Seclusion Waits for You.
The wife and I have been going to th Hawaiian Islands since 1994. After visiting all Islands we decided on Maui "The Valley Isle", and the location at Ma'alaea. This was the most centrally located place on the Isle that we could find and the last undeveloped area. Ma'alaea is a nice little quaint harbor village. When we want busy we can drive the 20 to 30 minutes and retunr to our "Hideaway"
The Owner purchased this condo in 1999
We chose to buy at Ma'alaea because it is easy to get to from the airport and still is very remote, which keeps it from geting to crowded. When we bought the Ma'alaea Triangle (Ma'alaea Harbor Shops) did not exist. Now it is quaint little village with novelty shops and 5 lowrise restaurantes. Some people drive right past Ma'alaea and not even know it was there, it is behind the sugar cane fields.
Another Nice feature is that we are next to Ma'alaea/Sugar Beach, which walk most mornings and if we see 20 people , that is a crowd. You can walk all the way to Kihei and back. You can wake and sit on the Lanai and watch the ocean come alive, or visit our "Tidepools" in front of our location as I do every morning.
Stayed here 2/09/2010. It was a great choice for us. It was everything Wendal said it would be and more. Very clean, well equipped and a great location. Great ocean front location, watched the whales, turtles everyday from or balcony.
You cannot go wrong with the Maui Island Hideaway. Because the "Hideaway" is so close to the water we could hear the sounds of the water literally 24/7. Our day began with a wonderful walk on the beach and back to the lanai to have our morning coffee. Many mornings we saw the whales dancing, along with a group of turtles peaking their heads out of the water. The breeze coming through the condo was wonderful and it made sleeping so comfortable. This condo is well taken care of and nicely decorated. The location of the "Hideaway" is very central to the west and south side of the Island which for us was perfect. We had a wonderful 2 weeks at the Maui Island Hideaway and we will be back.
We have stayed at the Banyons 5 times before with different owner (sold his units so had to find another). This unit was very nice-all the amenities and the water filter pitcher was very nice-saved a lot of bottled water that we would have purchased otherwise. We would definitely come back to thus unit!
We loved the Hideaway! This was a anniversary and whale watching trip for us and the location could not have been any more perfect! Wendall told us that we could see the whales from our lanai and in fact we did spend several hours each day enjoying the beautiful view, and several whale and turtle sightings! We did take a sailboat cruise out on the bay to get up close to the whales and it was the highlight of our trip. The cruises leave from the dock at the end of our block which made it so easy. The condo has everything that you need is updated, decorated very hawaiian, clean and very comfortable. We used the grill out by the pool one afternoon and it was great. The pool area is very nice, and the beach area is very private and comfortable for sunning and viewing the sea turtles up close. Most times we sat at the beach outside the condo there was maybe one other couple out there you really have it all to yourselves. The public beach is a short walk and perfect for a long stroll on the beach. The location is perfect being so close to the water, we really enjoyed out stay and would love to go back when we have the opportunity. Thank you Wendall & Sally for sharing your home with us!
We spent 3 unforgettable weeks at Maui Island Hideaway –a comfortable condo with direct access to the beach and beautiful ocean front view! The location is very quiet and at the same time very central. You can reach Kihey, Lahaina und Kahului in only 15 min by car. The owners Wendall and Sally are extremely generous and very helpful. So we felt like in paradise and therefore we will use any opportunity to come back again! Mahalo for everything. See you next time. Best regards from Zurich, G&Y
Location: We travelled all over the island, seeing every little nook and cranny. What we realized was that our home base, the "Hideaway" is ideally located on the island. You're centrally located between Kihei (our favourite town), the airport, Lahaina, et al. You're also near some of the best beaches around, including Sugar Beach, the one on which the Hideaway sits, which has one of the best views on all of the island.
One suggestion is to stop to get supplies from one of the major grocers near the airport, when you first arrive, to get a firm base of what you need: beer, snacks, meat, veggies, etc. Then you can shop at the nearby general stores for convenience or 10 minute drive to Foodland for following shopping needs.
Amenities: The "\Hideaway has everything you need to operate comfortably: dishes, utensils, bedding, beach supplies, cleaning supplies, washer/dryer, brand new oven/stove, brand new TV/sound system, etc. The balcony has the best view. The unit being on the second floor is great in that you get an elevated view but you're still quick to access parking or the pool by elevator or stairs.
Facilities: The pool area is superior in its craftsmanship and comfort. It has the only Jacuzzi in the area. You wouldn't think something like this would be necessary in a hot area but it's amazing, especially in the hot, bright sun.
One of, if not the biggest highlight about this building is its proximity to the ocean. Not only is there no road between your balcony and the ocean but you're so near to it that you can see the sea turtles floating by. Apparently this luxury of being so close to the ocean is not something you'll see anymore on Maui as they have changed their regulations so that buildings need to be built much further from the ocean.
Owners: Accommodating to the max. Wendall and Sally only want you to have the best possible experience on Maui and in the Hideaway. I can't even go to the lengths at which Wendall went to make sure our stay was excellent, suffice to say that it couldn't have been as good without having them to help us out.
Conclusion: If you can get in to the Hideaway, go with the opportunity and you will be happy you did.
I rented this condo for my God daughter as a suprise for her visit. I found this unit on VRBO and only had the photo's from the site to go by. It was everything I had hoped for and more. My God daughter was thrilled to say the least. The unit was very clean, and well appointed. The view from the lanai is wonderful, and was perfect for watching the Humpback Whales frolic in the bay. I would surely recommend this unit to all who are looking to relax in Maui. Also, the owner Wendell, is very professional in his booking, and easy to work with. Mahalo and Aloha.
Ma'alaea Harbor / Village is a 5 min walk from our 'Hideaway'. There you can find boating, snorkeling, scuba diving and sailing adventures. In Ma'alaea Village you can find the world famous Maui Ocean Center which also has a 100' acrylic tube underwater you can walk through. There are multiple restaurants and stores in the Village also. All this within walking distance. Ma'alaea is the last undeveloped area on the Island and is centrally located and not busy. You can drive to busy in 15 - 25 min, depending on where you want to go. You then can return to seclusion and not busy to relax. Ma'alaea - 180 deg from Ordinary
