Stylish luxury & antique ambience blend w/21st century convenience in the Taylor Estate. This 1870 historic home is the perfect 'home away from home'. You'll LIVE in Savannah's coveted downtown! The handsome Manor & its former Carriage House (renamed Taylor Cottage) were lovingly restored in 2001 by the current owners who now live next door. (But we, the owners, used to live in the Estate which is why you'll find everything you need...has been thought of... and provided! Enjoy all sights/sounds & activities of Savannah's historic district from your doorstep! The Estate is decorated with a stylish ambience. Yet you'll find homey, thoughtful touches throughout as well. Everything you need to make your stay complete is provided...all you bring is your suitcase. Having raised our own children while living ourselves for years in the Estate, we know the needs of guests. And proximity means 'well-maintained'. High cleanliness standards are enforced. Your stay in the Taylor Estate is never to feel like a vacation rental 'house', but always as a 'home'. Easy really...because the Estate was never mean't to be a 'rental'! And you'll not find a sofa-sleeper anywhere! Instead, ten comfy beds await you within their own uniquely themed bedroom! Framed pictures of my actual ancestors can be found throughout the home. Family heirlooms & antiques & even the over 400 year-old pine countertops of the Manor kitchen ...have stories attached. We believe in serious comfort as well as . So expect to find everything you need at your fingertips. Beds & soft leather furnishings are comfy, comfy, comfy! Groups large or small will enjoy the flowing traffic pattern /floorplan of the Estate. With ease you can meander betwixt both Manor & Cottage. High ceilings, tall windows, & the roomy floor plan bequeaths a spacious airyness throughout the Taylor Estate. Closets are large! (and closets, period, are rarities!) Pet friendly yet...hypoallergenic! No heavy, musty carpets and drapes. Instead, sunshine spills past light/sheer curtains and plantation blinds. Polished wood floors/stone/tile/leather keep dustmites away. While the historic decor, comfortable beds and amenities (in a home that's 144 years old) provides our Guests with the honest 'living life in Savannah' feel...which is missed w/hotel stays... 'true comfort' mandates modern 21st century amenities! So enjoy our two jetted whirlpool tub & showers, a 6' claw tub/shower (stretch out!), and handicap, walk-in shower. The outdoor HotTub soothes after days exploring. Got laundry? No problem. Two Washers, Two Dryers, Two Microwaves and Two Dishwashers come w/the Estate. Ceiling Fans are in every room plus Central AC/Heat. Grill away.. charcoal grills are in both shady & furnished courtyards. 4 car private driveway. Free WiFi access, board games, Nintendo Game Cube/games, & FIVE TVs (along w/several DVD-VCR players & a book library)
The Manor Bedrooms are themed: Renaissance, Civil War, Rosebud, & Louisa May Alcott Attic. There are four (decorative) fireplaces in the Manor. Wide archway entrances separate living areas providing easy access for scooters/wheelchairs. The front foyer with its marbled floor & high ceiling'd chandelier has a charming halfbath at it's opposite end. Both kitchens are fully stocked w/everything you need to cook/bake and eat. The coveted 'Cooks' Kitchen of the Manor has three faux french doors which lead you onto the Bilevel Deck where twinkle lights surround the Hot Tub & foliage surrounds the patio below. Relax in comfortable chairs around the umbrella table during summer nights. The Cottage Courtyard is also furnished. Both are gated w/entrances off the private driveway only steps apart.
The Cottage quite simply charms. The exterior's centuries-old stone & flowerboxes give off a fairytale feel. Kitchen cabinetry was hand-hewn using craftsman-style technique. Self-standing (eg: no shared walls/ceilings) allows guests full privacy. A private entrance is off E. Jones Lane as well as the rear courtyard entrance. You can be as close..or as far...from those in the Manor as you want. The quaint kitchen, wood floors, quality bedding, spacious pseudo-loft designed master bedroom, modern bathrooms, charming first-floor bedroom ( a big hit w/Seniors), and luxurious soft leather furnishings along with a decor evoking nights spent in an italian villa....will make you reluctant to leave. Due to the angled location of the two courtyards & that each is fenced, gated and surrounded in foliage & flowers...you will enjoy shady privacy. The Cottage is also HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE with a discrete access ramp. The first floor bath has a walk-in shower /handheld showerhead & grab bars.
Possibilities abound for our lovely Estate. Normally the full Estate is rented out but occassionally we rent the Cottage and Manor
separately...The Cottage sleeps up to 6. The Manor sleeps up to 11. Combined...the Estate sleeps up to 17- with everyone in a bed, no sofa-sleepers to be found!
It's perfect for family reunions, girl / guy /couple/or friend 'getaways', girl scout troops, church or corporate retreats, destination wedding attendees & bridal parties. Wifi access is throughout the Estate. Use of owner's Fax may be requested. Ask the owner to borrow a racquet or two :) and play some tennis at Forsyth Park. Afterwards, have a massage at the numerous nearby spas. Or just relax in the Outdoor Hot Tub. Never feel smunched together in the Estate. 3200 square feet goes a long way ...plenty of room for even more than 17! I limit capacity to 17 due to #beds and.. to avoid damages. But GS Troops or families w/young children may, for extra fees & ONLY with owner pre-approval, request to have as many as 20 - 22 persons. The Estate is located in the landmark historic district which is made up of the original borders of the Georgia Colony established in 1763. The size of the Landmark district is 1 mile X 1 mile. So you can walk to it all. But outside of these boundarys (Gwinett St to the South/River St to the North; MLK to the West/Broad St to the East)...your stroll can turn into a hike. There's actually seven 'historic' districts in Savannah and many a hotel may try to fool you. Make sure you stay in the Landmark District (the original and the only walkable one!) Surprisingly, the southern half of Forsyth Park (used to be for military drill practice) is actually outside the Landmark district so you add another 1/2 mile when you choose to stay anywhere south of Gwinett St. (So...Fair warning has been given (lol) :)...because I've heard plenty from disgruntled guests of 'other' homes and hotels that had been taken by surprise).
But in the Estate, you're in the heart of the Landmark Downtown Historic District. The (only) full-sized grocery store (Kroeger) is on the south end (6 blocks away), Forsyth Park is also south of the Estate (4 blocks), River Street is on the north end (7/10s of a mile from the Estate), the local winery is 3 blks away and, as said, everything else is all around you!
Come and experience true southern comfort. Bring a smile and a suitcase...that's all you need when you stay in the Taylor Estate. 96 reviews can't be wrong! ;). Once more...the

My husband, myself & our two kids (along with two cats, two ferrets & a dog :) purchased, lived in & lovingly restored the Estate back in 2001. As a licensed, general contractor, Mike made restoring the home a family project that he headed up. Memories & a sentimental love for the Estate (along with our homes 'next door' which were also part of the restoration) remain strong. Mikes folks joined in on the restoration. The original intent was never for the Manor to be a rental. And the Cottage was restored keeping our retirement years in mind! Hence, floorplans, choice of appliances, placing outlets everywhere, & putting in roomy closets were the 'convenient touches' which made our historic 1870 home meet the needs of our 21st century family. For years, Mike & I laughed, worked and homeschooled our girls while living in the Manor. Mom & Pop initially lived in the Cottage but later had already moved next door to the Manor. Yet it was several more years before Mike and I made the decision to turn our lovely historic home... into a vacation home rental. So in 2007, we again moved our little family of four, (different) cat, (same) dog but sans ferrets... next door to the Estate. Fast forward to present day... Our girls are college graduates! One from SCAD. One from AASU. I now share the inside information on the best to do and see in Savannah (gleaned from actually living myself downtown for the past 13 years) with my guests. Because, no matter what the ages in your group...it's been an age of one of my family members either now or in the past! And I know what and where we go...have gone....and/or wish to go!
Living in the South has been great. Mike grew up Yankee. I was a California girl. Our girls were initially Carolina Cuties. But since 2000 they have proudly worn the title of georgia peaches! We love the South. We love the Lord. We love Savannah. No other city is as beautiful. Our wish is to welcome you as we were welcomed....with warmth and hospitality.

Why Suzanne chose Savannah
We moved to Savannah from North Carolina when my husbands' job had him travel there. The landmark historic district is breathtaking and so walk-able! Everything I could want is walking distance. And when you walk, it's through beautiful, shady squares with outdoor cafes, moss-draped spanish oaks, carriages going by, cobblestone streets, & all these gorgeous historic houses. I loved it. Initially, when we first arrived in Savannah, we had moved to a 'cookie-cutter' subdivision within the city. While nice...that was not where I wanted to live. I had fallen in love with the 'real' Savannah...the original Savannah. That... is the 'landmark' historic district. (Note to the wise...the original GA colony borders constitutes the Landmark Historic District' . It stretches 1 mile x 1 mile from the River to Gwinett St (which marks the halfway point of Forsyth Park) & from MLK to Broad Street. Pass those street borders and you'll find things are not as easliy walkable as they should be. It's going to be a bit more like a hike. And some areas close to you are.... hmmm...sketchy. So be aware and be careful where you book). So...being in love with the Landmark historic district mean't buying a home there. Which is what we did and why we continue to live next door to the Estate. Plus...it's so convenient because when the Estate isn't rented out, we can enjoy the outdoor Hot Tub or use the homes for our own out-of-state family/friends coming to town.
What makes this estate unique
Walking to everything! Antique Stores, Boutiques, funky shops and clothing stores will beat the malls everytime:). Plus, major chains and high end retailers are throughout the historic district as well. I love the quaint, outdoor cafes and the stylish restaurants- and strolling home under moss-draped oaks through the famous Savannah Squares. It's great taking the dog with us when we go for coffee in the morning. The friendliness of the people. The cathedral which is breathtaking. In fact, all the churches are incredible...so historic and beautifully built. The trees....I can just go and drive, bike, or walk, and stare at all the moss laden trees and the flowers in bloom and just feel the relaxation start seeping into my bones. The Savannah Theatre has a live variety show that is equal or excells those you'll find in Vegas, Branson, or even New York. You simply can't ask for a better place to live..festivals, street fairs, fireworks all summer long. Love it. Plus...the cuisine alone takes months to try to actually taste and try it all!
Guestbook comments from the owner
(taken from Guest Commnet book)...."Awesome - Spent time at Manor House. What can we say other than Awesome. We enjoyed this first trip to Savannah and would enjoy coming back to the Manor in 3 years for our 65th wedding anniversary!"
