark (downtown) Historic District. So it never will take more than 20 - 30 minutes to walk anywhere and usually within 5 - 10 minutes you're you're entrenched in an antique store, cafe, market, festival, park or shop! This has been the absolute best part of living in the Landmark Historic District for me and my family! We live right next door to the Manor. A helpful FYI for Guests......"Landmark" is the description of the historic district that encompasses the ORIGINAL 13TH COLONY borders which were set up when Georgia was first established in 1793 as a debtors colony. And it's famous for its design that involves a myriad of "squares" that you walk through as you go through the downtown. This distinction is important. Because most guests coming to Savannah do not know that.. there are SEVEN "historic districts" in Savannah! So renter beware :). Being told you are renting in the victorian or other "historic district" ...means you better have a car and lots of quarters for parking meters. As it is ONLY the "Landmark Historic District" that is the one the tourists want...the one with everything to see and do that has it all within "walking distance". Outside of the Landmark District...either drive or be prepared to walk much further to get to and from your accommodations...bring tennis shoes :). the Taylor Manor!

What a lovely home!

There were 10 of us who rented this estate and cottage, for an all-girls getaway. This home is beautiful and very nicely preserved, with modern amenities to make the perfect place to come home to after a long day of touring and shopping in beautiful Savannah. Along with the perfect location for walking and only a few block from the trolly tour route, I highly recommend this home if you are planning a trip to Savannah in the future. The owners are very nice and did a fabulous job of preparing us for our visit. There were big fluffy towels, complementary soaps, toilet paper, a nice kitchen to cook in, and comfortable beds awaiting us. I would definitely stay again and would I recommend this home to my friends and family members!

Owner's Response: Such a sweet review that leaves me with nothing to add other than thank you and that I love getting feedback such as this! It makes me realize the handwork I put into making my home comfortable and to have everything a Guest should need at their fingertips...really does make coming to Savannah and staying in the Taylor Manor the perfect place for my Guests! I love that!

Graduation December 2014

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic! We rented the Estate and Cottage for my daughter's graduation in December 2014. The house was exactly as pictured and advertised with great character yet very comfortable. The original plans called for 11 however in the end only 9 attended however their was plenty of room for at least 11. The location was fantastic with off street parking as well as the ability to easily walk for groceries. The downtown location was fantastic with a variety of inexpensive options to easily get around the city. The owners are extremely organized, friendly and accomodating. They did an exceptional job in preparing us for the visit by answering questions, through their pre visit e-mails as well their book upon arrival, which we would have never thought of. Thank you very much for all of your help and hospitality in making the event very special! With any luck we will be back in the future!

Owner's Response: I hope luck is on your side as I adore having repeat guests. I enjoyed that "Santa said...Fantastic stay!". Decorating the home for Christmas is so rewarding because it adds so much to my guests stay during the holidays! Delighted too that you enjoyed my book and the personal recommendations to help my guests thoroughly enjoy all of Savannah! It helps when I get to greet guests at the start because I can immediately "fine tune" my recommendations to that particular groups dynamic and ages :)

Just what we hoped for!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the cottage for a few days in October. There were four in our party, two couples. There was plenty of room for our stay. Before renting I was concerned that the master bed room appeared to be a loft, and even though it is in fact a loft, there was plenty of privacy. The entire upstairs of the cottage is the master suite, the stairs are in the front of the house off of the living room. The cottage was beautifully decorated, with lots of personal touches. The kitchen was fully stocked for all of our cooking needs. The cottage is in a perfect location in the historic district. The cottage was all that we hoped it would be for our first stay in Savannah. We hope to be be able to visit again. Thank you Suzanne for being so welcoming and sharing your cottage with us.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the kind words and that I met my goal for your stay to be terrific! Though I don't often "split" the Cottage and Manor up as I did for your group, it is sometimes done. Usually only during the low season months though....although I actually did it already for St Pats week 2015!! Which means I am still offering just the Cottage which sleeps 6 and is perfect for smaller groups such as yours. Delighted to have had you show this to others interested in booking the Cottage for "just" St Pats 2015...or in combination with the Manor as the Taylor Estate absolutely anytime!

A place my Girl Scout Troop will remember for life

  • 5 of 5

Our group of 15 girls and 4 adults stayed at the Taylor estate for 4 days. Renting this home made it possible for our group to completely enjoy our visit to Savannah. There was ample space for the girls to relax after a long day of seeing the sites. We were able to eat our meals at home (so to speak) which is more economical and convenient with a large group. We were able to walk to all areas of the historic district, saving time and expense for parking.

The home itself could not be more beautiful. It is full of antiques and the decor makes one feel like they are stepping into your grandmother’s home with wall hangings, pictures and figurines everywhere. Each room has its own special characteristics. Our girls will remember this place and the trip for life.

Suzanne is a wonderful lady and the homes provide for your smallest need. No need to search any further than this property for a place to stay during your visit to Savannah!
