Charming, darling, three-bedroom, two-bath, Spanish casita house and adjacent Studio guest house and gated yard, two separate walls and yards, next door,all in the heart of the village of La Jolla. The house can sleep 6 to 10 and the cottage 2 to 4/5 for a total of 15max. Rent seperate or together. This is a community with perfect year-round weather averaging 70 to 75 degrees.
On our famous Bonair Street village home (bonair means clean air) walk along 1500 feet down our street to the main entrance to the world-famous 'wind-n-sea' beach. 11 houses to spectacular shops, local spa and gym, local restaurants and dining, and walking and bicycling certified scenic trails. Within several houses is a community park, Olympic-size swimming pool for public use at coogan website at cfaquatics. Five houses east join the tropical scenic walking trails that go all the way through La Jolla, in addition to bicycling and pet walking. If you head north from our house you can walk .5 mile in several minutes, or drive in just a minute to the main downtown cove village area for all the hustle and bustle of art galleries, easy and high end restaurants, entertaining art galleries, comedy store and sighseeing at stunning ocean caves at the Huge ocean park and view of the cove and the seals. Our place is located in the village on a more serene area than downtown, but we are in the village, closest to the wind n sea beach for beach and surf lovers. It is good for families and children, yet accesible toall major ammenities in minutes walks all directions, the beauty of being in village living.

La Jolla was where we both wanted to live our whole lives. I had post cards in my office in
colorado when I was 22, promising that one day I would live there. When first married we saved
up enough money to buy a home by our most loved beach, Wind N Sea also voted top ten beaches in
the world and walk to it by foot along with the village atmosphere of dining, shops, parks, scenic trails and perfect weather. We now can return again and again to our property while still
enjoying our other beach home, hawaii or yosemite. Our dream come true to have beach, moutains and tropical areas. We hope to retire in the village, wind n sea beach home and in the meantime

Everthing you can can want on vacation and never need a car. Walk to Top Ten beaches in the world wind n Sea, as well as shops
and restaurants, spa and gym 11 houses away, but be in a quite tropical neighborhood with a yard
where they are hard to come by. Walk 3 houses to La Jolla scenic trail and park, the beach 1500 feet from our door is enjoyable walkable. Or head north 10 minutes walk to the downtown entertainment of fine restaurants, art galleries and the world famous cove. The olympic community is only 5 houses away and our year round temperature average is 66 to 72 degrees, warming up in summer to the mid 70s. maybe peaking at low 80's. We rent when Liza and Mike have down time to get to the beach. We are friends of the family. We have so much fun in this home and the feeling is better than most houses on this block. It is light bright and airy and has many windows and great patio. Homes on this block have been here and in the beach barber tract since 1925 onward. This home is one of the artistic beach type homes everyone says has its original charm and the owners have kept it that way. You are unable to tear out concrete patios that are painted or mosaic from the past and refurbished to put in new plain concrete. It has its charm and its nuances but is not in poor condition. We stay every early december before holiday rates and our kids go to the beach and play games in the yard. The patio gets sun all day and is a pleasure and the house is not large but is a family home of generations. Yes they could tear it down for 2 million dollar remodel , but why? some homes are meant to be the original history flavored and re done in that vein. I would say it is in fair to good shape the furnishings make it very beachy and warm. I stay here with my grandma and she is very picky and loves the feel of old homes. Everyones taste is different, but as a friend, and being a realtor, I know that not everyone can be pleased but to cast this home as a poor condition is just some sort of retaliation, not the truth. The owners are pleasant and give you privacy unless you have questions. The yard is green and the kitchen is very well stocked and pretty granite and stone. The owner is an artist and did sea shells in the shower and river beach rock in the back splash. They put some thought into saving this including paying $6000 per bedroom floor to re do the foundation, I know because my workers did it. The owners have put a lot of money into keeping the original plan and feeling and should be appreciated not slandered. The home is worth 1.5 million and was 1.8 before 2008 crash, so its a good home and the LOCATION as everyone FANTASTIC to walk to all. No one said the house was ugly before this post. I am on the list to buy this home if they ever sell it and I would not tear it down but keep it in the same flavor of historic refurbished lovingly one area at a time as they have and can with the input of vacation income, they still run short but put up their own paychecks to fix what they can and it is a very pleasant happy home.
My kids and husband love it. and So do, I, I give it a 4 star.
Pros: The location was great, backyard was nice.
Cons: The house itself. The 2nd bathtub/shower in a free standing tub. There were two shower curtains on two sides to keep the shower water in. But gaps on two ends. Water spills out on the floor it gets flooded, no matter how hard we tried to keep it from going outside. We had to wipe off the floor each time. The owner said, that's what we have to do ! Never seen poor such shower arrangement.
The floors were not clean at check in. We had to mop the floors ourselves.
The room ACs are ineffective and loud. It was warm in the room. It was hard to sleep. But I understand many houses don't have AC in La Jolla and we are used to temperature controlled rooms.
Neighbor talked to each of us at separate times when we went out and told us about the ongoing fight between the owner and neighbor about the the vacation rental business and brought in petty annoyance in our vacation.
There were ants and bugs in the house. We sprayed the insect killer sprays provided in the house often.
I would not go back to this house.
My Family stayed here Aug and many summers: this property and many properties in the Beach Barber Tract. My brother and sister have provided real estate for years beginning in the 1970s. My Mom had a house on Westbourne so we grew up here and now all the streets.
We tried properties on Nautilus. Gravilla, Westbourne again, and Sea Lane. None had as easy access to each and every thing to do and the home had the most character, charm and largest yard and patio, as well as an optional guest house that none of the others had.
We were asked to review our stay as the owners needed to get more than one point of view so we took time to look at the reviews. The pattern we saw was the complaints really had nothing to do with how wonderful this place and is and how truly cool the house is compared to other streets, layouts for yards and outdoor patio and the truth of the historic flavor and refurbished quality of the house. The La Jolla light once owned this before the previous owners and another gentlemen in the many years who was a publisher at the paper. He converted the R2 garage back then in 1956 permitted to rent to guests coming in for the La Jolla playhouse. Many owners close by were asked to make their granny flats available for guests and convert them and did so simply with the city , in times before know huge multiple units are erected, this home has the original simply historic look and quality of low profile but close to and walk to beach and all with quiet still available although it is the village and will have foot and car traffic due to everything being in walking distance, no car needed. The owners informed me the cottage had a fire in Y2K and was being questioned as a guest house but it is truly a remodeled and permits pulled in 2000 with the property tax and city. I was asked by the owners as a realtor and guest here five times to assure people that the extra unit can be at the very least an extra bedroom but more since it has a kitchen, courtyard, bathroom with tub and shower, TV, internet access, where the parents or grandparents can get away from the sometimes family reunions that folks rent on vacation and no peace for everyone in one house. With the house it can be a fourth bedroom or a guest spot.
The owners are in the process of bringing it to another level of quality with the city by adding a zen garden that is being expanded on now and more privacy then even before with plants and a new adobe wall slated for increased privacy.
We were here to attend a 14U baseball tournament. First, check in is at 3 and we were still sitting in the backyard at 4:30pm waiting for the cleaners to finish. House could use some bug spray. We found several centipedes in 2 of the rooms. Spiderwebs throughout. Ants all over - even where no food was around. Must have some type of rodent issue in the house as there were mouse traps on the side of the refrigerator although we never saw one. The first night we were here the neighbor called the police because our dog chased their cat from our yard to theirs and the kids ran to get the dog. Not sure why he couldn't have just walked out and had a conversation with us. Still don't even understand what the issue was. He did mention previous issues with the owner of this house. Also, it should be disclosed that there is no playing allowed in the street. The kids were out front and were told to stop. One night it was after 8pm so I could understand that. But the other nights it was not. We were told there is a park close by. So that is another option. The back yard and patio was nice to sit and relax until we noticed the rats running from the roof tops across the power lines RIGHT above us (yes, they were definitely rats). Note that if you plan to use the gas grill you will need to buy propane as the tank was empty. And if you plan to run the dishwasher make sure you grab some dish soap. This house is not live in ready.
So if none of the above is an issue for you then this is a great place to stay. Great location. I don't recommend it for families with active kids. The neighborhood is quiet and doesn't tolerate outdoor activity.
This vacation home was a wonderful treat! The home has such a beautiful southwestern, as well as a tropical vacation feel to it. The house and grounds were clean and uncluttered, with roomy bedrooms, lots of windows to let the California sunshine in and a kitchen which was stocked with everything we needed to cook a few meals at home, as well as abundant linens and towels, and other amenities.
We particularly enjoyed the back patio, deck and roomy backyard, especially with all the gorgeous plants and trees, not to mention grill, large patio table, and comfy lounging furniture. We saw many hummingbirds flying about, also apparently enjoying the landscape.
The beach and many shops and restaurants were less than a 10 minute walk away, with other shops and restaurants in downtown La Jolla just a little beyond that. We rarely had to travel by car; everything we needed was a much enjoyed brief walk down the street. One evening, we watched the sunset at the ocean horizon from the front entrance of the home. That was beautiful!

My family rented this home for a family reunion and we all loved it! The location is great, just a couple of blocks from the beach that has breath taking views. The home and cottage had everything we needed, we cooked there most of the meals. The weber grill was very popular! We spent hours out on the patio talking and playing with the kids. We made memories in this house and would recommend it for any family event!
This was the perfect place for us to spend our daughters spring break.We loved the fenced backyard for our dogs. The outdoor patio with the fireplace and couch was lovely. It was so quiet and peaceful sitting outside. We had perfect weather while we were there. The house had everything we needed. I cooked dinner most nights because we didn't want to leave our dogs alone so I can't speak about many of the local restaurants but the house was close to many and also close to downtown La Jolla. We did do take out one night from the Thai restaurant and it was very good.The location was great because we could get everywhere we wanted to go in a short car ride. I ran and walked our dogs everyday and there were plenty of nice areas to do that without having to be on busy roads. It was also a short walk down to Wind n Sea beach. The house was clean which is always a concern for me. It also had a long driveway for parking which was nice. I would absolutely rent this house again.
