BELLE 19C MAISON -MAJESTIC VIEWS OVER HONFLEUR AND PONT DE NORMANDIE

Honfleur House Rental Photos and Description

4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, sleeps 8; front patio and large private rear garden

House in Normandy France: A beautiful, large house situated in the protected Côte de Grâce area of Honfleur, located on the path up to the magnificent Mont Joli and the historical 17th century Notre-Dame-de-Grâce chapel. Only a 5-minute walk down to the center of Honfleur, the Place Sainte Catherine, and the old harbour. Tastefully renovated, the house maintains its 19th century charm and architectural details. On the ground floor is a spacious living room with TV, English satellite, DVD/VCR player and portable stereo and the very large newly fitted, fully equipped kitchen. There is a lovely patio in front with barbeque and patio furniture supplied. The first floor comprises two large bedrooms, one double, one twin, and two bathrooms, both en-suite, one with shower and one with a luxurious deep bath. The second floor comprises another two large bedrooms, each with two single-size beds and two bathrooms, both ensuite, one with shower and the other with a luxurious deep bath.

A wealth of activities a short walk from the house: Beautiful and historically rich, Honfleur is ideally positioned between the Seine estuary and the sea. A traditional fishing village, Honfleur has been home to many well-known painters, writers and musicians such as Eugene Boudin, Erik Satie and Charles Baudelaire. Take in its rich maritime heritage and architectural and natural beauty. Honfleur is one of only 161 towns in all of France to be awarded 'four flowers'. Many leisure activities are within a short walking distance of the house: swimming pool, tennis courts, Naturospace, beach, large public garden, museums, a long, romantic promenade starting from the harbour all the way to the beach, shopping, antiques and many excellent restaurants. The weekly Saturday market and the Biomarche on Wednesday are superb for purchasing fresh produce, cheese and meats. An important pilgrimage, the Chapel Notre Dame de Grâce is an exhilarating 10-minute walk up Mt. Joli; the path starts in front of the house with breathtaking views all the way.

An ideal base from which to explore Normandy: We think you'll find our home to be the ideal base from which to explore Normandy. It's only a 15-minute drive to the fashionable coastal resorts of Deauville and Trouville. About an hour drive through magnificent lush, rolling countryside is Falaise, birthplace of William the Conqueror where you can visit his castle. Drive along the coast toward Cherbourg stopping along the way in the charming and picturesque seaside towns of St. Vasst-la-Hogue and Barfleur, only two of the dozens of delightful seaside villages within an hour drive. One of the finest and loveliest zoos can be found in Jurques near Caen, only about an hour drive. The abbeys that William the Conquerer and his queen, Matilda, had built are also in Caen as is his castle built in 1060. A day trip to the D-Day beaches, which start at only an hour's drive away, is an educational and moving experience and definitely worthwhile.

Relax at the house: Its setting in the beautiful Côte de Grâce affords the most splendid views and is quiet and peaceful yet only a 5-minute walk into town. Tastefully decorated and comfortably furnished, fully equipped with every convenience, our cherished home will make for you a perfect home away from home.

A Wonderful Home in Honfleur

  • 5 of 5
Our visit to Normandy was very enjoyable due to our base in the historic seaside town of Honfleur. The home was exactly as described and we found it spacious, comfortable and spotless. Josephine was helpful, prompt and pleasant in our correspondence as we planned our visit to her home. We toured the DDay beaches, the Caen museum, the Bayeux tapestry and Pegasus beach. The roads were easy to travel and very scenic. Each evening it was a pleasure to return to our house and we loved trying new restaurants and walking through Honfleur. I can highly recommend this property.

Commemoration of 70th anniversary of D Day

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I travelled to Normandy with two other couples to commemorate the 70th anniversary of D Day. All of us had fathers who had fought during the Second World War and who had been involved in the D Day experience. We corresponded with Josephine in early November 2013 and she was most pleasant to deal with. The house was wonderful. The location, about fine minutes outside of town, meant that it was quiet and peaceful. We thoroughly enjoyed the short walk to see the wonderful sites in Honfleur. Josephine recommended excellent sites and restaurants for our enjoyment. The home was clean and well equipped. We were all able to relax and enjoy the area.

We visited a number of the museums, Juno Beach, the Canadian beach landing site, Ypres, Pegasus Beach and a number of Canadian war cemeteries. We had a one day excursion booked through Lonely Planet of the Canadian WW2 Battlefelds Tour. We were extremely moved to be part of this anniversary. One of our members even got interviewed for Global news (Canada) and was part of a special that the television network produced to commemorate D Day.

Overall, we would highly recommend this home in Honfleur and we believe that you would enjoy working with Josephine.

Wonderful house in enchanting Honfleur.

  • 5 of 5
We had the most wonderful week in Honfleur. The house was gorgeous and even better in reality than the details could convey. It was so clean, fresh and well equipped with beautiful crisp luxurious bedlinen.
The owner provided really helpful information that made navigating our way around Honfleur and finding the best and most delicious fresh food so easy.
The town of Honfluer was enchanting with lots of beautiful and well priced restaurants and shops and our children loved being able to take the short walk into town by themselves.
It is also a great base for touring Normandy. We made a day trip to Paris and visited the Bayeux Tapestry, as well as spending several days just enjoying Honfleur.

Wonderful holiday in Honfleur!!

  • 5 of 5
There were five of us for the week in Honfleur and we had a great time in this house! It's location is lovely, away from the bustle of the harbor but near enough to go for meals, shopping, or just walking and enjoying the town and the river. Sights in Normandy are relatively easy to access on the good roads.
The house is beautiful and comfortable. All of the bedrooms ( some with skylights) are spacious and pleasant with a view of the town and the Pont du Havre and Seine. The bathrooms ere very nice and clean. The kitchen is well equipped for simple to more complex meals.
We would most definitely recommend a stay here!! The owner is most helpful and kind answering our numerous questions as we prepared for our trip to Normandy!
We certainly will put it on our " keeper" list!!!!

We picked this property based on our "back and forth" emails with the owner. We could tell she was proud of her property, and was also very open and honest with her helpfulness during the rental process. We loved our stay at this property, and in the Normandy region of France. We did day trips from the house, often using the owners suggestions. We tried to eat in all of her favorite restaurants, but were only there 7 days. Each restaurant was better than the next, and all were great! The property itself was immaculate and very comfortable. There were 4 in our party, so we only used half of the bed room space. Bathrooms and showers were great. Kitchen was well equipped (but who wants to cook in France?) Internet access worked great. TV was great. Many English channels from across the English Channel. Highly recommend taking a drive around the "Calvados cider trail" to see the beautiful countryside and charming small towns and farms. The Tapestry of Bayonne was very worthwhile. The local Eugene Boudin art museum was very good. (he taught Monet to be a painter). Of course, the WWII Normandy landing beaches and museums were very moving. Great hone. Great vacation.

Ideal Location

  • 5 of 5
Close to the best Normandy has to offer. Honfluer has enough enjoyable sites to spend your entire time there, but you are close to all the WWII beaches, the Bayeaux tapestry, Mt. St. Michel, & on and on! The home is well located - an easy walk into town. 4 bedrooms on 2 levels, each with its own bath. A comfortable living room and well appointed kitchen. A perfect place to call 'home' while in Honfluer. Don't miss breakfast at the bottom of the hill/ramp - Travel's Coffee Shop. A lovely, friendly owner with croissants, pastries and cafe au lait! There is a very comprehensive information book with many good suggestions for restaurants and lots of reference books on the bookshelf! Josephine is very helpful via email - don't hesitate to ask questions before your stay. Highly recommended!

Notes:
It is an uphill walk from the center of town to the house. It is necessary to walk up a flight of stairs to the bedrooms and bathrooms. Suitability for the elderly depends on the fitness of the elder individual. My 80-year old mother has no problem at all with either. English satellite TV is included. The fireplace in living room and bedroom photos are a non-working fireplaces, only there for aesthetic purposes.
