Overview

City of London Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Apartment, 1 Bedroom + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-5)

Enjoy your holidays at this modern and comfortable flat featured in the New York Times Travel section!

Inside the flat: This flat is equipped with a microwave, oven and hob/stove, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, TV/VCR, wireless DSL, and power shower. The flat rental includes all linens, towels, and cutlery. Also included are free phone calls from the flat to the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and most of Europe, so you can call your family and friends at home, or make additional travel plans for free from the flat.

The location: The flat is conveniently located just across the street from the Tower of London and next to the beautiful and historic Trinity Square Gardens. Just a minute's walk from the Tower Hill tube stop, and approximately three minutes from the Tower Gateway DLR, you'll find this flat the ideal London base from which to explore London!

Local Attractions: Many points of historic interest, including the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, the Roman Wall(s). Also located in 'The City' or financial district, so the area is considered very safe, even for walking around late at night. Due to the flat's proximity to the tube station (and being within Zone One and on the Circle and District Lines), you can hop on and quickly be near any major attraction in central London: Buckingham Palace, Churchill's War Rooms, Whitehall, Parliament, Big Ben, Kensington Palace.

Just across the street, in addition to the Tower of London, is All Hallows by the Tower, a 1,500 year old church that has import for American as well as British history – William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania, was baptized in the church as an infant, and John Quincy Adams, America’s 6th President and son of John Adams, America’s 2nd President, was married there in 1797. Tours of the church, offered free of charge, reveal among other things a 2,000 year old Roman road, part of the ancient Roman city of 'Londinium', which ran underneath the present church site.

There are many pubs and restaurants within a one or two minute walk. The Hung, Drawn and Quartered Pub is just across Great Tower Street next to All Hallows (church). If that one doesn't appeal, there are three other British pubs, a French restaurant (Chez Gerard), a Spanish restaurant, an Asian noodle place and a pizza/pasta restaurant all within a lazy 1-2 minute walk. If you're willing to walk a bit further, you will find a seemingly endless supply of restaurants.

One not to miss is Dickens Inn (a former hanging ground for pirates) at St Katherine's Docks, London's best-kept secret! The docks also host a small marina and many quaint cafes, shops and restaurants of all price ranges.

If you choose to walk east about 10-15 minutes, you'll find yourself in London's East End, and perhaps at Brick Lane which is famous for its excellent Indian food! I highly recommend the Jack the Ripper Walking Tour of the East End, held at night and starting from the Tower Hill tube, just about a minute (if that) from the flat.

Also nearby (meaning under 15 minute walk) is St Paul's Cathedral, Tower Bridge, The City (financial district), St Katherine's Dock, Shad Thames (riverwalk area with more restaurants and pubs), Sir Francis Drake's ship the Golden Hinde, the HMS Belfast, the London Bridge, Southward Cathedral (at the south end of London Bridge), Millenium Bridge, the Globe Theatre, Tate Modern Museum, etc.

Shakespeare's Globe Theatre is a pleasant walk across either Millenium Bridge or London Bridge near Vinopolis, a wine museum with a lovely restaurant with wine tasting. (The theatre and restaurant are ideal for a unique dinner and show experience as part of a memorable and romantic evening.)

Sleeping Arrangements: This flat is perfect for a single, couple, or small family. There is a UK Double bed upstairs (approximately the same as a US Queen) (see photo). There is also a very large and comfy sofa which is six foot two inches between the armrests and which makes up nicely into a twin bed if desired. In addition there is a US Queen sized Aero-Bed mattress available for guests' use. (However, I need to say that the 5 person maximum usually means 2 parents and up to 3 small children [and even then its tight] - the flat is just too small to be used by 5 adults.)

Generally speaking, I have a 4 night minimum - it simply isn't economical for me to do short stays. The only exception is if I happen to have 2-3 days that are left available between two longer stays - in that case I might consider renting for 2-3 nights. Check my availability calendar to see what the availability is.

About Paul

I purchased this property after visiting the roof and seeing the 'Oh, wow!' view of the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and the River Thames. After purchasing the flat, it was my home for several years. Hopefully you will enjoy the location as much as I have!

Paul purchased this apartment in 2003

Why Paul chose City of London

Location, location, location: Across the street from the Tower of London and Tower Bridge, 5 minute walk west of a beautiful marina, 5 minute walk east of London Bridge, 100 yards from an Underground Station (Tower Bridge station), and in the middle of everything and next to the absolutely beautiful grounds of Trinity Square Gardens, you couldn't find a better location from which to explore London.

What makes this apartment unique

Specific to the location is the fact that you are in walking distance to much and the rest is easily and quickly accessible via the London Underground (Tube) as the Tower Hill tube station is located 100 yards from the flat.

Within the flat there is free wifi, and free telephone calls to the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and most of Europe.

We had a fantastic week-long holiday at Paul's flat. The location is ideal, so close to the Tower and the Tower Hill tube stop. There were only 2 of us so there was plenty of room. Many previous guests have left guidebooks and maps which help in your planning. Make sure you get an "Oyster" card for the tube and bus fares.

We plan to go back and stay there again!

Comfortable flat, convenient location, great host!

  • 5 of 5

I rented this flat when I went on a business trip last May and had a surprisingly pleasant stay. I thought it was just a convenient place to stay at , but I was surprised with how warm and comfortable the flat was. Despite its convenient location, close to the commercial area, it somehow maintained its charm and quietness, away from the craziness of urban London. Nice place to stay when in London. Comfortable flat, convenient location, great host!

Location, Location, Location!

My husband and I had the privilege of staying at this flat last November and loved it. This was our first trip to London and we found, from the beginning of our trip to the end, that the detailed information given about travel and the area in general as well as the fabulous location of Trinity Square was perfect for our first trip over the pond!

The flat is cozy, clean and quiet. Even though the area is bustling during the day, at night it was amazingly still and we slept great. Having a full kitchen was a great asset and we were able to start and end our busy days by relaxing as if we were in our own home. There are also plenty of dining options within walking distance.

I loved being right next to the historic Tower of London and the Tower Bridge. It should be noted that you cannot see the view of the Thames and bridge from the flat window, as the flat faces the historic 10 Trinity Square (former Port Authority) on the opposite side.

There was a plethora of things to see and visit right outside the door. The owner of the flat, Paul, gives fabulous historical information and walking tours for sights right outside the front door as well as other major historical locations to visit. We found ourselves relying on his expertise quite a bit as we planned our sight seeing in the city. It was like having our own personal travel guide.

In all, I can’t recommend this place highly enough! We will definitely stay here again our next trip to London.

Perfect Location:Perfect Stay

  • 5 of 5

This cozy 1 bedroom is so centrally located; you would want to stay here purely for its accessibility. The flat is perfect for a single person or a couple; however, will accommodate up to five. As advertised, the flat is located just across from the Tower of London. It actually couldn’t be any closer! Nearby are several markets for groceries and sundries, and the hop-on/hop-off tour buses are located just across the street, as well as the riverboat tours, and underground too. From the Trinity Square location you can get anywhere in the city in minutes, and will be spoiled for choice in terms of transport. The descriptions and photos provided by the owner are accurate. It's a lovely flat in a great, and in a very safe location.

Far more reasonably priced and comfortable than a hotel, you won’t be “nickeled and dimed” for the little things. Other than its location, this studio offers an efficient kitchen, washing machine, all the appliances and cookery that you will need. Included is wi-fi, DVD, cable (not that you’ll be watching television excessively), and free telephone service to the US and Canada!

Prior to our arrival, dealing with the owner (Paul) was a pure delight. He is very attentive to your needs, responds quickly to queries, and has a plethora of historical knowledge about the city, providing you with a many recommendations for tours, attractions, we well as neighborhood restaurants and markets.

All in all, I'd definitely stay here again, and will recommend this flat to friends and colleagues without hesitation. I can’t wait for my next trip!

Great location, great flat for the price!

  • 4 of 5

We loved the location of the flat. Great walking distance to tower hill, tower bridge, and the tube. The flat was comfortable for the two of us. Bed was comfortable, great to have laundry facilities since we travel light. Restaurants close by were okay, but great to jump on the tube to better restaurant locations. If you needed a quick bite it sufficed, short distance to the store which was nice except Sundays everything is closed early. For the city pretty quiet except for some nights they were working construction outside the building next to us which kept us up only a couple of times. We slept well and enjoyed feeling liked we lived their. Would have been nice to have a few extra toiletries since we were staying two weeks and had to provide the last five days of our stay. Overall a great experience and loved london. Would definitely stay here again! Thank you Paul.
