Savannah Estate Rental Photos and Description

6BR/4.5BA Estate includes 2kitchens/2LvgRms/2Crtyds!Sleep 17 -all in comfy beds

Stylish luxury & antique ambience blend w/21st century convenience in the Taylor Estate. This 1870 historic home is the perfect 'home away from home'. You'll LIVE in Savannah's coveted downtown! The handsome Manor & its former Carriage House (renamed Taylor Cottage) were lovingly restored in 2001 by the current owners who now live next door. (But we, the owners, used to live in the Estate which is why you'll find everything you need...has been thought of... and provided! Enjoy all sights/sounds & activities of Savannah's historic district from your doorstep! The Estate is decorated with a stylish ambience. Yet you'll find homey, thoughtful touches throughout as well. Everything you need to make your stay complete is provided...all you bring is your suitcase. Having raised our own children while living ourselves for years in the Estate, we know the needs of guests. And proximity means 'well-maintained'. High cleanliness standards are enforced. Your stay in the Taylor Estate is never to feel like a vacation rental 'house', but always as a 'home'. Easy really...because the Estate was never mean't to be a 'rental'! And you'll not find a sofa-sleeper anywhere! Instead, ten comfy beds await you within their own uniquely themed bedroom! Framed pictures of my actual ancestors can be found throughout the home. Family heirlooms & antiques & even the over 400 year-old pine countertops of the Manor kitchen ...have stories attached. We believe in serious comfort as well as . So expect to find everything you need at your fingertips. Beds & soft leather furnishings are comfy, comfy, comfy! Groups large or small will enjoy the flowing traffic pattern /floorplan of the Estate. With ease you can meander betwixt both Manor & Cottage. High ceilings, tall windows, & the roomy floor plan bequeaths a spacious airyness throughout the Taylor Estate. Closets are large! (and closets, period, are rarities!) Pet friendly yet...hypoallergenic! No heavy, musty carpets and drapes. Instead, sunshine spills past light/sheer curtains and plantation blinds. Polished wood floors/stone/tile/leather keep dustmites away. While the historic decor, comfortable beds and amenities (in a home that's 144 years old) provides our Guests with the honest 'living life in Savannah' feel...which is missed w/hotel stays... 'true comfort' mandates modern 21st century amenities! So enjoy our two jetted whirlpool tub & showers, a 6' claw tub/shower (stretch out!), and handicap, walk-in shower. The outdoor HotTub soothes after days exploring. Got laundry? No problem. Two Washers, Two Dryers, Two Microwaves and Two Dishwashers come w/the Estate. Ceiling Fans are in every room plus Central AC/Heat. Grill away.. charcoal grills are in both shady & furnished courtyards. 4 car private driveway. Free WiFi access, board games, Nintendo Game Cube/games, & FIVE TVs (along w/several DVD-VCR players & a book library)

The Manor Bedrooms are themed: Renaissance, Civil War, Rosebud, & Louisa May Alcott Attic. There are four (decorative) fireplaces in the Manor. Wide archway entrances separate living areas providing easy access for scooters/wheelchairs. The front foyer with its marbled floor & high ceiling'd chandelier has a charming halfbath at it's opposite end. Both kitchens are fully stocked w/everything you need to cook/bake and eat. The coveted 'Cooks' Kitchen of the Manor has three faux french doors which lead you onto the Bilevel Deck where twinkle lights surround the Hot Tub & foliage surrounds the patio below. Relax in comfortable chairs around the umbrella table during summer nights. The Cottage Courtyard is also furnished. Both are gated w/entrances off the private driveway only steps apart.

The Cottage quite simply charms. The exterior's centuries-old stone & flowerboxes give off a fairytale feel. Kitchen cabinetry was hand-hewn using craftsman-style technique. Self-standing (eg: no shared walls/ceilings) allows guests full privacy. A private entrance is off E. Jones Lane as well as the rear courtyard entrance. You can be as close..or as far...from those in the Manor as you want. The quaint kitchen, wood floors, quality bedding, spacious pseudo-loft designed master bedroom, modern bathrooms, charming first-floor bedroom ( a big hit w/Seniors), and luxurious soft leather furnishings along with a decor evoking nights spent in an italian villa....will make you reluctant to leave. Due to the angled location of the two courtyards & that each is fenced, gated and surrounded in foliage & flowers...you will enjoy shady privacy. The Cottage is also HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE with a discrete access ramp. The first floor bath has a walk-in shower /handheld showerhead & grab bars.

Possibilities abound for our lovely Estate. Normally the full Estate is rented out but occassionally we rent the Cottage and Manor

separately...The Cottage sleeps up to 6. The Manor sleeps up to 11. Combined...the Estate sleeps up to 17- with everyone in a bed, no sofa-sleepers to be found!

It's perfect for family reunions, girl / guy /couple/or friend 'getaways', girl scout troops, church or corporate retreats, destination wedding attendees & bridal parties. Wifi access is throughout the Estate. Use of owner's Fax may be requested. Ask the owner to borrow a racquet or two :) and play some tennis at Forsyth Park. Afterwards, have a massage at the numerous nearby spas. Or just relax in the Outdoor Hot Tub. Never feel smunched together in the Estate. 3200 square feet goes a long way ...plenty of room for even more than 17! I limit capacity to 17 due to #beds and.. to avoid damages. But GS Troops or families w/young children may, for extra fees & ONLY with owner pre-approval, request to have as many as 20 - 22 persons. The Estate is located in the landmark historic district which is made up of the original borders of the Georgia Colony established in 1763. The size of the Landmark district is 1 mile X 1 mile. So you can walk to it all. But outside of these boundarys (Gwinett St to the South/River St to the North; MLK to the West/Broad St to the East)...your stroll can turn into a hike. There's actually seven 'historic' districts in Savannah and many a hotel may try to fool you. Make sure you stay in the Landmark District (the original and the only walkable one!) Surprisingly, the southern half of Forsyth Park (used to be for military drill practice) is actually outside the Landmark district so you add another 1/2 mile when you choose to stay anywhere south of Gwinett St. (So...Fair warning has been given (lol) :)...because I've heard plenty from disgruntled guests of 'other' homes and hotels that had been taken by surprise).

But in the Estate, you're in the heart of the Landmark Downtown Historic District. The (only) full-sized grocery store (Kroeger) is on the south end (6 blocks away), Forsyth Park is also south of the Estate (4 blocks), River Street is on the north end (7/10s of a mile from the Estate), the local winery is 3 blks away and, as said, everything else is all around you!

Come and experience true southern comfort. Bring a smile and a suitcase...that's all you need when you stay in the Taylor Estate. 96 reviews can't be wrong! ;). Once more...the

About Suzanne

My husband, myself & our two kids (along with two cats, two ferrets & a dog :) purchased, lived in & lovingly restored the Estate back in 2001. As a licensed, general contractor, Mike made restoring the home a family project that he headed up. Memories & a sentimental love for the Estate (along with our homes 'next door' which were also part of the restoration) remain strong. Mikes folks joined in on the restoration. The original intent was never for the Manor to be a rental. And the Cottage was restored keeping our retirement years in mind! Hence, floorplans, choice of appliances, placing outlets everywhere, & putting in roomy closets were the 'convenient touches' which made our historic 1870 home meet the needs of our 21st century family. For years, Mike & I laughed, worked and homeschooled our girls while living in the Manor. Mom & Pop initially lived in the Cottage but later had already moved next door to the Manor. Yet it was several more years before Mike and I made the decision to turn our lovely historic home... into a vacation home rental. So in 2007, we again moved our little family of four, (different) cat, (same) dog but sans ferrets... next door to the Estate. Fast forward to present day... Our girls are college graduates! One from SCAD. One from AASU. I now share the inside information on the best to do and see in Savannah (gleaned from actually living myself downtown for the past 13 years) with my guests. Because, no matter what the ages in your group...it's been an age of one of my family members either now or in the past! And I know what and where we go...have gone....and/or wish to go!

Living in the South has been great. Mike grew up Yankee. I was a California girl. Our girls were initially Carolina Cuties. But since 2000 they have proudly worn the title of georgia peaches! We love the South. We love the Lord. We love Savannah. No other city is as beautiful. Our wish is to welcome you as we were welcomed....with warmth and hospitality.

Suzanne purchased this estate in 2001

Why Suzanne chose Savannah

We moved to Savannah from North Carolina when my husbands' job had him travel there. The landmark historic district is breathtaking and so walk-able! Everything I could want is walking distance. And when you walk, it's through beautiful, shady squares with outdoor cafes, moss-draped spanish oaks, carriages going by, cobblestone streets, & all these gorgeous historic houses. I loved it. Initially, when we first arrived in Savannah, we had moved to a 'cookie-cutter' subdivision within the city. While nice...that was not where I wanted to live. I had fallen in love with the 'real' Savannah...the original Savannah. That... is the 'landmark' historic district. (Note to the wise...the original GA colony borders constitutes the Landmark Historic District' . It stretches 1 mile x 1 mile from the River to Gwinett St (which marks the halfway point of Forsyth Park) & from MLK to Broad Street. Pass those street borders and you'll find things are not as easliy walkable as they should be. It's going to be a bit more like a hike. And some areas close to you are.... hmmm...sketchy. So be aware and be careful where you book). So...being in love with the Landmark historic district mean't buying a home there. Which is what we did and why we continue to live next door to the Estate. Plus...it's so convenient because when the Estate isn't rented out, we can enjoy the outdoor Hot Tub or use the homes for our own out-of-state family/friends coming to town.

What makes this estate unique

Walking to everything! Antique Stores, Boutiques, funky shops and clothing stores will beat the malls everytime:). Plus, major chains and high end retailers are throughout the historic district as well. I love the quaint, outdoor cafes and the stylish restaurants- and strolling home under moss-draped oaks through the famous Savannah Squares. It's great taking the dog with us when we go for coffee in the morning. The friendliness of the people. The cathedral which is breathtaking. In fact, all the churches are incredible...so historic and beautifully built. The trees....I can just go and drive, bike, or walk, and stare at all the moss laden trees and the flowers in bloom and just feel the relaxation start seeping into my bones. The Savannah Theatre has a live variety show that is equal or excells those you'll find in Vegas, Branson, or even New York. You simply can't ask for a better place to live..festivals, street fairs, fireworks all summer long. Love it. Plus...the cuisine alone takes months to try to actually taste and try it all!

Guestbook comments from the owner

(taken from Guest Commnet book)...."Awesome - Spent time at Manor House. What can we say other than Awesome. We enjoyed this first trip to Savannah and would enjoy coming back to the Manor in 3 years for our 65th wedding anniversary!"

A place my Girl Scout Troop will remember for life

  • 5 of 5
Our group of 15 girls and 4 adults stayed at the Taylor estate for 4 days. Renting this home made it possible for our group to completely enjoy our visit to Savannah. There was ample space for the girls to relax after a long day of seeing the sites. We were able to eat our meals at home (so to speak) which is more economical and convenient with a large group. We were able to walk to all areas of the historic district, saving time and expense for parking.
The home itself could not be more beautiful. It is full of antiques and the decor makes one feel like they are stepping into your grandmother’s home with wall hangings, pictures and figurines everywhere. Each room has its own special characteristics. Our girls will remember this place and the trip for life.
Suzanne is a wonderful lady and the homes provide for your smallest need. No need to search any further than this property for a place to stay during your visit to Savannah!

Family Reunion

  • 5 of 5
We traveled from 6 different states for a week long family reunion in Savannah. It could not have been more perfect. The manor and carriage house were absolutely beautiful and spotless. We parked our vehicles upon our arrival and did not use them until packing to leave a week later. The historic district was right outside our door and we delighted in being able to explore it on foot. It truly was a home away from home and would love to return in the future.

Owner's Response: Yay!!! I get so many callers inquiring about the location of the Estate. They ask "How close is the home to the river?", "Can I walk to the stores and museums and shops?, "Do I need my car and do you have parking?", "How far to ....?" Etcetera :). So I tell them...the Estate is perfectly located on a quiet street where birds chirp, squirrels run in the branches above the courtyards and the sound of children playing might drift over faintly from the elementary school a few blocks away. But it is smack dab in the sought-after "Landmark historic district". So walk away. Despite the landmark historic district being the largest in the national record books (1 mile north/south by 1 mile east/west) it is easy to walk since you walk among the famous 'Savannah Squares' along brick or cobblestoned streets and sidewalks. The streets are rimmed with live oaks draped in spanish moss. Trolleys and Carriages roll by the front door of Taylor Manor/Estate. This review ...gives reassurance to all! Here's an important FYI for the uninformed about Savannah...truly important when looking at where to stay....there's seven (yep...Seven!) "historic districts" in Savannah! Many vacation homes and hotels advertise themselves as being in the "historic district". Make sure you stay in the "Landmark" Historic District...eg: the original Georgia colony borders established by England in 1733 make up the "Landmark" Historic District which are from Gwinett St (south end) to the River (north end) and from (East) Broad St to (west) MLK Blvd. So check your maps online before you book! Or book the Estate to be sure you're where you want to be! For as this guest notes....nothing beats the luxurious and spacious Taylor Estate for comfort, cleanliness, convenience or location!

True Southern Comfort

  • 5 of 5
The Taylor Estate proved perfect in every way for our family gathering! A total of 17 of us enjoyed the manor and carriage house, including 12 adults and 5 children, ages 4 months to 9 years. The description of the house and cottage are very accurate but it is all much more charming than the photos. Suzanne has somehow managed to combine the ambience of an historic property with the most modern of comforts. The kitchens had all the utensils we would ever need and the courtyards with hottub, twinkle lights and grills were relished by all. The location is perfect – parks and playgrounds across the street one way and all of historic Savannah the other. We highly recommend the Taylor Estate to anyone with a trip to Savannah in their future!

A Perfect Wedding Weekend

  • 5 of 5
We chose the Taylor Estate as our home away from home for our daughter's Savannah wedding. It is large enough to accommodate our family and the bridal party. We had ages ranging from 2 to 90 and were all very comfortable with the arrangements. Everything that we needed was provided in the house. Suzanne was helpful in recommending a local nail salon. The off street parking as well as extra parking on the street was wonderful. The estate is so convenient to everything in the historic area. The furnishings are so lovely that we decided to take pre-wedding photos in the manor.
I would recommend the estate to anyone traveling to Savannah.

Owner's Response: I enjoy my bridal parties...the Estate works so well for that group dynamic. Often the grooms family stay in the Cottage and the Brides family and Bridesmaids in the Manor. Others have the grandparents in the Cottage (very Senior Friendly) and the Bridal Party stay in the Manor, or all the guys in the one and the girls in the other... etcetera. The possibilities and flexibility are one of the things that make the Taylor Estate unique from other rentals. That and the fact it was built in 1870 and the decor helps reflect the ambience of that time. Yet, as you mentioned, everything you need for modern day comfort and to make your stay easy and memorable are at your fingertips. Even the local nail salon!

6 couples/Perfect fit

  • 5 of 5
We spent a wonderful weekend in Savannah with 6 couples. This was the perfect set-up for our needs. The Estate included use of the house and cottage. There was more than enough room and the estate was beautiful. Everything was very clean and had the classic Savannah charm. I would highly recommend staying here both for a big group getaway or for a weekend away for two. The owner is easy to work with, quick to respond and very accommodating. I have no hesitation is highly recommending this lodging.

Spacious retreat

  • 5 of 5
Our stay at the Taylor Estate was quite comfortable and there was plenty of room for the whole family. The property as a whole "felt like home" and the kitchens had all the essentials to prepare meals for a big group. Groceries are a short walk away and the historical sights of Savannah are a short drive away. Highly recommend the Estate for families!

Owner's Response: We acheive our goal when a Guest comments that, "it felt like home!". The decor imbues an ambience of the 1800's... which we felt was appropriate given that the Estate was built in the year 1870. That was only five years after the "War Between the States" (Civil War) ended and is a feature of the Estate which adds "layers" to the memories our Guests take away of their stay in our 133 year-old Historic Home. I'm sure the Estate could share some stories "if walls could talk". While my Guest did not mention the Christmas decor put up for their stay, adding that holiday flair gives me such delight. I think it probably added to the "home-like" feel you enjoyed. That your group chose sometimes to drive, rather than walk, to some of the nearby historic sites, located on all sides of the Estate yet still within the large stretch of land occupied by the Landmark Historic District (which measures one mile by one mile) is understandable. Because you were here Christmas week. December weather can be cold & /or rainy. But the sites within the downtown historic district are ALL walking distance from the front steps of the home for when you step outside...you are IN the historic downtown. You walk through the (famous) Savannah Squares amid live oaks draped with spanish moss while tour buses and pedicabs bowl along in front of the Estate on a daily basis. But I don't want Guests to not recognize also that...while most everything to shop/eat/peek or pay for is only a 5 - 15 minute walk. One might, on cold & /or rainy December days, opt to hop in a car rather than walk.:). We do sometimes too...and we live right next door to the Estate. But the truth is that the grocery store is a farther walk than many of the historic sites. It's 6 blocks away. Also, to be honest, Guests wishing to see sites outside of the original (13th colony) Savannah borders will require a car or a cab to get to them. Sites such as Tybee Beach, Fort Pulaski & Bonneventure Cemetary. Otherwise though, pack a suitcase & know that you can "throw your keys away". Because while a car is "nice", it is never "essential" :).

Grab morning Coffee at Clarys down the street, tour Massie School Museum or another local museum, shop till you drop, grab lunch at Firefly, Gryphon or any one of the numerous cafes abounding nearby! Check out City Market, Broughton Street Shops and the Design District Boutiques on East Taylor. Enjoy Southern Cuisine at its finest at Mrs Wilkes, The Ol Pink House or try the edgy sophistication at Jazz'd for tapas. Hop on/off the local trolley tours as you enjoy an afternoon on River Street. Then stroll back 'home' or have a bicycle cab (eg: pedicab) drive and relax in the shady courtyards of the Estate or take a dip in the Hot tub. Then...off to the nightlife at the Distillery on W. Liberty, take in a live show at Savannah Theater, tour the bars and nightlife throughout downtown, take a Riverboat Dinner Cruise....or, have a quieter and less crazy night and enjoy fine dining and grab an ice cream at Leopolds. You'll love the stroll back to the quiet friendliness of the Estate's neighborhood where you'll enjoy sweet slumber on wonderfully comfy beds amid an ambience of luxury!
