Very close to Franciscan Skemp and Gundersen Lutheran. Scenic Vernon & Trempealeau Counties (known as Tuscany of Midwest) feature forests, hills, trails and backroads 30 minutes away. This unglaciated part of Wisconsin surpasses better known destinations.

This lovely house is in prime residential area of historic rivertown rated as one of best undiscovered cities in US. The 1886 home was converted to two flats at the turn of the century so the upper, rental portion has the features and ambiance of a separate home. A few years ago, I furnished the upper apartment for personal use and by request, the apartment became established as an excellent furnished rental--one of a kind in the La Crosse area. A stay here offers rural/nature experiences without having to run 'to town'--and fine restaurants, shopping, and comforts after spending the day in the country.
Reading or movies by the fireplace; spring through fall relaxing on the sunporch looking out on trees and historic homes; walking to historic Riverfront and La Crosse restaurants; entertaining for friends in the spacious rooms. Guests and friends love browsing through books---and watching new & old movies in the DVD/video library. You have complete privacy, but help is available if requested.
I was enjoyed my stay in this very spacious apartment that includes the entire second floor of the house. Everything I needed was there. I wanted to significant spend time writing and found the sunporch to be a perfect spot. (I just needed to move a higher table in on which to put my laptop.) The porch has a ceiling fan and was very pleasant to sit in for hours with temperatures in the low 80s. Plenty of tall trees provide shade. The neighborhood is very quiet and it is a very convenient location to shopping, running, restaurants, the Mississippi River, and more.
My girlfriends and I have been checking regularly to see when you'll have openings again. I can see why it gets rented for months at a time, but now it's OUR turn and we'll be able to plan another girl's weekend. We LOVE your house and everything about it-we walk downtown-pick up lots of fun food to cook (or NOT) in the cute kitchen and head for the front porch! It's like a private heaven out there. A great place for us to relax and get away from it all. Wait until I tell everyone!
I have stayed at this property several times and am greatly disappointed when it isn't available. From a girls' weekend to family gatherings, it is the perfect VRBO. In the summer, we love the porch; in the winter, a cozy fire. The fully equipped kitchen has seen many complete meals as well as a quick pizza. Amy's decorating is over the top with antiques, books and her personal touches. Owner very helpful with local information and wonderful dining recommendations.
Pros of apartment: main living areas are very spacious and wonderful and suitable to entertain a large number of people. Built in the 1800’s, it had a bed & breakfast/”home” feel to it, was clean and very nicely decorated. The antiques, décor and location were all wonderful. The master bedroom and 2nd bedroom were excellent and very comfortable. Amy was very helpful to answer questions prior to our stay and made herself available while we were there for questions as well. The location was very convenient to the downtown area and to the activities we had planned during our stay. The apartment was also very well stocked with towels, toiletries, plates, glasses, kitchen ware, etc.
Cons: I would not stay there with 7 people in July again. We anticipated the only challenge to be the 1 bathroom used between 7 people, but did not anticipate the inadequacy of the 3rd "bedroom”.
The 3rd bedroom has a pull out couch which is advertised as a queen “convertible” bed. The pull out is not suitable for sleep (very uncomfortable) and the room the pull out couch is in was not air conditioned (we stayed there when it was 95 degrees out). So, unfortunately 2 out of the 7 guests were not very pleased with their stay. Now that I read the description again, I see the a/c description was correctly advertised, but I guess I did not imagine how hot it would be in that 2nd floor bedroom. 2 of the 7 guests left early and only stayed 2 out of the 3 nights because of the lack of a/c and uncomfortable pull out couch. They would have left earlier, but we were too busy with wedding/family activities to have to worry about finding additional lodging during the middle of our vacation (we flew in from MN, Florida and Puerto Rico to vacation).
I would put a maximum of 4-5 people in this apartment if I stayed there again in the summer (2 per each air conditioned bedroom and 1 person to stay on the daybed in the living room). I would not use the 3rd bedroom for guests to sleep in unless it had an a/c unit and a suitable bed installed. Also, do not expect the cook in the kitchen in the middle of summer (no kitchen a/c).
Excellent access to superb area hiking/biking trails, beautiful Western Wisconsin hill country, daytrips on Historic River Road Scenic Byway

Owner will work with guests if cancellation is necessary due to emergency. Owner also reserves right to cancel in event of emergency. No cancellations by owner have been necessary in more than 7 years of successful rentals to satisfied guests.
For 2 guests/1 bed: $165/night F, Sat, Holidays. $135/night M-Th. Minimum rent of $380. Add $25/person/night for more than 2 guests. Discounts may be given for stays of more than 4 nights. 50% deposit to reserve (by check) with balance by cash or check at time of stay. $30 pet fee.
Payment is usually accepted in the quoted currency (USD) unless the currency and the amount is specifically agreed in advance with the owner / advertiser.
