Woolly Bugger

We loved the Woolly Bugger lodge. Two families of eight plus baby shared the lodge for one week. Very clean and well maintained. One teenager slept on the comfortable bench seat out in the enclosed porch, where there happens to be a TV/DVD. Everything in the lodge works - from the washing machine, to the coffee maker, to the shower and toilet! We really appreciated having the key to the shed and access to the river tubes. The Betsie River treated us very well: caught king salmon on the fly rods, tubed, swam, and watched it flow. Will need to hike down a moderately steep hill to get to rustic dock right on the river at the lodge. Can hike 15 minutes up- stream and float down to dock in about 25 minutes in chilly, clear water. This is a great place for people who prefer to make their own meals as opposed to eat every meal in a restaurant, who want to explore Northern Michigan, who like the fact that you can make noise, laugh, and leave your towels, tubes, and fishing rods out on the lawn without having anyone come by to tell you to be quiet and pick-up. The lodge is a great launching place to all Northern Michigan has to offer - Lake Michigan beaches, apple & cherry orchards, drive-in cinema, and picturesque towns. Be sure to eat cherry pie at the Cherry Hut, buy notepaper at Gwen Frostic's in Benzonia, and bike from Buelah to Frankfurt and back.
