Gualala was named one of the best 50 places to live in the United States. It is a perfect vacation destination to explore the beautiful Northern California coastline. Mendocino County is perfect for those looking to relax and enjoy nature in the mild temperate climate of the Banana Belt region. More sunny days than most of the Mendocino and Sonoma coastlines.
Exemplary quality and visual interest enhance the beauty of the enduring land and sea beyond.
Hand-selected artisan tile, richly colored fabrics and furnishings, and original artwork visually enhance a unique aesthetic standard. While the home is named 'Seascape' there is much to be appreciated within the walls, as well.
Privately placed on the ocean side of a coastal knoll. The artistic house design, special appointments create a spa like ambiance. One must spend time here to fully appreciate the beauty of this home, and the unique surroundings.
'The six people in our group all agree this was the nicest home we've ever stayed in. Scenery was breathtaking, decor was beautiful...relaxing comfortable. It's sad to leave but we hope to be back again. On a scale from 0 to 10(great), this is an 11.'

This weekend was so beautiful and serene, filled with lots of gorgeous memories. Thank you so much for opening the doors to this breathtaking home and sharing it with us and our friends. It was a true delight waking to these views and coming back to this beautiful home at the end of our day. We will be back.
Our 4-night stay in mid November involved 5 adults. Prior reviewers have noted the fine views, spacious dining and sitting areas, excellent master suite, etc. But this rental has some negative aspects: the second upstairs bedroom/bathroom is not en-suite, the down bedroom is rather small with a bathroom door that would not close, a shower head that leaked and a poorly-sliding screen door. This bedroom has a gas heater that was not operative during our stay (although needed). There was only one operative hair dryer in the house. Carpet and area rugs in the house are well-used and not clean. Kitchen utensils and glasses are sparse and all glasses required washing prior to use. Although of no impact to renters, the home exterior is somewhat shabby--paint is peeling and exterior shingles missing. These negatives detract from the lovely setting and views available from the house.
My wife and two other couples spent the memorial weekend at this breath taking place. The best place we have ever stayed. The view is unbelivable. The furniture is state of the art and the kitchen is fully equiped. Very easy acces from hwy 1. I can't wait for the time that we all can go back there. The only drawback that I can think of is that his place can use a better (bigger) gas grill.
More incredible than the pictures. This place is absolutely breathtaking and was the perfect place to relax and truly breath. Very close walk to a pristine beach, short drive to the town of Gualala, and right across the street from delicious food at St. Orres restaurant. I only wish we could have stayed longer but will surely return. The owner/management was extremely helpful and organized. Completely hassle free and everything we needed was at the home. You will not regret staying here.
Our family of four, with two young boys (6 and 9), drove from Vancouver, BC with stops along the Oregon coast and stayed for 7 nights in Aug 2011. I found the reviews here to be accurate and everything as expected regarding the location, layout, and amenities. Barbara was very helpful and she made sure that our experience was a smooth one.
We loved the home and setting and will return again. I would recommend it where you're looking to relax and getaway. My one critique: the BBQ has seen better days and should be refreshed or replaced (although it didn't stop us from using it every day!).
The views from the main living spaces and large deck are perhaps better than the pictures. There has been so much care in the selection of furnishings, appliances, art, and tiling and how it all comes together...it makes you feel good to be there. I described it to my wife as the first IKEA free home I've been in for years! The third bedroom has a full bathroom, small refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and TV as well as a separate shaded patio and sitting area which would be handy if you were travelling with another couple or in-laws. There is a full wash/dryer combo and nice garage.
The home is situated on a quiet side road with a great and unobstructed view overlooking Cooks beach. Cooks is an easy and pleasant 5 minute stroll. The path down has been improved by the local preservation society and has steps cut out and a landing area. Nearby Gualala is a small town but has several restaurants, a good espresso place, two markets, a sports/recreation store, pharmacy and two gas stations. Everything you need. Other nearby beaches include Anchor Bay (for the best skim boarding) and Schooner Cove which is also very nice (also an easy stroll from the road).
Other: Elk sometimes wander through the backyard, the bird feeder attracts beautiful birds. San Fran is 2.45 hours drive and you could include this in your plans. PCH1 offers spectacular views driving either direction. On this part of the coast there is often fog that rolls in and out depending on conditions. It can set down on the beach during the day and move back or dissipate quickly or slowly, you just never know. Only 500 feet back it could be blue skies and sun. All weather providers were inaccurate when it came to Gualala. I think they measure from the airport which is set back and less susceptible to the mist. This shouldn't dissuade you, just something to be aware of.
This was as beautiful in person as it was online. Our only problem was that it was sold and escrow had closed and had new owners that were in Europe. I don't know if it was because it was between owners but there was no TV/Satelite reception, and although the view was gorgeous I would have liked to have seen the news at least. Also there were a few other troubles, the broiler in the kitchen did not work, I had to figure out the trouble with the garbage disposal, I couldn't find the garage opener from the instructions and had to talk with the realator to find out where the garage opener was. The internet also didn't work again I don't know if it was because it was between owners. The house overall was beautiful and we enjoyed ourselves greatly, but I do wish everything worked without a hitch. I'd rent this house again if it is still available. Also some extra towels would have been nice.
We spent a week at this wonderful property just before Thanksgiving 2009. Beautiful home, excellent views of the ocean from every room. Perfectly appointed and exactly as described. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
Gualala was named one of the best 50 places to live in the US. It is a perfect vacation destination to explore the beautiful Northern California coastline. Mendocino County is a great escape from the hectic pace of the big city. There is very little traffic and a breath-taking mix of blue ocean and green mountainsides. One of the highlights of Mendocino County is its quaint boutique wineries. What sets us apart from other vacation homes is our fantastic, private location, overlooking Cooks Beach and the Southern and Northern coastlines. There are unobstructed ocean views from 15 windows. Constantly changing scenery from morning sunrise to evening sunset. The kitchen is ideally located on the southern side of the home with a large 460 sq/ft deck to give plenty of outdoor dining space. We also have three more decks to enjoy the wonderful views. Gualala features a post office, supermarkets, organic foods, farmers markets, restaurants, art galleries, gas stations, Gualala Art Center
